NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HBCU TITLE III ADMINISTRATORS, INC.

June 12, 2017

Dear Colleagues and Other Workshop Participants:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017 Annual Technical Assistance Workshop of the National

Association of HBCU Title III Administrators, Inc. I come to this event with enthusiasm and an eager

passion to help the Association achieve its mission and goals.

I trust that you have come to this workshop motivated and committed to learn.

We are an organization whose purpose is to preserve the integrity of our nation’s HBCU’s through

maximizing resources, building and strengthening cooperative partnerships, and providing grant managers

and their administrative personnel opportunities to develop and advance their abilities. We are dedicated

to preserving integrity in our endeavors to secure Title III funding. Our Technical Workshop is key to

providing training in leadership and organizational skills in Title III Program Management. We are

committed to federal compliance for Title III programs and use of best practices that enable us to provide

quality higher education, retain students and graduate them.

This year’s concentration is centered on Transforming Your Institution with Title III Support.

We will delve into topics of Program Management, Assessing Performance, Measuring Outcomes,

Impact, and Transformation.

I am delighted you are here and that you have chosen to take advantage of this tremendous learning

opportunity. I extend a hearty welcome to each of you. We are especially excited about welcoming our

new administrators to our Association and to the workshop.

I am sure that you are aware that the Workshop Planning Committee has been passionate in fulfilling its

roles and responsibilities and has worked tirelessly to prepare an agenda that is interesting, informative,

and productive. Sessions were planned with your professional development and growth in mind. Our

hope is, that you will take with you a number of innovative ideas, ways to identify best practices, and

thereby strengthen retention and graduation at your campuses. We also hope that you will take the

opportunity to relax and restore in preparation for what is yet to come in the award period 2017-2018.

I look forward to greeting and interacting with each of you over the next few days, and I know that each

of you will continue to make a difference at your institutions as a result of your experiences this week.

Regards,

Helga A. Greenfield

President

Dr. Haywood L. Strickland

President and CEO, Wiley College

Chair, Presidents’ Advisory Board

National Association of HBCU Title III Administrators, Inc. Dear Title III Administrators and Colleagues:

On behalf of the Presidents’ Advisory Board, I welcome you to the 2017 Technical Assistance

Workshop. We extend our warmest greetings and applaud each of you for your stellar support of the

Association through your membership, service and/or your presence at this annual meeting. This year’s

theme, Transforming Your Institution with Title III Support, is timely in that the possibility of increased

support resulting from the relocation of the White House Initiative on HBCUs to the Executive Office of

the President and the appointment of a new Secretary of Education will impact all of us in some manner.

The fact that you are reflecting on innovative ways to harness those possibilities and sustain the exemplary

best practices previously launched with Title III funds is commendable. As such, we celebrate your

visionary thinking and your stewardship.

As a Title III professional, this annual meeting provides you with many opportunities to strengthen

and enhance your knowledge and skills to better serve your institutions and to imagine a brighter future for

the students who enroll with dreams of securing a college education, preparing for graduate school and/or

transitioning to their first-destination careers. In so doing, you are the champions of transformative

changes on your campuses and the beacon lights for systemic innovation. We are grateful for the role you

play, as well as, your numerous other contributions in positioning your institutions to thrive in an uncertain,

constantly changing, and highly competitive higher education environment.

By virtue of your active participation throughout this annual meeting, you will become empowered

to do even more for your institutions, learn more about innovative initiatives, sustainability strategies, and

emerging best practices. I am pleased that you are here and that you have this unique opportunity to

dialogue with your peers, other conferees, college presidents and to learn from experts. Here’s wishing you

a most engaging conference and I look forward to seeing you throughout the week.

Warmest Regards,

Haywood L. Strickland
