CONFERENCE INFORMATIONThe West Region of the Association of State Dam Safety Officials invites you to attend the 2016 West Regional Conference, Engineering for Extremes Part 1: Seismic Design for Dams in the Western U.S. The conference will be held on March 9-11, 2016 at the Sacramento Convention Center in Sacramento, California.

Designing dams for extreme loading conditions is a fundamental requirement for safe dams. The risks associated with dams are reduced when engineers understand and practice sound engineering methods using the best available design parameters for extreme loading conditions. Seismic and hydrologic events are the two primary loads that must be considered to ensure a design meets the standard of care necessary for critical infrastructure. This conference, Part 1 of Engineering for Extremes will focus on the state of the practice and explore the state of the art for seismic design of dams in the western United States. From the aspiring professional to the seasoned engineer, this specialty conference will provide something for everyone by sharing the expertise and experience of internationally recognized seismic design and dam engineering experts.

Part 2 of Engineering for Extremes will be developed for future presentation and will focus on the state of the practice and the state of the art for hydrology design of dams in the western U. S.

Earn up to 12 Professional Development Hours:In recognition of the fact that an increasing number of professional engineering licensing bodies are requiring members to pursue professional development on a formal basis, ASDSO provides a signed attendance form to each registered attendee, on which you can record the number of hours you spent in session. Combined with a copy of the conference agenda, this form will help you keep track of your professional development hours (PDHs) for 2016. The PDH form will be found in the program booklet distributed at the conference. Please note: This regional conference is not eligible for New York continuing professional education credits.

Guest Registration:Personal guests and family members are welcome and encouraged to participate in the non-technical conference activities. Guest registration includes admittance to the conference catered events, including the opening reception and daily continental breakfasts.
