Why wait. Come begin your Journey with us where members experience “More than just Golf...”

With the end of summer approaching and the start of school upon us, we would like to send out a friendly reminder to our membership. We have had a few mix up’s with emailed statements recently. If you are not seeing your statement in your inbox, please be sure to check your spam folder for your RCC monthly statements. All statements are sent via the email address: [email protected]. If you are still unable to find your state-ment, contact the Accounting Department as soon as possible. We also ask our members to continue to be diligent and mindful about reviewing and signing your receipts in the restaurant after dining and/or ordering food/beverages to go. This will help mitigate billing issues and reassure that your statements are accurate. Happy School Year! Sincerely,

Craig Johnson & Jamee Laddusaw RCC Accounting Department

Dear Members, As long as summer took to get here, it is now slowly slipping away into fall. I am hopeful that the keyword in that sentence is “slowly.” September is usually one of the best months for golf in Montana. The course is generally not as busy, the conditions are the best of the season, and later in the month when the leaves start to come down, the course can play a little easier. Our Golf Course Superintendent, Kurt Klonsinski, along with his team, will begin prepping the course for winter in October, so make sure you get out there a few times this month. The swimming pool and snack shack will officially close on September 3, the day after labor day. We have decided to keep the pool available for use until September 15. During the two week stretch from September 3-15, the pool will basically be self-service. There will be no life-guards on duty, no towel service, or food and beverage service, but we will have the covers off every day from 11:00 am – 7:00 pm and we will continue to heat the pool. Although not quite the same experience as it is during the heart of the summer, this is something I did at my last club, and it was well-received by the membership, especially on those hot days that still happen in September. After months of investigation, looking at plans, having multiple service professionals opine, and tons of trial and error; I think we have a pretty good idea of how to operate this pool and all the equipment that runs it. This is a list of some of the items that were addressed at the pool this summer:

Replaced the main pool heater manifold Replaced the baby pool filter Fixed the main pool auto-fill system Mitigated the leak in the main pool Installed a chemical auto-feed system in the baby pool

This offseason we will be installing a new filter and pump for the main pool as well as making some upgrades to the locker room facilities at the pool. We have an excellent plan for winterization and now that we know how the system works, I am confident that we are going to have an even better pool season next year. Football is back in September, and once again Riverside will be hosting tailgate parties (proper permitting is in place) at the Bobcats games. During the month of September, the dates are Saturday, September 7, tailgate at 3:00 pm, kickoff at 6:00 pm; and Saturday, September 28, tailgate at 10:00 am, kickoff at 1:00 pm. If you are attending one or both of these games, please stop by and see us. Another special event we are going to do through the fall and winter is International Food Buffets. The first one of the season will take place on Sunday, September 29 and will feature the flavors of Southeast Asia. Keep an eye out for more details related to the specific menu. These have been very popular in the past, so make your reservations early. It happens that this month’s event is very close to the end of the quarter, so this will be an excellent way to spend up to your minimum if necessary. As we near the end of the official golf season at Riverside there tend to be more times when the course is unavailable for member play. There are more private golf events, and when we get into October more maintenance to be done to get the golf course ready for winter. As we get into 2020 planning, we will certainly keep in mind how these events affect our membership and do the best we can to balance those needs with the financial benefits they provide. I know these can be an inconvenience for all of you, but I do want to remind everyone again that we do have some tremendous reciprocal agreements in state and out of state. This could be an excellent opportunity to play a great golf course that you maybe haven’t played before or one that you would like to try again. Additionally, we are going to be offering all of you access to ClubCorp’s portfolio of clubs later this month. I know that many of you travel around the country for both business and pleasure and this partnership will give you even more access to premier facilities whether you are going south for the winter or to Las Vegas for the weekend. We will be hosting a party to introduce these benefits on Tuesday, Sep-tember 17. I encourage everyone to come to check it out, especially those who are going to be leaving for the winter. This is an ex-cellent opportunity to get the most out of your membership all year-round. I know we are going to continue to have some great weather in the near future and I hope to see you all at the club, or a tailgate this month. Sincerely,

