For the second straight year, the Edinboro women’s soccer team is moving on to the PSAC semifinals following a 2-1 quarterfinal triumph over No. 24 Kutztown on Thursday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium. Fourth-seeded Edinboro (13-3-2) moves on to play in the semifinals on Saturday at top-seeded California (Pa.). Kutztown, the fifth seed in the conference tournament, now stands at 11-6-2 and will await their NCAA Tournament fate this weekend. Allyson Overly gave the Fighting Scots the edge in the 13th minute. The first goal was set up when Edinboro was awarded a corner kick. Kelsey Knoll delivered the corner to Overly who found the net for her second goal of the season and a key early lead. Edinboro took a two goal advantage in the 27th minute when Jansen Hartmann scored off an assist from Jenna Madison for her fifth score of the year. The score remained the same through the 71st minute when Kutztown was able to cut the lead in half. Hannah Fenstermacher scored from 15 yards out to put the Golden Bears back into the game. Kutztown kept the pressure on in the waning minutes and had an excellent chance with less than three minutes to play. Diana Malanga had a header opportunity on net in the 87th minute, but goalkeeper Meghan Kelly made a strong save to end Kutztown’s best chance to tie.

MATCH NOTES: Saturday’s semifinal at California is slated for an 11 a.m. start. It will be a rematch of last year’s PSAC semis when Cal defeated Edinboro, 5-1 … Cal came away with a 2-1 win at Edinboro
