Walk In Bank Payments Has Ended.

For many years, local banks provided a service to Cimarron Electric members by allowing them to make electric bill payments at their bank lobbies. The payments and receipts would then have to be transferred to Cimarron throughout the month. This service that local banks provided our members has dwin-dled down to a very small number of transactions. With all the avenues available now, the walk in payment of your electric bill at a local bank will not be accepted after May 1st, 2017. “We want to thank all the banks that have provided this service to our members for decades,” said Cimarron C.O.O., Jeff Hyatt.

Mother’s Day Sunday May 14th, 2017

Please don’t report out-ages on Facebook

Cimarron Electric welcomes member comments on Face-book and appreciates positive and constructive feedback, but please remember that CEC’s Facebook page is not monitored 24/7 for reporting outages.

Because we can’t guarantee a timely response, please do not report outages on our Face-book page. Outage reports can be made through SmartHub, or call our 24-hour hot line at 800-375-4121. As always, out-age updates will be reported on Facebook as soon as crews inform us of the situation.

May is Electrical Safety Month, Today is Electrical Safety Day!Each May we have Electrical Safety month. It is not a big deal at Cimarron Electric Co-op. Not the safety part, but designating a month for safety. At Cimarron Electric, safety is everything. It is a year long deal. It is an everyday topic that we try to never forget or get lax on.

It is discussed almost constantly. It is written on our walls. It is a mind set that we are try-ing to establish in our brains. It is easy to do the right thing most of the time, but it takes effort to do it all the time.

Although electric safety is a year round concern, spring and summer are ideal seasons to emphasize it. It is common to have power line damage caused by strong storms. It is also the time of the year when we get outside and start working in our yards and on our farms with ladders, shovels, loppers and equipment. It is a good time to stop, look up and around and be aware of electric lines that cross your property and your neighbors. Like many things, they be-come a part of the landscape, and therefore we forget they are there.

Every year avoidable electric contact accidents occur because proper precautions are not taken when working around electrical power lines. Ac-cidents most often occur when we get in a hurry, let our guard down, and don’t give electric power lines the respect they deserve.

In the event of a downed power line, always assume it is energized and report it to us im-mediately. It may look harmless, but it could be deadly.

Most electrical contact accidents involving peo-ple occur when large construction equipment, oil field equipment, farm equipment, pole saws or ladders are extended to heights that can reach power lines. Other accidents occur from digging into underground lines without first calling for locates. Call 811 before you dig! Following safe work practices will prevent unnecessary and painful accidents.

Because your member-owned electric infrastruc-ture is placed in and about your properties, it is important that we remind everyone of the poten-tial hazards.

We do “Safety Smart” electrical demonstra-tions for 3rd graders and teach electrical safety through school programs. Please visit our web site at www.cimarronelectric.com to see all types of safety information. Also visit www.safeelectric-ity.org for more safety messages.

We have a large increase in truck traffic in our area with all the oil and gas activity. Please be careful when you pull out onto the roads and highways. Don’t text or use your phone while driving. Always buckle your seat belts. If you are involved in a car accident and an electric line has fallen down on your vehicle, stay in the car! The only time you would try to exit the car before help arrived would be if the car was on fire and in danger of blowing up. Then you would jump free of the car making sure not to touch the car and the ground at the same time.

Our electrical safety instructor confessed at our monthly safety meetings that he has to be re-ally careful when working around his house. It is easy to get in a hurry, short cut and not have the tools you need. He reminded us to turn off the breakers and take safety precautions at home as well. Be smart and be safe!
