Monthly meetings of Cd’AAA occur on the third

Tuesday of each month, beginning at 5:30PM, at

the Civil Air Patrol Bldg at 2410 W. Miles, Hayden

unless otherwise announced.

Cont’d from page 1 KCOE Airport Planning Meeting

Stakeholders were defined as those representing a diverse

group of interests, including: Corporate/Tenants,

Land Use Agencies, Economic Development,

Transportation Groups, Pilots. Not Schools?

Areas of study include Aircraft Traffic Counts, Runway

Analysis (looking into “decoupling” runway ends),

Land Use (noise analysis, Huetter Bypass, land

development on North side of airport)

There was a rousing discussion on the importance of

KCOE to the surrounding communities and the

income provided by airport tenants, private as well as

business/industrial. Some comment affected that the

County does not include all the income that should be

credited from property taxes, employment in

commercial buildings at/surrounding the airport, etc.

Discussion also centered around the airport

perimeters and pilot safety, as well as that of the

surrounding areas.

This is the beginning phase of the study, however,

meetings had already begun with the City of Hayden,

and the County. CdAAA is asking for volunteer

Stakeholders (3) to join the Stakeholder Committee.

If you are interested, please contact Greg Cook,

CdAAA President.

Meetings are tentatively set for September, November

2017, and January, March, June 2018. More

information will be provided about future meetings.

Plan to attend as announced.

As reported by Elsbeth Roach

The Cd'AAA recommends that hangar owners and renters be pro -active about preventing trouble at the airport and participating in airport watch activities.

We encourage all hanger owners and renters to

place the above Emergency Contact sign in a

window visible from the street. This will provide a

quick way to notify the hanger owner or renter if

anything unusual is noted by airport personnel or

other hanger owners.

Signs can be obtained from Murdo Cameron,

640-1620.

Greetings, Aviators!

You should become a weather expert but to do that, you need help.

So, here are my favorite weather resources:

1. Weather Flying by Robert Buck

2. "The Front," which is a newsletter published by the National Weather

Service

Here are a couple months you might find useful:

November 2011

October 2008

Unfortunately, the publication dates are a bit spotty, but it's worth going

through the back issues. Weather fundamentals don't change and it's a

good supplement to my next suggestion:

3. Advisory Circular 00-45H

If you only read these three publications, you will be well on your way to

understanding how weather effects your flight.

It's easy to learn about weather, but it's hard to make the correlation

between the written weather and how it will effect your flight. It takes

experience.

So, I know this may be a controversial thing to say, but when the

weather makes you uncomfortable, you should consider taking off

anyway just to see what it's like. You can always turn around...

I can't tell you how many times I've taken off with a borderline (but

legal) METAR and I've been able to make it, much to my surprise.

I know when to say "no" because I have gotten into the air and learned

what a METAR looks like on the ground AND in the air. You'll never be

able to make that connection until you takeoff.

That's it for this week! Fly safe!
