AGAINST THE FIELD OF 64The Seminoles played a total of 10 matches against nine schools that made the 2017 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship, including three national seeds and six schools from the ACC.

FSU posted a record of 3-6-1 against those in the tournament, including a 2-0 road win over No. 3-seeded Florida.

NATIONAL SEEDFor the 13th straight season and 14th time overall, Florida State received a national seed in the NCAA Tournament.

After finishing the season with a record of 11-6-1, the Seminoles earned a No. 4 national seed for the first time in school history.

FSU has received six No. 1 seeds (2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015), has been a No. 2 seed four times (2005, 2006, 2008 & 2010) and was a No. 3 seed in both 2007 and 2016. The only other time the Seminoles received a national seed was in 2003 and in that year the team was seeded 11th.

CONSECUTIVE APPEARANCESFlorida State is one of 12 schools all-time at the Division I level to post a streak of 18 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Eight of those schools are on active streaks, including four from the ACC.

NCAA SUCCESSFlorida State sits at 55-15-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, good for a .778 winning percentage. It is the second-best postseason winning percentage of all time (trailing only North Carolina).

Making their 18th straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017, FSU’s 55 wins are the fourth most in NCAA history. Only North Carolina has averaged more wins per NCAA Tournament trip than FSU.

NEARLY PERFECT AT HOMEFor all of the success that Florida State has seen in the NCAA postseason, the Seminole Soccer Complex has been a place where that success is nearly guaranteed.

Overall, FSU has posted a 41-1-0 record in the NCAA Tournament at home, winning every postseason game in Tallahassee, other than a 2-0 loss to Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the 2009 tournament.

The Noles have outscored their opponents 131-14 at home in those 42 matches, including a cumulative score of 78-4 over the last 23 games, dating back to 2010.

Florida State has recorded 12 consecutive shutouts at home in the NCAA Tournament and have not allowed a postseason goal at the Seminole Soccer Complex since Ole Miss in 2013, a stretch of 1010:02 of match time.

FSU VERSUS ARIZONA/PAC-12Friday’s match will be the first time that Florida State and Arizona have faced each other in women’s soccer.

Overall, the Seminoles are a combined 17-7-1 against teams currently in the Pac-12, going 4-2-0 in their last six matches.

FSU VERSUS AUBURNThe Seminoles are 10-2 in their 12 all-time matches with Auburn, most recently defeating the Tigers, 2-0, in the third round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Florida State is 5-0 in NCAA tournament matches against Auburn.

In their last 20 matches against SECopponents, dating back to 2010,the Seminoles have posted a 17-3record, including a 6-2 mark in games outside of Tallahassee.

FSU VERSUS STANFORDFlorida State and Stanford have met three previous times - all in the NCAA Tournament - and Stanford holds a 2-1 advantage in the series.

The Noles and the Cardinal most recently met in the 2014 College Cup semifinal, where FSU defeated Stanford 2-0 en route to its first NCAA National Championship.

ALL-ACC TEAMSPrior to the 2017 ACC Tournament, the Seminoles were represented on the All-ACC Teams as FSU earned four accolades from the conference.

Sophomore Deyna Castellanos and junior captain Natalia Kuikka were named to the All-ACC First Team, while freshman Gloriana Villalobos earned a spot on the All-ACC Third Team and All-Freshman Team.

It marked the ninth time in the last 10 years that the Seminoles have placed multiple players on the All-ACC First Team, and Florida State is the only conference school, other than regular season champion Duke, to have more than one player recognized on the First Team in 2017.

DALLAS MAKES HER MARKJunior Dallas Dorosy has been a significant player throughout her career so far at FSU, entering the year with five goals and two assists.

So far in 2017, Dorosy has matched that output, showing her versatility and ability as a forward and a midfielder, as she is second on the team with 19 points on eight goals and three assists.

DALLAS/DEYNA WINNING COMBOThe duo of junior Dallas Dorosy and sophomore Deyna Castellanos has been a quality scoring combination for the Noles this season.

Each of them scored a goal in a 2-1 win at Louisville (Sept. 21) and a pair of 2-0 victories at Virginia Tech (Sept. 24) and Florida (Oct. 12). They also each scored a goal in the 5-0 Seminole victory over Ole Miss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on November 10.

