2018 MagNut Program FAMILY GUIDE

The MagNut Program is more fun than ever this year! Girls and their families will have a new online platform that includes interactive games—and, girls can even create an avatar that resembles them! This avatar can later appear on your girl’s earned patch.

These features, and many others, from our new vendor, M2 Media Group, paired with our long-time partnership with our nut and candy vendor, Ashdon Farms, will help your girl be even more successful during the 2018 MagNut Program!

The MagNut Program is a council-sponsored, money-earning opportunity that enables Girl Scout troops to earn funds at the beginning of the Girl Scout year by selling magazines, nuts, and candy. It also allows family and friends to support their Girl Scout’s troop and Girl Scouting in their community. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the MagNut Program stay locally within our council.

Each Girl Scout receives a program packet from her troop leader containing everything she needs to be successful in the MagNut Program.

The theme of this year’s program is Soar Above. Go Beyond.

Working together, girls will learn essential skills like:• goal setting • decision making • money management • people skills • business ethics

This is a fun and easy way for troops to kick off the year by providing the troop with start-up funds. Girl Scout troops earn 15-20% of total sales. In addition, girls can earn cool patches and recognitions, such as personalized avatar patches. All girls can create their avatar on the M2 site and have options like uniforms, a G.I.R.L. T-shirt, and other fun accessories.

Here’s how girls can participate:Starting Oct. 1, all registered girls will be added into the M2 site. • Help your Girl Scout get started by creating an online MagNut account using

your email address. • Help your Girl Scout create her own avatar. • Have girls create their storefront by recording a personalized message that

their avatar will deliver to their customers by uploading a photo or video and personalizing their goals.

• Enter your mailing address so your Girl Scout’s personalized patch, if earned, can be delivered to the correct address. The estimated date of arrival of your personalized avatar patch will be listed on the girl dashboard.

• Send emails to invite family and friends to support your Girl Scout and her troop by purchasing nuts, candy, and magazines, or post on parent/guardian’s social media.

• Parents/girls will receive a weekly progress email letting your Girl Scout know how her online storefront is performing and which recognitions she has earned. Girls can log in throughout the program to send additional emails, track their progress, or view the avatars of other girls in their troop and even their leader!

Send emails early to allow your customers to shop and respond!Girls earn the Online patch by simply registering online and entering at least 15 email addresses.

Nuts/Candy In-Person Order Card:• Use the order card to collect orders for nut/candy items. • Payment is collected when a customer’s order is delivered. • NEW! Parents enter in-person order card orders into the M2 online site. Order

entries are due by Monday, Oct. 22 at 11:59 p.m. • Products will be picked up by the TMMs starting Nov. 12, so check with them to

find out when your product will be ready.

5 Steps for MagNut Success:Girls can prepare for the best experience by gathering a few tools for a successful sale.

1. GET STARTED WITH THESE ITEMS• Parent permission: All girls must turn

in a signed parent permission form to their troop before selling.

• Participation pieces: You’ll receive an in-person nut/candy order card and a flyer with instructions for participating in the online portion of the MagNut Program.

• A contact list of family and friends. • Remember: Magazine customers,

or online orders for nuts/candy, can live anywhere in the United States. However, nuts/candy ordered on your in-person order card, or online as girl-delivered, must be delivered in person, so nearby friends are best for those orders.

2. SET GOALS—GO BEYONDAim for a goal that is manageable but challenging. You can always adjust your goal later! Girls should set individual sales goals and should work with their troop to set group goals.

3. SOAR The online magazine program is the easiest way to achieve your MagNut Program goals! Get started at gsnutsandmags.com/gswpa where girls can build an avatar, enter email addresses, and start sending emails to family and friends in a matter of minutes.

4. IN-PERSON WITH FAMILY & FRIENDS After setting up your online storefront, you can create business cards with your online ID preprinted on them.Nothing beats a face-to-face connection, so take your nut/candy order card to visit family and friends. You can share your business cards so they can shop online later.

5. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS AND CELEBRATE SUCCESS

1. Create your avatar, a virtual girl that looks just like you! As you move through the activity, additional accessories will be available.

2. You have lots of avatars to choose from. Additional features and selections can be added to make your avatar even more unique!

3. When you get to your virtual room, look for your troop avatar photo and all the cool virtual accessories/rewards you can earn for your avatar. The troop photo will show the avatars of the participating girls in your troop, your troop leader, and your TMM.

Nut Promise:Online Girl-Delivered OrdersA nut promise, now known as an “online girl-delivered order,” is an order placed and paid for online for the same products that are available on the order card, but the girl/parent is responsible for delivering the product. Parents/girls will receive a weekly progress email of online girl-delivered orders. Parents/girls also receive an email when the online girl-delivered option is closed (Oct. 22). This email includes a link to a customer order detail report, including the dollar amount of the girl-delivered orders that have been attached to the girl’s total sales. The online girl-delivered orders can also be tracked on the girl’s storefront in the reports section under the Online Nuts Girl Delivered tab.
