PRINCIPALS OF OPERATION

Clearance between the pipe and fitting allows for easy insertion of the pipe.

Seal, which is in relaxed position.

Split collet, which is in relaxed position.

The pipe sits against the tapered wedges which minimises pipe rotation.

Positive internal stop when nut meets flange of the body.

Split collet bites into the pipe providing end load resistance.

Nut and then split collet has fully compressed the seal. Seal ring compression is achieved by exploiting the mechanical advantage of the nut thread.

3G® METRIC/IMPERIAL COMPRESSION FITTINGS

Fast and Easy InstallationSlide & TightenTM technology: 3G® compression fittings incorporate all the benefits of Philmac’s unique Slide & TightenTM technology. No pipe preparation is needed, no force is required to push the pipe past the seal. This means faster and easier installation because the fitting seals on the outside of the pipe. Simply insert the pipe into the fitting until the first point of resistance is felt, and then tighten the nut.

Compact design: The size of the Philmac 3G® compression fitting has been kept to a minimum, making the fitting ideal for use in confined areas.

Easy disassembly: The fitting has been designed so the grip ring is released as soon as the nut is backed off, making disassembly easy.

Complete SecurityVisual stop: With Metric Pipe, the body flange on the 3G® compression fitting acts as a visual stop to indicate when the nut is tightened. There is no benefit in further tightening of the nut.

No loose conponents: If the nut is removed there is no danger of losing components, as the grip ring and seal ring are retained in the body of the fitting.

Dynamic sealing method: As the nut is tightened, the seal is compressed between the pipe and the fitting body.

Designed to minimize pipe twist: The fitting has been designed to minimize pipe twist as the nut is tightened. Maximum pipe twist is approximately a quarter turn compared with one and a half turns with many other fittings.

Approvals: Philmac 3G® compression fittings are WRAS approved for potable water use.

THE COMPLETE SOLUTION

Long-lasting, corrosion resistance and easy to install, Philmac fittings have proven themselves in irrigation and commercial applications all over the world. They are the fitting choice for both contractors and installers.

Lead FreeThe Philmac range of 3G® compression fittings is completely free of lead.

PHILMAC 2016 PRODUCT PRICE CATALOGUE 7

High Performance MaterialsManufactured from Engineered Materials: 3G® compression fittings are manufactured from lightweight high performance thermoplastic materials that, unlike metal fittings, resist corrosion, significantly minimizing maintenance, repairs and long-term costs. The materials are non-toxic and taint-free.

Complete CoverageWide range: The 3G® compression fittings range is comprehensive: straight and reducing couplers, tees, elbows, male and female adapters and caps ranging from ½” to 2”.

Cut the pipe square, there is no need to chamfer or lubricate

Ensure 2 threads are showing and simply slide the pipe in until the point of first resistance is felt

Tighten the nut by hand then with a wrench. For metric pipe, tighten to the point where the nutis touching the flange on the body of the fitting. DO NOT TIGHTEN BEYOND THIS POINT.

The problem solver.

UTC – Universal Transition CouplingThe UTC® is a unique range of mechanical compression fittings that provide the ultimate in pipe connection flexibility.

Designed especially for connecting pipes that are made from a variety of different materials, such as polyethylene, galvanized iron, PVC, copper, ABS, lead and stainless steel.

The Philmac UTC® is constructed with a wide outside diameter tolerance, and is designed to accommodate a range of different diameters on most pipe material within the one fitting.

In addition to winning an Australian Design Award for innovation in product development, the UTC® has been embraced by water utilities right around the world, including Australia, the UK, Europe and North America.

THE PROBLEM SOLVERFast and Easy InstallationSlide & TightenTM The Philmac UTC® incorporates all the benefits of Philmac’s Slide & Tighten™ technology. Simply witness mark the pipe against the flange on the fitting, and then insert the pipe to the correct depth. The nut can then be tightened using a wrench. The UTC® is fully installed when the nut can no longer be tightened with reasonable force. No special tools are required and the Philmac UTC® is supplied ready to use.*Pipes at the top end of the fitting tolerance may incur minimum resistance..

Easy disassembly: The design of the UTC® means that once the nut is backed off, the pipe can easilybe removed from the fitting.

Complete SecurityVisual stop: The mechanical advantage of the nut thread compresses the seal into position, eliminating resistance when inserting the pipe into the fitting, so there is no risk of seal distortion or displacement.

No loose conponents: The Philmac UTC® is pre-assembled and ready to use, there are no loose components. There is no need for individual assembly of a grip ring, sealing ring or nut. All that is required is the insertion of the pipe and tightening of the nut.

Dielectric (insulating) fitting: UTC® fittings are insulating andare a dielectric fitting for use between dis-similar metals.

End load resistant: UTC® fittings are fully end load resistant and do not require the use of thrust blocks.

Approvals: Philmac UTC® fittings are WRAS approved for potable water use.

