Sometimes it’s a challenge to discover their passion. Instructors listen to what matters to participants and then we brainstorm together, ask leading, probing, and direct questions. Instructors help campers discover what they hope will make the world a better place. We do this while having fun and sometimes acting a little silly. Innovation is awesome to watch evolve. Then we help them find their voice. We do realize sometimes the most amazing idea can get lost when not conveyed effectively. By making every camper more effective at communication and leadership, we promote their passion in the best light. The results are amazing to see. Ideas flow, negativity fades and positive energy builds. This camp is sponsored by a team of volunteers who work closely with the TEDxYouth @Fort Worth. Snacks, lunches (Saturday only), and an Innovation Camp t-shirt are included in the camp price. $99

At Innovation Camp, youth are encouraged to find and share ideas through activities which focus on drawing out their passions and helping youth to express what matters to them. $99

Participating students may register for both verbal and math classes during one week, or they may opt to take only the verbal class or the math class. These intensive weeklong classes will use two practice tests—one prior to the class start and one at midweek—to teach the concepts, testing psychology, reasoning skills, and timing strategies necessary for the SAT. Instructor Erin Barnes will dissect practice test results to shape and customize class curriculum around patterns that pertain to each group of students. As noted above, the PSAT cutoff score of 570 indicates for what session/week each student should register. Strategies for timing and approach are different depending on students’ levels, and this cut-off allows for the ideal situation for Barnes to teach foundational and advanced strategies that will support student performance and success. Private Tutor Erin Barnes has a psychology degree from Dartmouth and a law degree from the University of Texas. This training results in her very individualized approach that combines an understanding of how people learn with an understanding of the logical steps necessary to reach an answer. When working with Barnes, students learn concepts on the tests, but also become aware of their own thinking process. While Barnes’ students consistently increase 200-600 points on the SAT and 2-11 points on the ACT—her ultimate goal is to impart skills that will serve students throughout school, not just on the college admission tests.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS PROGRAM The TVS Community Partners Program (CPP) invites students entering grades 7-12 to participate in this two-week

summer session focused on leadership in the community, learning about local non-profit organizations, and

discovering the important roles that philanthropy and service play in strengthening and improving the community

in which we live. The program will run June 5 - 16, and students should plan to attend both weeks of this two-week

program. Upper School students receive community service hours based on attendance and participation.

As part of the CPP program, students serve as a philanthropic board of directors and allocate real monetary

donations among participating non-profit organizations. This allocation experience is possible through a grant

given by the Once Upon a Time Foundation.

This course also includes hands-on service experiences at local non-profit organizations, where students gain first-

hand knowledge of how non-profit organizations operate and see how these organizations affect the lives of

individuals in our community.

There is no cost for this program, and participants have an amazing opportunity to learn what it takes to be a

philanthropic leader and make a difference within the community, but space is limited.

Visit CPP Web Page for Program Flyer and Application!
