Visionary leadership from faculty, staff, andadministrationhelped launchand implementneweffortsandaddcapacitytoexistinginitiatives,despiteadministrativeturnover.Facultyin Basic Skills took initiative to redesign curriculum and support those changes withcommunities of practice.Newdistrict-wideMathdisciplinemeetings havehelped solidifyplans at theCollege in collaborationwith sister colleges tobenefit students.Applying fortheBasicSkillsTransformationGranthelpedfacultybecomeinformedaboutbestpracticesaround the state and energized them to make changes. Attending professionaldevelopment as a group brought together strong teams who could implement ideas oncampus.Hiringadditionalcounselorsaddedcapacitytoensurecoreservicesofassessment,orientation,studenteducationplans,andfollowupserviceswereexpanded.Campus-wideconversationsaboutstudentequityhavechangedthedialogueoncampus,ensuringthatanequity lens isbrought toallaspectsof instructionandservices.Studentshaveengaged inparticipatorygovernancecommittees,bringing their voice tohelp improveourprocesses.Without a full-time institutional researcher, we have struggled to get accurate data toquantifyourprogress;hiringaresearcherisahighpriorityandcurrentlyinprogress.

LaneyCollegeisinanidealpointoftheintegrationplanning,astheCollegeiscurrentlyparticipatinginstrategicplanning,whereCollegeconstituentsareundergoingarevisionofitsMission,Vision,andestablishmentofCollegeGoalsfor2018-2023.Thisworkwillenabletheintentionalalignmentofstudentsuccessgoalsacrossallstudentequity-relatedcategoricalprogramsandcampus-basedprograms,andwillalsobeinlinewiththeGuidedPathwaysplanningthatiscurrentlyinprogress.Inspring2018,student-equityrelatedcategoricalprogramsandcampus-basedprograms,includingacademicdepartments,willbetaskedwithsubmittingtheirplansforhowtheirworkwillintentionallylinkbacktotheCollege’snewlyformedgoals.AccountabilitymeasureswillbeinplacethroughtheInstitutionalEffectivenessCommittee.LaneyCollegealsohasthebenefitofarobustparticipatorygovernanceprocess,whichincludesplanningcommitteesthatensuresthatplanningacrossprogramgoalsistakingplace.Asanexample,anIntegratedPlanningWorkingGrouphasbeenformedtoensurethatplanningacrossstudent-equityrelatedcategoricalprogramsistakingplace,andintentionallyalignsresourcestoensuremaximumsupportofstudentsuccess.

Arecentlyadoptedposition,AssociateDeanofEducationalSuccess,hasbeencreatedateachcollegeintheDistricttoprovideenhancedsupportusinganequitylensforourcreditandnoncreditprograms.ThroughAdultEdBlockgrantfunding,wehavealsoaddedaTransitionsLiaisonpositiontoincreaseoursupportiveservicesthroughprovidinga"warmhandoff"forstudentstoon-campussupportsatstudententrypoints(ex:WelcomeCenter,CounselingDepartment)andpartnershipswithcommunity-basedorganizationstoensurethatstudentsarecontinuallyengagedinsuccessfulstrategiestowardcompletion.Laneycontinuestobeinapositionofsupportingstudentpost-secondarytransitionsandemploymentthroughjobplacementservices,internshipexperiences,andtransitionplanningwithindustrypartners.Laneyisattheearlystagesofdevelopingnoncreditcoursesandprograms.Laney'sfirstnoncreditprogram,ESOLBridgetoCredit,wasbackwards-designedtoprovidelower-levelspeakersofotherlanguagesanon-rampintocreditESOLprograms.OthernoncreditcoursesindevelopmentatLaneyinclude:• NoncreditBasicSkillsMath:mini-modulesforarithmeticandpre-algebratohelp

