Why Do I Need Tennis Instruction At 2.5/3.0 Level ? (Skip Pavitt/Ray Yost)
• Are you using your body properly to hit shots? • Shoulders back? • Using hips?
• Are you pushing the ball or hitting it? • Leading with the butt of the racquet? • Following through with the hit? • Are you able to hit the ball hard or are you afraid of hitting the ball
out?
• Are you positioning yourself in the correct place to cover your part of the court? • Are you moving around for each shot or staying in one location? • Are you in the best position to return the ball?
7
Why Do I Need Tennis Instruction At 2.5/3.0 or 3.5 Level? (Continued - Skip Pavitt/Ray Yost)
• Are you serving correctly for your level of play? • Correct ball toss (i.e. location, height)? • Can you serve to different locations? • Can you put spin on the ball?
• Are you playing correctly for baseline play? • Are you staying behind the baseline and moving forward when
needed? • Are you hitting the ball deep into the opponents court?
• Are you playing the net correctly? • Are you in the center of the service box when the ball is in play? • Are you watching your opponent’s eyes at the net to determine and
position yourself for their return?

Why Do I Need Tennis Instruction At 2.5/3.0 or 3.5 Level? (Continued - Skip Pavitt/Ray Yost)
• Best way to utilize our instructors: • Form a group of peers that want to learn the same skills • Arrange a 90 minute instruction session for a particular skill • Practice what you have learned for several weeks • Arrange another 90 minute instruction session for the same
skill
• If you see improvement in your game: • Keep repeating the sessions and practices for another skill • Then, spread the word that it is possible to improve your
game