CASTELLANOS: 2X FIFA FINALISTDeyna Castellanos has also made a name for herself on the world stage, holding the record for most goals scored in FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup history with 11, and earning UWS Player of the Year honors in 2017.

On Aug. 17, Castellanos was chosen as one of 10 candidates for The Best FIFA Women’s Player Award. On September 22, the list was pared down to three, with Castellanos joining Carli Lloyd and Lieke Martens.

The sophomore was also up for the 2017 FIFA Puskas Award, given to the goal that is judged to be the most aesthetically significant, or “most beautiful”, goal of the year. Her stoppage time goal from midfield to defeat Cameroon at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup was the only goal by a female among the 10 goals in consideration for the award.

The goal was chosen as one of the three finalists for the award, along with Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud and Baroka FC’s Oscarine Masuluke.

RARE FIFA COLLEGIATE HONORDeyna Castellanos is in rare company as a current NCAA student-athlete that is receiving international accolades by FIFA.

Since 2001, when the FIFA Women’s Player of the Year award began, she is just the third current collegiate player to be among the top 10 finalists - joining Christine Sinclair (Portland - 2002) and Kadeisha Buchanan (West Virginia - 2015).

Castellanos is the highest finisher among the group as Sinclair finished sixth in voting in 2002, while Buchanan was not selected as one of the final three finalists in 2015.

FOUR-TIME ACC CHAMPFlorida State opened the 2017 season as the defending ACC champion for the fifth time in school history and the fourth year in a row. The Seminoles are the only school other than North Carolina to win back-to-back ACC titles.

The Noles earned their fifth conference title in 2016 and own five of the nine ACC championships not earned by UNC.

FSU VERSUS THE ACCThe Seminoles closed out the 2017 regular season with an all-time ACC record of 111-71-23.

Florida State is 90-26-17 in league play under head coach Mark Krikorian as more than three-quarters of FSU’s all-time wins in the ACC have come with Krikorian at the helm. Under Krikorian, FSU is 55-7-5 against league opponents at home and 35-19-12 on the road.

FSU has finished no lower than second place (including ties) in the ACC 10 times (2005-10, 2012-15) over the last 13 years, claiming three regular season titles (2009, 2012 and 2014).

DYNAMIC DEYNASophomore forward Deyna Castellanos has been an outstanding offensive presence ever since arriving in Tallahassee last year.

So far in 2017, she leads the ACC in goals scored (17) and ranks second points (37), while ranking third and sixth in the NCAA in those categories as well.

She has five multi-goal games this season - three goals against UNC Greensboro (Aug 18) and two goals each against Kentucky (Sept 3), at Troy (Sept 13), versus Notre Dame (Oct. 19) and against Ole Miss (Nov. 10). Castellanos has already scored 51 points on 24 goals and three assists in 31 games played for FSU.

MILLER: NCAA ALL-TIME GREATCassie Miller posted an impressive 2016 campaign as the FSU goalkeeper, ending the season ranked in the top 20 in the nation in four different categories - goals against average (0.398 - fourth), shutouts (13 - fifth), save percentage (0.866 - 16th) and minutes played (2032:51 - 20th).

It was just one part of an amazing career for Miller as she set the NCAA record for shutouts with 19 in 2014 and finished the season with a 0.34 goals against average.

So far in 2017, Miller has posted shutouts against UNC Greensboro (Aug 18), Kentucky (Sept 3), at Virginia Tech (Sept 24), NC State (Sept 29), Boston College (Oct 5), at Florida (Oct 12) and against Ole Miss (Nov 10).

The redshirt senior now has 47 career shutouts, which is tied for fourth in NCAA history. The mark has surpassed Kelsey Wys’ former FSU record of 45 that she set during her career from 2010-13. Miller has played in 56 games during her career that resulted in an FSU shutout, though because she did not play a complete game, but rather was subbed out seven times by Caroline Brockmeier in 2015 and twice by Amanda Kopale in 2016, she only gets credit for 47 shutouts.

Her career goals against average of 0.571 would rank 22nd all-time, but trails only Katelyn Rowland of UCLA (0.40) among goalkeepers that have over 7,000 minutes played.

She ranks second in NCAA history among active players in shutouts and is fifth in goals against average.

