 President’s Message 

 It is with great pleasure that I welcome everyone here tonight.  My name is Neil Perry and I’m very proud and honored to be the president of the Kalamalka Rotary Club.   Our Dream Auction Chair Sarah Pruckl and her team have done an amazing job preparing for our 33rd annual Dream Auction. I would also like to thank all of the Kalamalka Rotarians that have dedicated countless hours to make this event more and more amazing each year.  We can thank our visionary predecessors who started this incredible evening. If only they knew then how successful this event would become!  Last year the Dream Auction raised over $250,000, thanks to the generosity of our guests and donors.  I would like to take this opportunity to show you some slides of the incredible things that we have done in this community over the past several years. We truly make a difference in people’s lives every day, from children, to youth, adults and seniors.  We are also thankful to have incredible auctioneers, the Raffan’s, that come out every year and make this event an elite and memorable evening. It wouldn’t be the same without you!  We are lucky enough to have our next year’s incoming President as our Emcee this evening, Ryan Fairburn. Thanks Ryan.   Our theme in Rotary this year is “Making A Difference” and we are certainly doing that with this event. Please take time to read through the Dream Auction booklet and recognize the donors that have made this event possible.   On behalf of all Kalamalka Rotarians, we wish you a wonderful evening and happy bidding. You can be assured that all of your contributions will make the community and the world a better place. As my wife would say, I hope everyone “wins” something tonight. Let’s make some dreams comes true!  Regards,   Neil Perry

13  SILVERSTAR SKI DAY          An exciting day of skiing with Josh Dueck and Mike Shaw!  

Josh Dueck solidified himself as a star on the Canadian Para‐alpine team in 2014 with a double medal performance at the Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi. Dueck took gold in the super combined and silver in the downhill. He was named Canada’s flag bearer for the Closing Ceremony.   

At the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Games he was a silver medalist in slalom, placed fifth in downhill and 13th in Super G. As an ace sit‐skier, he revitalized his career, winning gold in Mono Skier X at the 2011 X Games and bronze at the 2012 X Games.   Dueck has won multiple IPC World Cup podiums and is the 2009 world downhill champion. Josh has also been a TED Talks speaker.  On Dec 16th 2013, Mike Shaw broke his neck in a freestyle ski fall at Keystone Mountain, Colorado, while coaching his athletes in a world cup event.   He had an incomplete spinal cord injury which resulted in quadraplegia ... with no feeling or mobility from the neck downwards. He has gradually recovered both with three months in GF Strong in Vancouver, and  six months in Vernon.   Redbull TV did a 26 minute documentary on him called ''The Healing Agent''. He has been interviewed several times on sports channels and Morning News in both Canada and America.   He has participated twice in the ''Wings for Life'' run as an ambassador for spinal cord injury for Redbull. He has also been heli‐skiing since his accident. Mike has also been a TED Talks speaker.  One pair of Oakley Flight Deck ski goggles. Vance Creek Hotel offers a one night stay in the Chilcoot Hotel at Silver Star in a one bedroom suite. Not available Christmas Holiday season.  Josh & Mike expires end of 2017/18 ski season (March 31, 2018).  Vance Creek Hotel is not available Christmas Holiday season and expires April 9, 2018.

Each continent has multi‐color LEDs behind it to create a glowing or floating effect when turned on. This piece can be plugged into a regular wall outlet. Once plugged in, the accompanying remote controls the multi‐colour LED lights that illuminate the edges of all the continents.   

This is specific representation of the Earth is called a parellélogrammatique projection of the world which includes the special case of the plate carée projection. It is attributed to Marinus of Tyre, who Ptolemy claims invented it in AD 100.   

The projection is neither equal area nor conformal. Because of the distortions introduced by this projection, it has little use in navigation or cadastral mapping and finds its main use in thematic mapping. In particular, the plate carrée has become a standard for global raster datasets such as Celestia and NASA World Wind. This is due to the particularly simple relationship between the position of an image pixel on the map and its corresponding geographic location on Earth.
