Shatin Church has had a long and intimate relationship with St Andrew’s. I’d like to tell you about some recent changes at Shatin.

In my last five years at Shatin Church, perhaps the biggest change has been the addition of a second Sunday morning service. For many weeks in 2015, we were hitting the capacity of the hall. Therefore, we added a second Sunday morning ser-vice in October. We did this by moving the first service to 9:30am and adding the second service at 11:30am.

There were plenty of reasons not to change. One major concern was in regards to the small groups. For about two and half years, our small groups met in the hall on Sundays after the service. More than half of the church stayed behind each week to study the Bible and pray together. What would happen to these groups? Then, there was also the question of human resources. Not only did a second service require more time, but also more people were needed to welcome, usher, pray, read, and so on.

As a church, however, we came to believe that growth necessarily entails change, and in order to continue to grow, we should change.

In the midst of all these challenges, we’ve grown spiritually. We’ve been pushed out of our comfort zone. We’ve been challenged to use the gifts and opportunities that God has given us. That, of course, is of greater importance than growth in num-bers. No doubt we’ll change further this year. And as we do, I’m praying that Shatin Anglican will become a church full of members who will make whatever changes necessary to serve others, and to grow in our love of Jesus.

News from Shatin Church

Thanks for coming along to church today. At St Andrew’s, we want to welcome everyone; Christian believers, those seeking faith, skeptics, all who are looking for a spiritual home in Hong Kong. At each Sunday service we seek to learn more about the truths of God from the Bible, and encourage one another in our faith in Jesus.

If you’re new, come along to the red welcome table in the north entrance foyer after the service. We’d love to be able to meet you, welcome you personally, and answer any of your questions.

We want to collect a gift from the congregation to thank them and to support their studies. Please mark your gift for all or any of them, and put it in the offertory bag or send it to the Church Office before 20 July.

Bible ReadingsPSALM 1

1Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
