This course is designed for contractors or contract employees who perform work on refinery properties.
Topics include: General Industrial Safety, Hearing Conservation, Elevated Work, Electrical Safety, Hazard Communication, Hand Safety and the Worker’s Role in Safety.
After successfully completing the course and test, participants receive a photo identification badge that is required to verify course completion. Certification is valid for one year, after which the Basic Plus Orientation Refresher course must be taken. Participants will need to bring a government issued form of ID

OSHA 7405: Fall Hazard Awareness for the Construction IndustryDate: May 10
Time: 8:00 a.m.
FREE
Free Class as part of the National Safety Stand-Down for
Preventing Falls in Construction. This course covers the
identification, evaluation, prevention and control of fall hazards
in the construction industry.
The course focuses on falls to a lower level rather than falls
to the same level resulting from slips and falls. Course topics
include identifying, analyzing, and preventing fall hazards
utilizing OSHA Fall Protection Standards. At the conclusion of
the course, students will have an awareness level of identifying
fall hazards and methods to control and abate the hazards.

Fire Protection: OSHA Compliance Series
Date: June 13

According to OSHA, workplace fires and explosions kill 200 and
injure more than 5,000 workers each year. They cost businesses

Focus Four Hazards in Construction

In 2013, the construction industry faced 770 deaths, more than
any other industry that year.*
Due to the construction industry’s high fatality rate, OSHA has
identified four hazards leading to the death of employees
in the construction industry- Falls, Electrocutions, Caught
IIn/Between, and Struck By Hazards.
This course will discuss how to identify and avoid these hazards
so you can protect your employees.

This course covers all aspects of the initial training requirements for owners and operators under 30 CFR Part 48. The objective is to train new/inexperienced miners on the safety and health hazards in the surface metal/non-metal industry.
This course satisfies the total MSHA requirement for new/inexperienced miner training. Upon completion, students will receive a completed 5000-23 training certificate. This certificate will expire one year after completion and must be renewed annually by taking the 8-hour annual training course.Students will also receive First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
MSHA 16-Hour Training for New/Inexperienced Metal/Non-Metal Surface MinersDates: May 9-10, 23-24; June 13-14, 27-28
Time: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Participant: $175 *on-site training available
This course covers general aspects of the initial training requirements for owners and operators under 30 CFR Part 48. The objective is to train new/inexperienced miners on the safety and health hazards in the surface metal/non-metal industry.This is a 16-hour class, and is designed for individuals who will receive an additional eight-hours of site-specific training from the mine operator. If required and provided by the mine operator, the site-specific training must be conducted at the mine site according to the mine operator’s training plan.

Forklift Operator Course
Date: May 24
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Discussion, videos and graphics are used to teach safe forklift
operating practices. This course complies with the OSHA
standards for formal operator classroom training.
Upon completing the course, participants will receive a wallet
card verifying completion of the classroom training. For the

This one-day course offers instructors the tools necessary to
meet OSHA’s Powered Industrial Truck requirements for formal
instruction, practical training and evaluation every three years.

HAZWOPER 8-Hour RefresherDate: May 4

workers at hazardous waste sites.

MSHA 8-Hour Annual Training for Experienced Metal/Non-Metal Surface MinersDates: May 7, 14, 21; June 4, 11, 25
Time: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Participant: $75 *on-site training available
This course covers all aspects of the annual training
requirements for owners and operators under 30 CFR Part
48. Those who successfully complete this course will return
to the job with the skills necessary to perform their work in
accordance with MSHA regulations.
Upon completion, students will receive a completed 5000-23
annual refresher training certificate. This certificate will expire
one year after completion.
MSHA 32-Hour Training for New/Inexperienced Underground MinersDates: June 13-16
Time: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Participant: $375 *on-site training available
This training course gives new miners the knowledge needed
to face the safety and health hazards of underground mining.

Students will receive their MSHA 5000-23 form uponcompletion. MSHA Site-Specific Requirements: This course provides
participants with a total of 32 hours of the 40 required training
hours. Due to the diversity of our students, task and hazard
awareness training will not be included in the Utah Safety
Council’s training session. The site-specific training must be
conducted at the mine site according to the mine operator’s
training plan. This constitutes the remaining eight-hours of
required training for underground miners.
Students will also receive First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
MSHA 8-Hour Annual Training for Experienced Underground MinersDate: June 15
Time: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Participant: $75 *on-site training availableThis training gives experienced underground miners the
knowledge they need to face the safety and health hazards
involved in underground mining.
Students will receive their MSHA 5000-23 form upon
completion. This certificate will expire one year after
completion.

The Utah Safety Council offers Emergency Care Pro-grams which include: First Aid; CPR; AED; Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens; Advanced First Aid, CPR, and AED; Basic Life Support; and, Emergency Medical Re-sponse.
These courses meet the current CPR and ECC Guide-lines, as well as OSHA standards for first aid training in the workplace.

The Take Safety Home and the Buckle Up 4 Love pro-grams are aimed at keeping you safe and well when in the home and on the go. Take Safety Home focuses on preventing the top five injuries that occur off-the-job. These include; poisoning, falls, choking and suf-focation, drowning, and fires and burns.
The Utah Safety Council offers free materials about home safety,