Weplantobuildandexpandonthefollowingactivities,whichhaveprovensuccessfulinprovidingthecollegecommunitysharedopportunitiestolearnstrategiesinachievingstudentsuccessandclosingachievementgaps:• TheAcademyforCollegeExcellence(ACE)FiveDayExperientialInstitute(FELI)hasbeen
rigorouslyevaluatedqualitativelyandquantitatively.Studentswhocompletethetrainingexhibitsignificantgainsin:academicself-efficacy,personalresponsibility,collegeidentity,mindfulness,leadershipandteamwork.Weplantobuildatrain-the-trainermodeltoinstitutionalizeFELIpracticesandincorporatetheFELIintoaFirst-YearExperienceprogramforstudents.OnegroupoffacultywastrainedSummer2017,andweplantoofferadditionaltrainingsin2018-19.
• Ongoing,consistent,andregularprofessionaldevelopmentaboutequity,studentsuccess,andsupportingstudentswithdiverselearningstyles.TheCollegehashostedguestspeakersandheldseveraltrainingsonequity.Weintendtobuildamoreconsistentregularprogrammaticapproachtostudentsuccessandequitytraining.TheCollegehasalsopartneredwithInsideTracktoconductaneedsassessmentofsupportservices,withthegoaloffosteringtheprofessionaldevelopmentofclassifiedstaff,toensurethatallprofessionalemployeesoftheCollegehavetheresourcestheyneedtohelpdirectstudentsontheirpathtosuccess.
• Conductingresearchanddatareviewspecifictoprogramandcourse-levelequityoutcomestoinformtargetedinterventionsforprofessionaldevelopment,whichmayincludefacultyinquirygroupstoexamineinstructors'ownequitydata.
d. Howandhowoftenwillyouevaluateprogresstowardmeetingyourstudentsuccessgoalsforbothcreditandnoncreditstudents?Youcouldanalyzemilestones,momentumpoints,leadingindicators,oranyothermetricyoufindappropriateforyourcollege.Evaluationofprogressindicatorswilltakeplaceatleasttwotimesperyear,withthefirstassessmentbeingusedasabaselineevaluation.Inaddition,therearesomeindicatorsthatwillbereviewedmorefrequently.Forexample,inthecaseofcoursecompletionandretention,thefullimplementationofEarlyAlertwillprovidetheopportunitytotrackimplementationstrategiestosupportstudents’continuedengagementinreachingtheirgoals.AnalysisoftheDistrict/CollegeScorecard,andmilestones,andmomentumpointswillalsotakeplace.

CoordinationofCollegeeffortstointegrateSSSP,StudentEquity,andBSIisanimportantendeavor.InPeralta,theDistrictAcademicAffairsandStudentServicesCommittee(DAASSC)hasrecommendedthatcollegeshaveonecollegecommitteetoreviewtheintegrationofSSSP/Equity/BSIplansandgoals.Further,DAASSChasrecommendedthatthecollegeintegratedplancommitteesprovideanupdatetoDAASSCeachsemesterabouttheprogressofobtaininggoalsandintegratingSSSP/Equity/BSIservices.Finally,DAASSCwillfacilitatehavingadistrict-wideannualIntegratedSummittodiscusspossibilitiesforcoordinationacrossdistrictcollegestosupporttheachievementofintegrationplansandgoals.

ExecutiveSummaryOverviewLaneyCollege,locatedindowntownOakland,isadiverse,urbancommunitycollegecommittedtoequityandstudentsuccess.InFall2017,LaneyCollegeconvenedanIntegratedPlanningWorkingGroupincludingrepresentativesfromtheFoundationSkillsCommittee,SSSPCommittee,StudentEquityCommittee,StrongWorkforce,AcademicSenate,administrators,faculty,staff,andstudentstodevelopaframeworkforLaney'sIntegratedPlan.TheWorkingGroupdevelopedhigh-levelgoalsfortheCollegethatintegratedthethreefundingstreamswithafocusonstudentsuccessandequity.Theplanwasdevelopedoverthefallsemester,withadditionalinputfromvariouscommitteesandsharedgovernancegroups.2017-2019IntegratedGoalsThroughacollaborativeprocess,LaneyCollegedevelopedthefollowingintegratedgoals:

In2015,ourformerChancellorDr.JoseOrtizestablishedaDistrictOfficeofStudentSuccessandEquity(OSSE)atthePeraltaCommunityCollegeDistrict(PCCD)tosupportthefourcollegesintheireffortstofosterstudentsuccessandequity,asdeterminedbyindicatorsfromtheStudentSuccessScoreCardandotherstatisticalmeasures.TheofficeservedallPeraltastudents,withafocusondualenrollment,fosteryouth,AfricanAmerican/Latino,andstudentsaffiliatedwithcommunity-basedorganizations(CBOs).TheOSSEalsosupportedeachcollegebyprovidingoutreachtotargetedpopulations,andthedistrict-widecoordinationofPCCDsUMOJAprograms.$622,000wasallocatedfromstudentequityfundswhichcomprised32%ofdistrict’sstudentequityfundingfromtheState.Anadditional$68,387wasallocatedfromtheDistrictgeneralfund1.ThetotalbudgetforOSSEwas$690,387.
