Enogen Corn Enzyme Technology: A Win-Win-Win ScenarioEnogen® corn enzyme technology is an in-seed innovation exclusively from Syngenta and is the industry’s first and only biotech corn designed specifically to enhance ethanol production. Enogen is a win for farmers, a win for ethanol plants and a win for local communities.

Enogen is rapidly gaining popularity because of the value it delivers and the opportunity it provides corn growers like you to be enzyme suppliers for their local ethanol plants. By metering in a small percentage of Enogen corn, ethanol plants have the potential to increase operational efficiency and reduce natural gas, electricity and water use.

What truly sets Enogen corn apart from other technologies designed to enhance ethanol production, though, is that it adds incremental value to local communities that rely on the ethanol industry. With Enogen, ethanol producers can redirect the money they previously used to buy liquid alpha amylase enzyme to local farmers instead, in the form of a 40-cent-per-bushel (on average) premium.

To produce Enogen corn, you can use your existing cultural farming practices (subject to applicable stewardship requirements), including nutrient, insect and disease management programs. More importantly, there is no yield drag shown with Enogen hybrids.

The Ethanol Grain Quality Solution: Creating More Value for Corn Growers and the Local Ethanol CommunityCorn feedstock is the single biggest input cost for an ethanol plant, and ethanol yield per bushel is one of the biggest drivers of plant profitability.

To help ethanol plants gain access to high-quality, locally-sourced grain, Syngenta is working with an increasing number of ethanol plants to introduce the Ethanol Grain Quality Solution, an agronomic protocol designed to increase corn yields and grain quality through insect control, early-season weed control (including glyphosate resistant weeds), disease control and Crop Enhancement. Participating growers are rewarded 10 cents per bushel for using the Ethanol Grain Quality Solution to grow their corn.

Participation in the Ethanol Grain Quality Solution is simple. Enrolled growers utilize high-yield agronomic protocols tailored to local conditions and best practices designed to mitigate risk and maximize yield potential. Enrolled Golden Harvest® corn or NK® corn growers are eligible to receive a 10-cent per bushel premium from the ethanol plant for delivery. Enrolled Enogen growers can receive an incremental 10-cent premium (above the 40-cent premium) from the ethanol plant for delivery.

The Ethanol Grain Quality Solution is a convenient and flexible way to market grain and improve return on investment. The Ethanol Grain Quality Solution also contributes to the stability of ethanol plants and local economies by helping plants be more profitable and providing rural economies with a new revenue source through the per bushel premium.

Ethanol: Good for Agriculture and Good for AmericaEthanol is helping America reduce its dependence on foreign oil, lowering prices at the pump, improving the environment with lower emissions, and growing the economy with jobs that can’t be outsourced.

Syngenta supports and promotes corn ethanol production to ensure a strong U.S. corn market, which is a stimulus for new agriculture technologies. And, for the past three years, Syngenta has donated one dollar for every Enogen acre planted to promote American-grown ethanol.

The ethanol industry is driving billions of dollars of economic activity across America. The result is clear:

The Enogen Value Tracker: Stewardship SimplifiedEnogen growers are required to follow specific, yet simple stewardship guidelines. These guidelines include planting non-Enogen border rows around an Enogen cornfield, cleaning out planters and combines, and dedicating bin space for all Enogen grain.

To simplify grain tracking, Syngenta recently introduced the Enogen Value Tracker, a new tool for Enogen growers. Beginning in 2015, the Enogen Value Tracker—a naturally derived, non-GMO purple tracer trait—was included in select bags of Enogen hybrids. Syngenta intends to include the Enogen Value Tracker in all bags of Enogen seed over time.

In seed bags featuring the Enogen Value Tracker, up to 5% of seeds will contain the purple tracer trait that will be expressed in the corn plant and through random kernels on the purple plant ear. The Enogen Value Tracker will appear as randomly dispersed purple plants across an Enogen field (inside the border rows). The grain produced from these purple plants will be comprised of both yellow and purple kernels to help make for easy visual tracking of Enogen corn from harvest through storage and processing—helping to ensure this high value grain is delivered to its intended destination.

The Enogen Value Tracker is part of an ongoing Syngenta commitment to providing Enogen corn enzyme technology to the market in a manner that offers benefits to growers like you, ethanol plants and biofuels production, while respecting the other uses of the corn crop. Note: Disease & Insect Ratings Ratings are not absolute; environmental conditions and certain cultural practices, such as continuous corn, play a critical role in disease development and insect infestation, which can, in turn, predispose plants to secondary disease such as stalk and ear rots. If conditions are severe, even hybrids rated as resistant can be adversely affected. Growers should balance yield potential, hybrid maturity and cultural practices against the anticipated risk of disease or insect pressure.

Ratings are based on interpretation of statistically analyzed results of studies conducted by Syngenta.

Flex hybrids adjust to growing conditions by changing ear length or kernel depth. Determinate/Fixed hybrids are less able to adjust ear size. Plant Population is considered more important for a determinate-ear hybrid than for a flex-ear hybrid.

Seed products with the LibertyLink® (LL) trait are resistant to the herbicide glufosinate ammonium, an alternative to glyphosate in corn, and combine high-yielding genetics with the powerful, non-selective, postemergent weed control of Liberty® herbicide.

The optimum seeding rate column indicates performance at these seeding rates, and the 15% above and below optimum columns indicate how well the hybrid responds to planting rates with heavier or lighter seeding rates.

Continuous Corn Agronomic Characteristics: Favorable ratings in this column indicate hybrids containing multiple agronomic phenotypic traits deemed important for fields where corn is being cultivated for consecutive years.
