Third Sunday of Lent Tercer Domingo de Cuaresma
Lenten Limericks By Gary Wilhelms
Oh, Lord, won’t you hear us today? It’s to you that we humbly pray. For your guidance we search Right here in your Church
With hope that you’ll show us the way.
What happens when fifty three women, one retreat leader, two priests, one Bishop, one Archbishop and one Zumba instructor get together? Faith, friendship and fun! This year’s
St Juan Diego Women’s retreat was deemed “best ever” by many. After dinner (fish of course - it’s Lent!) we met our retreat leader, Heather Renshaw.
One of the founders of Catholic Women Rejoice, Heather’s insight, sense of humor and ability to lead us in closer relationship to Christ and to each other was an incredible blessing. On Saturday Heather’s presentations focused on the
theological virtues Faith, Hope and Love using examples from the retreat book, My Bada** Book of Saints by Maria Morera Johnson.
A commitment to grow spiritually was met in other ways. The retreat featured a veritable Dream Team of amazing confessors. Archbishop Emeritus Vlazney, Bishop Emeritus
Steiner and Fr Francis Chun who led a quick True or False about the sacrament. Adoration provided another opportunity to spend quiet time with Christ. Our own Fr. Jeff Eirvin said Mass on Sunday, another special blessing! Most of the choir was on hand to sing beautiful praise. Of course it wasn’t all (spiritual) work and no play. With some open
time Saturday afternoon, “Craft-Mageddon” assisted retreatants to transform a mint tin into their own beautiful decoupage prayer
boxes. After dinner we enjoyed a 30-minute Zumba session followed by highly competitive games that continued late into the evening.
After Mass Sunday, women who were attending their first retreat were hugging those who have attended them all. Comments heard include: “Powerful small group discussions,”
“Everyone was so kind and inviting,” Did the retreat meet your expectation? “And then some!” What did we learn at the retreat? That the women of St
Juan Diego (and friends!) are amazing, incredibly talented, BODACIOUS Sisters in Christ. Put February 10 - 12, 2017 on your calendars for the next retreat.

This week the children in the Elementary Faith Formation program participated in a mini Lenten Fair. They learned about the 3 practices of Lent, and what they can do to become closer to God through Prayer, Fasting, and
Almsgiving. They circulated among the stations to make objects for a family prayer space at home.
