Letter from MHPCA President

The Midwest Regional Conference on Palliative and End of Life Care is sponsored by the Missouri Hospice &

Palliative Care Association. The conference is designed to assist health care professionals in understanding the

health care issues when treatment changes from curative to palliative care. Palliative care focuses on comfort

and quality of life rather than cure and prolongation of life. Palliative care is the foundation of hospice services,

however the principles are applicable to any setting where care is being provided to the terminally ill.

Purpose

The Midwest Regional Conference on Palliative and End of Life Care seeks to provide education for a

multidisciplinary group of health care professionals to increase the quality of end of life care.

Target Audience

Physicians and their staff, Hospital Nurses, Social Workers & Discharge Planners, Hospice Nurses, Social Workers,

Administrators, Medical Directors, Chaplains, Volunteer, Volunteer Coordinators, Bereavement Coordinators and

Nursing Home Administrators. Ethics Committees; Long-Term Care Nurses, Social Workers, Medical Directors,

and Administrators; Palliative Care Nurses, Physicians, Coordinator/Administrators.

About the Conference

I would like to personally thank everyone who is attending the conference this year. Our education

committee and board have worked very diligently to provide you with up-to-date information and

training you can take back to your staff. Hospice and palliative care is ever-changing in all aspects of the

care we provide. It is a challenging time for the industry due to regulatory changes, oversight and the

change in the demographics, etc. of patients we care for. Hopefully this conference will assist you with

meeting these challenges. I am very proud to be part of Missouri

Hospice and Palliative Care Association. MHPCA has been and will

be respected by other states and associations for our innovative

and educational endeavors. Please enjoy the conference!

Sincerely,

Diane Chappell, RN
