BERLIOZ Roman Carnival
BRAHMS “Double Concerto” for Violin and Cello
THEA MUSGRAVE Rainbow
TCHAIKOVSKY Capriccio italien
Berlioz’s Roman Carnival is fashioned after his opera Benevenuto Cellini. This piece is a brilliant example of Berlioz’s ability to translate vocal music into an orchestral treasure. You’ll ride a musical roller-coaster traverses melodies that are dashing, bright, colorful and tranquil. Musgrave’s Rainbow is a musical soundscape of nature that paints a violent storm; a rainbow heralds the end of the tempest and the sun reappears.Brahms’s Double Concerto for violin and cello will explore the tone, depth and beauty of the instruments in tandem with the full orchestra, moving you through a musical kaleidoscope. Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio italien is an electrifying fantasy reminiscent of Italian folk music and street songs.

KERSON LEONG violin
KHACHATURIAN Violin Concerto
MUSORGSKY/RAVEL Pictures at an Exhibition
Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto is lusciously melodic and intense. Kerson Leong’s performance of this piece’s driving rhythms, chromatic inflections and exoticism will win you over.Musorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition is based on a memorial exhibition honoring the death of his close friend, artist Victor H a r t m a n n . M u s g o r s k y c h o s e t e n o f Hartmann’s works to which he added a “picture” of himself walking through the gallery. Organized around this recurring theme and stunningly orchestrated by Ravel, the piece progresses to a majestic finale that will leave you breathless.

MOZART Linz Symphony
SCHUMANN Symphony No. 2
Inspired by Afro-Caribbean rhythms, Insula Tropical is a vibrant, dazzling melodic ex-ploration of Puerto Rican terrain. Guillermo Figueroa will enchant you with his interpre-tation of this dramatic concerto. The Linz Symphony’s slow introduction blaz-es into a rich large-scale and wittily elegant piece with a brilliant finale that will leave you invigorated. Paying homage to Bach and Beethoven, Schumann’s Symphony No. 2 was also root-ed in the crisis of his personal life. A deeply sonorous introduction masterfully segues into an edgy melody finishing with joyous sound and fury that will leave you enthralled.
