“It is truly thrilling to start this new chapter with the marvelous Charlottesville Symphony and with you, our audience. We’ll traverse a colorful combination of new and familiar works in our first season together, and I can’t wait to share them with you. Please join us!” - Ben

With the Season Opening Concerts on September 23 and 24, a new era begins for the Charlottesville Symphony – and for its loyal subscribers. You won’t want to miss a single note of Music Director Benjamin Rous’s inaugural season!

Ben has planned a menu of beloved favorites: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7; The Planets by Gustav Holst; Leonard Bernstein’s Three Dance Episodes from On The Town; Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini performed by guest pianist Clara Yang; Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 and a suite from Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky.

Mozart’s joyous Clarinet Concerto features Principal Clarinet Shawn Earle. Principal Trumpet Rachel Duncan performs Haydn’s brilliant Trumpet Concerto. And the UVA University Singers join the orchestra for “We Hold These Truths” and “University of Virginia” commissioned from composer J. Todd Frazier by the university as part of its Bicentennial Celebration.

Other season highlights include John Adams’ fun Short Ride in a Fast Machine and Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho’s evocative Orion. And there is much, much more!

While you’re completing the enclosed subscription form, please take advantage of this convenient opportunity to make a generous gift to our Annual Fund. This year, ticket sales covered just 26% of our operating costs. Your tax-deductible contribution helps pay our Principal musicians’ salaries, bring incredible guest artists to our stage and reach more than 6,000 children each year through free Youth Concerts and classroom programs. It’s a vote of confidence in the orchestra’s future as we begin this exciting new chapter.

Subscribers are always guaranteed the best seats and the best prices. You also receive VIP customer service, free unlimited ticket exchanges, tax credits for tickets you can’t use, lost ticket replacement and priority seating for both Masterworks and Family Holiday Concerts. We can’t wait for you to join this group of dedicated music lovers. Thank you!
