WORKSHOP TRACKS
TRACK A: Worker Representation, Protection and Mobilizing
In Track A, we address methods of representing, protecting and mobilizing workers to
improve working conditions. This will include learning from labor and workers’
history, an introduction to labor law and workplace rights, representing workers
through grievance procedures and other methods of problem solving, building
workplace power, and women’s leadership. In Track A you will learn practical skills to
represent workers and build workers’ strength and power.
TRACK B: Globalization, Immigration and Justice Movements
We live & work in a global economy yet often know little of global labor & social
movements. How do we battle transnational corporations without global allies? Can
we fight our battles separately? Can we take on working conditions without
considering environmental & other connected challenges? There are threats to
deport all the unauthorized immigrants, the U.S. has withdrawn from the Paris
Environmental Accord, health care for millions of Americans is at risk, and many
politicians would like to destroy unions. How should unions respond? This class will
help you connect the dots in the global economy, link you to sisters fighting across
borders, and explore your immigrant roots. You will learn about proposals for NAFTA
renegotiation and movements for sanctuary cities, as well as discussing how unions
can best respond to these challenges.
All attendees selected either Track A or Track B during registration. We encourage returning attendees or more advanced activists to consider Track B. If you would like to change Tracks please let us know no later than July 11.
