Rev. 2:15-16 “So hast thoualso them that hold the doc-trine of the Nicolaitans, whichthing I hate. Repent…”
The church in the city ofPergamos had within it a cult.
Some think it was named after its leader Nicholas; hence the nameNicolaitan. Although most if its belief system is lost to us, this cultʼsend result was a blending of Christianity with pagan rituals and thealley-cat morals they contained. The Lord admonished this churchto confront the cult within her or face His judgment. They were fail-ing to take a stand on the truth they claimed to hold precious. Theyhad been doing nothing and the Lord is telling them, “Stop it!”
Stop doing nothing! It seems like a contradiction, but the realityis they had done something – they chose to procrastinate, to putoff, and to delay a needed confrontation. It was not that they didnot care. It was that they did not care to act. It was just easier notto confront evil. It always is!
I read an article recently of a denomination that rejected an au-thoritative Bible and the concept of a holy God long ago. It had oncebeen a stalwart proclaimer of gospel truth, but it began to drift whengood men did nothing. Someone said, “All that is needed for evil totriumph is for good men to do nothing.” So stop doing nothing!