PHILMAC 2016 PRODUCT PRICE CATALOGUE 21

High Performance MaterialsManufactured from Advanced Thermoplastic Engineered Materials: The Philmac UTC® is manufactured from lightweight high performance thermoplastic materials with outstanding impact, UV, chemical and corrosion resistance. The UTC® end contains hard stainless steel grippers which provide superior end load resistance.

The Philmac UTC® is pressure rated to 12.5 Bar at 20°C to meet the needs of high pressure systems.

Complete CoverageWide range: The Philmac UTC® range is comprehensive: Straightand reducing couplers, elbows and male adaptors, in both transition (PE to UTC®) and double ended versions (UTC® to UTC®) ranging from 15 mm to 61 mm)

FAMILY OF FITTINGS - A COMPREHENSIVE RANGE

Repair work UTC® is used extensively by water companies, plumbers and civil contractors for repair work. The UTC® x UTC®

fitting was originally developed as a copper to copper repair joint at the request of a global water company.

New installations Connecting polyethylene pipe to water meter risers and polyethylene pipe to copper.

UTC® fittings are used by water companies as a connection between polyethylene pipe and metal pipes.

Upgrades UTC® is particularly useful in service line upgrades. A small number of PE x UTC® fitting provide a complete

solution and will connect to whatever pipe the installer finds at the property boundary.

A UTC® x Threaded Tee provides a solution when tieing an irrigation system into an existing water service line.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS :: UNIVERSAL TRANSITION COUPLINGS

1. Cut pipe to lengthCut pipe square and to length using flange on the central body as a guide. Ensure end of connecting pipe is undamaged and clean.

3. Pipe insertionTo ensure adequate insertion depth, witness mark the pipe to the flange on the fitting. Then insert pipe to the correct depth.

5. Fully installedThe fitting is fully installed when the nut cannot be tightened any further with reasonable force.

2. Ready to use positionThe fitting is pre-assembled and ready to use, however always ensure the nut is backed off and 3 threads are showing. Pipes at the top of the tolerance may require 5 threads showing.

4. Nut tighteningTighten nut firmly with a wrench. Nut will not butt against the body flange when the pipe size is at the top end of the fitting tolerance.

Fitting selection can be made easier with use of the Philmac Pipe Gauge CopperIf user does not want to use a UTC the copper needs to be M.I. or F.I. ended so that we can offer a Met/Imp fitting to suit. Same rule applies for 54mm O.D. copper. Use copper compression fitting to adapt to M.I. or F.I. and then use Met/Imp fitting.

LeadThe general condition of lead pipe can make sizing difficult at top and bottom tolerance. If the recommended UTC is not successful the next size, up or down, depending on fit should be offered.

6. DisassemblyUnscrew the nut with a wrench. Pipe will be released and can be pulled out of the fitting.

Cut the pipe square, there is no need to chamfer or lubricate.

Ensure 3 threads are showing and simply slide the pipe in until the point of first resistance is felt

Tighten the nut by hand, and then with a wrench to the point where the nut is touching the flange on the body of the fitting. Do not tighten beyond this point.

1 2 3

Fast and Easy InstallationFast and easy Installation: no pipe preparation is required. Simply insert the pipe into the fitting until the first point of resistance is felt, and then tighten the nut.

Dynamic sealing method: the mechanical advantage of the nut is used to push the O-ring into the compressed position, eliminating the need to push past a seal when inserting the pipe.

No loose components: if the nut should be removed for any reason there is no danger of losing the O-ring, spacer or grip ring as they are retained in the nut Rated to 16 Bar – ensures the fittings meet the requirements of high pressure systems.

Lead-free: the fittings are made from materials that are lead free.

Dynamic sealing method: The mechanical advantage of the nut thread compresses the seal into position, eliminating resistance when inserting the pipe into the fitting so there is no risk of seal distortion or displacement.

No loose components: If the nut is removed there is no danger of losing components, as the collet and seal ring are retained in the body of the fitting. Losing components in the trench becomes a thing of the past.

Designed to minimise pipe twist: The fitting has been designed to minimise pipe twist as the nut is tightened. Maximum pipe twist is approximately a quarter turn compared to one and a half turns with many other fittings. Pipe twist can impact on not only the connection you have just made but also on the connection at the other end of the line.

Approvals: Philmac fittings are WRAS approved for above and below ground use.

High performanceMade from advanced thermoplastic materials: 3G Metric/Imperial™ is manufactured from lightweight high performance thermoplastic materials with outstanding impact, UV, chemical and corrosion resistance. The material is non-toxic and taint-free.

Rated to 1600 kpa: Metric/Imperial™ is pressure rated to 16 Bar (230psi) to meet the needs of high pressure systems.

50 year+ design life: Built to withstand the toughest conditions to ensure longevity and durability, Metric/Imperial™ has a 50 year+ design life.

Complete coverageWide range: The new Philmac 3G Metric/Imperial™ range is comprehensive: straight and reducing joiners, tees, elbows, end connectors and caps ranging from 20mm to 63mm. Also available are copper connection kits, normal gauge (IRS 134) connection kits, reducing kits and blanking plugs, ball valves, stopcocks, wall plate elbows and tank connectors.