Doug Hagen Director of Club Operations

We’re now enjoying our second season, with 40 members on our roster and an average of 10 people per hike. The guidelines for the group, based on the preferences of the current members, are as follows: DAY OF THE WEEK Wednesdays STARTING TIME 9:00am early in the season, changing to 8:30am as summer progresses and temperatures rise. We might occasionally meet earlier to carpool to more distant locations. FREQUENCY Generally every 2 weeks, continuing through early October and weather permitting. DURATION 2 to 3 hours in length, not including driving time to the trailheads. DIFFICULTY Easy hikes to start the season, progressing to mostly moderate hikes. LOCATION Local hikes to start, then some more distant hikes. As a general rule, we’ll keep the drives within 1 hour 15 minutes each way, which would allow us to hike the Bozeman area, Hyalite Canyon, Big Sky, and the northern parts of Gallatin Canyon and Paradise Valley. MEMBERSHIP All RCC members and their guests are welcome, as are children of members, as long as they are able to keep up with the rest of the group. COMPLETED HIKES June 5th – Story Hills Trail June 19th – Triple Tree July 3rd – Grassy Mountain – cancelled due to severe thunderstorms July 17th – Grassy Mountain July 31st – Blackmore Lake August 7th—Big Sky Beehive Basin August 21st—Hyalite Lake Trail to Grotto and Arch Falls NEXT UP September 4th - Bozeman Creek Trail (aka Sourdough Trail) Difficulty – Easy; wide road Total distance: 10 miles. Estimated hiking time: 3 hrs 30 min. (plus 15 min. at the bridge, the “turnaround spot”) Note: Last year, half the group turned back early, hiking 6 miles total in about 2 hrs 15 min. We’ll probably have a “short group” and a “long group” again this year.) Elevation gain: 800’ for the “long group,” probably half that for the “short group” Meeting time: 8:30 For meeting location and to sign up, contact Jane (see below) FUTURE HIKES Sep. 18th - Pioneer Falls (in the Spanish Peaks) - longer-than-usual outing, due to driving time Oct. 2nd - Weather permitting, all day outing to Livingston (Suce Creek Trail) We hope you’ll want to share in the fun this year, as we experience the beauty of our mountains from the trails. We welcome new members to the group at any time. Email Jane to sign up and be put on the email list to receive information about upcoming hikes. To the Membership,

The busy season is quickly nearing its end at Riverside. Although, there is a lot of great golf left and I encourage you to keep the clubs out throughout the fall and take advantage of some of the best golfing days of the year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the membership for being so welcoming to my family and to me. It was a hectic transition making the move, but we have really enjoyed our time here so far.

A special thanks to everyone who played in the Club Championship this year and con-gratulations to the flight winners. Special recognition to this year’s club champions and winners of the coveted parking spots; Doug Kimball and Shelley Lehrkind.

Many of you have built up credit over the season. We have a full Golf Shop! We have some Bobcat apparel for the football season, fall merchandise coming in, and most of the demo clubs and shoes will be on sale. Stop in and do some shopping and take advantage of the sales and new merchandise.

As we move toward the off-season and start to look at planning for next season, we will look at some of the programming, events and other issues that have come to our attention. With most everything already in place by the time I started, this was a bit of an observa-tion and learning year. I’m excited about the future of Riverside and hope to add to this already great country club!

Thank you again and hope to see you soon. Have a great fall!

Yours in golf,

Ryan Troxel, PGA

Head Golf Professional

As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, the first tee time will be moved back in the coming weeks to accommodate for daily maintenance tasks. Please watch for email updates or check with the Golf Shop for more information. Frost delays will become more frequent as well, so I appreciate your understanding as we try to prepare and protect your golf course.

In addition to our daily maintenance responsibilities, the staff will be busy over the next three months preparing the golf course for the long, cold winter and working to improve your golf course through capital improvement projects.

After Labor Day, work will begin on hole number 8 with renovations to the teeing area and the bunkers surrounding the green. This project is quite an undertaking, but I am confident the visual appeal and play characteristics of the hole will be greatly enhanced through our efforts. I ask for your patience and understanding of the ground disruption, equipment noise, and employee activity as you play this hole in the coming months. I am anticipating completion of this project next spring.

September, October, and November are critical months in preparing the golf course for the cold and snow. Throughout September, I am hoping we will be able to core aerify and/or solid, deep tine the tees. Aerification of the greens and slice aeration of the rough and fairways will begin Monday, September 30. Nine holes of golf will be available at all times during the greens and fairways aeration times. Slice aeration of the rough areas will take place during the months of September and October.

Shortly after aerification is completed, the water in the irrigation system will be blown out. This is a two to three-day process. Some blow-out disruption/surprises may occur as you play the golf course on those days. If a head pops up near you, it’s not intentional, it’s just part of the process.

During the remaining two and a half weeks of October, the winter fungicide applications will begin on the greens, tees, fairways, and some rough areas. Greens will receive split applications two weeks apart. In between, the almost 30 acres of tees and fair-ways will be sprayed. Following these applications, the grass will no longer be mowed to preserve the efficacy of the fungicides.

When the course closes on November 1, sand applications will be made to the greens, collars, approaches, and teeing areas. A solid, deep tine aerification will be performed on the greens and collars.

Again, I ask for your patience and understanding as we work to maintain and improve your beautiful golf course. As always, I appreciate your support and encouragement.

Sincerely,

Kurt Klonsinski

Certified Golf Course Superintendent