DOUBLE ASSISTSRedshirt freshman Clara Robbins aided on both goals by Deyna Castellanos in FSU’s 4-1 win on September 13 at Troy. She helped tie the match in the 16th minute on a pass into the penalty box, while a long pass from the defensive back line set up the final scoring chance in the 89th minute.

Gloriana Villalobos made the final pass on both scoring chances in FSU’s 2-0 win at No. 10 Florida on October 12. The freshman started an indirect free kick from 15 yards in the second minute that Deyna Castellanos scored to give the Noles a quick lead, and also found Dallas Dorosy in the 24th minute in the middle of the penalty box.

Freshman Adrienne Richardson posted a pair of assists in FSU’s 5-0 win over Ole Miss in the first round of the NCAA Championship on November 10, finding Dallas Dorosy in the 70th minute and combining with Megan Connolly for Kaycie Tillman’s goal in the 76th minute.

MADRIL HELPING THE TEAMFreshman midfielder Emily Madril made a strong first impression in her opening weekend in the Garnet and Gold, tallying a pair of assists against UNC Greensboro on August 18 and adding another on August 20 versus South Alabama.

The versatile wing player has seen action both on the right and left side, with assists from both spots in 2017.

HOME SWEET HOMEFlorida State is 141-11-6 at home since 2005 when Mark Krikorian became head coach at Florida State.

The Noles are 73-3-3 in their last 79 matches played at home, dating back to 2011. FSU has 25 wins over ranked opponents over that time and the only losses during that span was a 2-1 defeat to No. 6 Florida on September 5, 2014, a 1-0 loss to No. 10 North Carolina on September 17, 2017 and a 4-3 loss to Notre Dame on October 19, 2017.

ROAD SWEET ROADThe Seminoles are also impressive away from the friendly confines of the Seminole Soccer Complex, posting a true road record of 25-10-8 since 2013, as well as a neutral site mark of 10-3-2.

FSU has lost just nine times in its last 36 road games - including eight one-goal matches - a 3-2 defeat at No. 14 UF on August 30, 2015, a 1-0 loss at No. 2 UVA on October 25, 2015, a 1-0 defeat at South Alabama on September 5, 2016, a 2-1 loss at Boston College on October 6, 2016, a 1-0 defeat at No. 16 North Carolina on October 27, 2016, a 1-0 loss at Alabama (August 27, 2017), a 2-0 loss at No. 4 Duke on October 8, 2017, a 2-1 defeat at Wake Forest on October 15, 2017 and a 2-1 loss at No. 4 UNC on October 29, 2017.

SEASON-OPENING HAT TRICKSophomore forward Deyna Castellanos made a strong opening statement to the 2017 season, scoring all three goals on August 18 in FSU’s 3-0 win over UNC Greensboro, becoming the 13th Seminole to score three goals in a game in school history.

She was the first Seminole to record a hat trick since Marta Bakowska-Mathews tallied three goals against Stetson on September 14, 2014.

NO. 400 FOR KRIKORIANOn Sept. 24, Florida State earned a 2-0 victory at Virginia Tech, giving Mark Krikorian his 400th win as a collegiate head coach, becoming just the 16th coach in NCAA history, and eighth in Division I, to reach the milestone.

He currently ranks 2nd all-time with a .778 winning percentage (405-104-33).

FRESH FACESThe Seminoles welcome 11 newcomers to the squad in 2017, including 10 freshman and a sophomore transfer.

Five freshmen - Claire Griffiths (Wake Forest, N.C.), Angeline Daly (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.), Madisyn Pezzino (Grand Island, N.Y.), Emily Madril (Navarre, Fla.) and Gloriana Villalobos (San Jose, Costa Rica) all enrolled at Florida State for the Spring 2017 semester, joining the team in January and training with the Seminoles throughout the spring.

Florida State led the nation with three honorees and was one of just four schools – along with Penn State, South Carolina and Stanford – to have multiple players on the list.

It is the 14th straight season that the Seminoles have had a student-athlete named to the preseason Watch List and FSU has had at least two players selected 10 times in the last 12 seasons.

In 2007, Mami Yamaguchi won the MAC Hermann Trophy, the first and only player in school history to win the award. Yamaguchi led the country in points that season with 66, while finishing second in goals (24) and assists (18).
