Welcome1

Grand Wailea Resort MauiDear Members of the Sarcoma Community,

Make your plans for the 22nd Connective Tissue Oncology Society meeting in Maui, Hawaii!

We are delighted to be inviting you to the annual CTOS meeting, and are aware that the program will be competing with beaches and adventure right outside our doors at the beauti-ful Grand Wailea Hotel. We look forward to bringing you an exciting program that will continue to provide the latest research findings in sarcoma along with opportunities to develop and enhance the society’s traditions of multidisciplinary, international collaboration.

There is a sense that CTOS is at an inflection point, growing larger by the year even eclipsing 1,000 strong last year. This type of growth brings self-reflection and to this end we surveyed our membership in late 2016. Enthusiasm for the one of a kind annual meeting, a unique op-portunity to network with the leaders in all aspects of sarcoma care, was the clear major mes-sage from the members. But there is also a sense that CTOS may be able to do more for the sarcoma community. We look forward to this year’s meeting that will be designed to enable discussions of how CTOS may continue to evolve.

The highlights of this year’s program include a special session on Epithelioid Sarcoma, the Sarcoma of the Year and there will be symposia on: Basic Science including mesenchymal cell biology, animal models, and genomics, Medical, Pediatric and Young Adult Oncology including clinical trials, study design, advances in care; and new research technologies and multidisciplinary integrative team models.

During the course of the meeting we will be highlighting progress made through teamwork. We are planning a productive Saturday where disciplines will first gather amongst themselves in parallel sessions to determine the big questions that remain to be answered in the field. We plan to finish the meeting by coming together to share these big questions with our diverse members. We look forward to discussions and steps towards creating a framework to focus and enhance future multidisciplinary work.

Should you find time to spend outside the meeting you will have an array of options from whale watching, snorkeling, hiking, and adventurous drives around Maui. We anticipate many will extend their time with families or friends either before or after the meeting. Furthermore, we heard the feedback loud and clear; CTOS likes to dance and there will be an evening opportunity to again celebrate.

Sincerely yours,

Irene Andrulis, PhD Damon Reed, MD Steve Lessnick, MD, PhD2017 CTOS Program Co-Chair 2017 CTOS Program Co-Chair 2017 CTOS President
