Academy 9th through 12th grade

Cooke Academy (CA) is a specialized high school that meets a critical need in New York City. CA offers quality individualized special education services not accessible to most high school students with special needs. Recognized

for its rigorous academics and therapeutic programs, our school offers students the opportunity to develop academic, social, vocational and adaptive living skills.

Academy students participate in off-site education activities with dozens of community partners and select internship placements that match their unique strengths and interests. Students also develop their independent living skills, from navigating public transportation, to banking and grocery shopping, to preparing meals and doing laundry in the school’s Daily Living Lab.

SKILLs Ages 18-21

SKILLs (Skills and Knowledge for Independent Learning and Living) is a program designed to round out the academic, social, and life skills needed to make the transition from high school to adulthood. In addition to continued

academics in the core subject areas, SKILLs students can take advantage of all that New York City has to offer—using libraries, parks, museums, gyms and recreation centers as living classrooms. An active Cooke Alumni Association offers recreational opportunities, ongoing support and continuing education to Cooke graduates.

Grammar School Kindergarten through 8th grade

Cooke Grammar School (CGS) utilizes traditional and innovative teaching methods to address the specific needs of its students. Our Grammar School teachers and therapists instruct students in a supportive setting

and build on each student’s strengths and developmental needs. CGS instruction follows an academic sequence guided by the Next Generation Learning Standards, and through engaging classroom experiences, students gain new skills and knowledge. CGS is a vibrant school; classrooms come alive with fun, applied math and science activities, integrated technology projects and humanities lessons that cultivate reading and writing skills while encouraging opportunities for student leadership.

Cooke Institute Consulting & Training

The Institute furthers Cooke’s mission to share our knowledge with educators in the broader community. In the end, our goal is to improve the educational experience for all children. Cooke Institute works directly with a multitude

of educators in different roles to elevate outcomes in general and special education. Working with teachers and school leaders, Cooke Institute consultants support educators to gain knowledge of the diverse needs of their students.
