Tom Trenney is grateful to be in his 15th season as conductor of sounding light, an ensemble he founded in 2003. As Minister of Music to First-Plymouth Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, Tom leads

four adult choirs, accompanies the congregation in worship, and preaches. First-Plymouth’s choirs have been featured at recent conventions of the Nebraska Music Educators Association and the Nebraska and North Central regions of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). In March 2017, two of Tom’s choirs were honored to sing for the National Convention of the ACDA in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Eastman School of Music, Tom has performed and taught at choral, organ, and church music conferences from coast to coast. His recordings are featured regularly on public radio, and his choral compositions have been sung by collegiate and church choirs across the country. www.tomtrenney.com

sounding light (text: Psalm 146) Anne Wilson, organ. BOOSEY & HAWKES, INC.Hallelujah! Praise the Lord, O my soul. I will praise the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.Put not your trust in rulers nor in any child of earth, for there is no help in them. When they breathe their last, they return to earth,And in that day their thoughts perish.Happy are they who have the God of Jacob for their help Whose hope is in the Lord, their God;Who made heaven and earth, the seas, and all that is in them: Who keeps his promise forever; who gives justice to those who are oppressed, And food to those who hunger. The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind; The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous: The Lord cares for the stranger; He sustains the orphan and widow, but frustrates the way of the wicked. The Lord shall reign forever, your God, O Zion, throughout all generations. Hallelujah!

(text from Dusk at Sea by Thomas S. Jones, Jr.) Karen Cook and Christie Peck, sopranos FOSTCO MUSIC PRESS, a division of Shawnee Press, Inc.Tonight eternity alone is near,The sunset and the dark’ning blue,There is no space for fear,Only the wonder of its truth.

CATHEDRAL MUSICHide me under the shadow of Thy wings, O Lord, And give Thine angels charge concerning me: That I may lie down in peace and take my rest, For it is Thou, Lord, only, that makest me to dwell in safety.

Many Voices…One Song is grateful to ?????? for their generous contributions which have made this recording possible. This disc was recorded in the beautifully-restored sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, Michigan, in four sessions between June 2015 and April 2017.

(text: Rev. J. K. Alwood) BOOSEY & HAWKES, INC.O they tell me of a home far beyond the skies,They tell me of a home far away,And they tell me of a home where no storm-clouds rise:O they tell me of an unclouded day.O the land of cloudless days.O the land of an unclouded sky.O they tell me of a home where my friends have gone,They tell me of a land far away,Where the tree of life in eternal bloomSheds its fragrance through the unclouded day.O they tell me of a King in His beauty there,They tell me that mine eyes shall beholdWhere He sits on a throne that is bright as the sunIn the city that is made of gold.

(text: Psalm 91, adapted by Tom Trenney) For God shall give the angels charge over you; That they shall protect you, in all your living keep you. For their hands shall uphold and guide you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

HAL LEONARD CORPORATIONNow Talking God,With your feet I walk. I walk with your limbs.I carry your body forth. For me your mind thinks.Your voice speaks for me. Beauty is before me, Beauty is behind me.Above and below me hovers the beautiful;I am surrounded by it, I am immersed in it.Oh, in my youth I am aware of it,And in old age I shall walk quietly the beautiful trail.

We, unaccustomed to courageexiles from delightlive coiled in shells of lonelinessuntil love leaves its high holy templeand comes into our sightto liberate us into life.

Love arrivesand in its train come ecstasiesold memories of pleasureancient histories of pain.Yet if we are bold, love strikes away the chains of fearfrom our souls.

We are weaned from our timidity

we dare be braveAnd suddenly we seethat love costs all we areand will ever be.Yet it is only lovewhich sets us free.

(text: Henry Williams Baker) NEIL A. KJOS MUSIC CO.The King of love my shepherd is whose goodness faileth never;I nothing lack if I am his, and He is mine forever.

And where the verdant pastures grow with food celestial feedeth.

And so, through all the length of days, Thy goodness faileth never; Good shepherd, may I sing thy praise within thy house forever.

Hear timeless words of inspiration from Rumi, the Psalmists, Mister Rogers, and Maya Angelou set to compelling rhythms and harmonies of Johann Sebastian Bach, the African-American spiritual, Maurice Duruflé, and our own Tom Trenney.

A highlight of the program is sure to be our special guest conductor − award-winning composer Jake Runestad − who will conduct his moving composition, The Hope of Loving, for string quartet and chamber choir. Open

your heart to hear the passionate voices of sounding light sing into the eternal hope of loving.
