Jake Arbes has handled hundreds of post-conviction cases involving state parole, sentence reduction, appeals, habeas corpus, prison designations and transfers. He has assisted clients charged with serious state and federal criminal offenses for over 30 years. Jake has served as the Chairman of the Criminal Law Section of the Atlanta Bar Association, Vice-President of the GACDL, and was a founding member of the Georgia Innocence Project. Jake has been repeatedly recognized as a Super Lawyer in Georgia Super Lawyers Magazine, one of the Top Lawyers in Georgia by Atlanta Magazine, and named a Legal Elite Lawyer by Georgia Trend Magazine. He has written part of a book on criminal appeals in Georgia and has given many speeches on various post-conviction topics.

Wes Bryant is a trial attorney in the Federal Defender Program where he represents indigent individuals charged in the Northern District of Georgia. Before becoming a federal defender, Wes was a senior trial attorney in the Office of the Public Defender - Atlanta Judicial Circuit – for almost 12 years. Wes has tried all types of felony cases ranging from theft and armed robbery, rape and murder, and everything in between. While a public defender in Fulton County, Wes was the chairperson of the training committee. Wes attended GACDL’s Bill Daniel Trial Advocacy Program in 2005 and thought it was the best CLE that he had ever attended. Now Wes is on the faculty of the Bill Daniel Program.

Professor Suparna Malempati currently serves as an Associate Professor of Law at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School where she teaches courses in trial advocacy, evidence, criminal procedure, and legal writing. Prior to joining the faculty in 2008, Professor Malempati served for two years as lead counsel for the Office of the Child Advocate Attorney in the Fulton County Juvenile Court, where she led a team of lawyers and investigators representing children in abuse and neglect proceedings. She is also an experienced trial attorney, having worked in criminal defense for twelve years as an Assistant Public Defender in Fulton County and in private practice. Throughout her career as a trial lawyer, she successfully defended murders, sex crimes, and other complex felony cases.

Professor Paul Milich is a Professor of Law at Georgia State University, College of Law where he has taught Evidence, Advanced Evidence, Trial Advocacy, Contracts, and Legal History for the past 32 years. He also is the Director of the Advocacy Program at Georgia State. Professor Milich has written numerous law review articles and has published a number of books including: GEORGIA RULES OF EVIDENCE, and COURTROOM HANDBOOK ON GEORGIA EVIDENCE, both published by West. Professor Milich was the Reporter for the Georgia State Bar Evidence Study Committee, which successfully drafted and promoted a new set of evidence rules for Georgia which went into effect January 1, 2013.

Jennifer Willmott graduated law school in 1995, and joined the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office in Phoenix, AZ. By 2001, Jennifer was supervising and training newer trial attorneys. In 2006, Jennifer entered private practice by joining Willmott & Associates, PLC. As a trial attorney, she has defended thousands of cases from misdemeanor DUI charge to homicides, including death penalty cases. Jennifer has taught hundreds of attorneys the skills needed to succeed in trial. Her most publicized case was her representation of defendant Jodi Arias.
