Comprehensive Needs Assessment Summary

SCHOOL YEAR: Crestview Elementary 2018-2019 Data Sources Reviewed: Area Reviewed Summary of Strengths

What were the identified strengths?

Summary of Needs What were the identified needs?

Priorities What are the priorities for the campus, including how federal and state program funds will be used?

Demographics Crestview Elementary is a 1st-3rd grade Title 1 campus in Graham ISD. This improvement plan focuses on the 2018-2019 school year, the demographic information comes from the information available in September 2018. Student enrollment at Crestview Elementary as declined slightly with the graduation of a larger 3rd class than the incoming 1st grade class. September enrollment data shows that 531 students are enrolled with the Hispanic population growing the fastest.

Problem Statement 1: ELs in 3rd grade have a 58% approaches rate, 14% at the meets rate, and 7% at masters rate on STAAR reading and scores have decreased by 5% from the 2016-2017 school year. ELs scores on the math STAAR increased in the meets category by two points. The Hispanic population is growing quicker than the district can train and/or hire teachers with Bilingual certification and an understanding of the instructional strategies for ELLs

Targeted intervention for ELs with focus on language development and comprehension.

Crestview Problem Statement: The number of enrolled special education students has increased over the past three years. Current enrollment numbers are 40 special education student with two certified special education staff members, and 5 special education support staff.

Training for staff members to meet the needs of the special education students.

Student Achievement For the 17-18 school year, 71% of students in 3rd grade met approached level on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) Math, 30% performed at the meets level and 12% at the masters level. At Crestview, 68% of 3rd graders approached grade level, 30 % performed at the meets level and 17 % performed at the masters grade level on the STAAR reading assessment. Students performing at the advanced level has increased

Problem Statement: 2017-2018 3rd grade class did not have complete exposure to the Campus/District reading program. Intervention needs must be better identified.

Through grade level screening tools approved by district level personnel, students reading and math needs will be better identified so that we are able to intervene at the point of need.

over that past three years for STAAR Reading and Math. The overall percentage of students meeting standard on unit assessments has increased over that past three years. Implementation of Read Well in 1-2 Implementation of Bilingual Instruction in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades Implementation of Dibels in 1st, 2nd, 3rd (Read Well 1 & 2)

School Culture and Climate

Staff Quality/ Professional Development

All teachers at Crestview are certified in their current assignment.

Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment

Crestview has entered its 3rd year of implementation of the Read Well program in 1st and 2nd grade. We have seen an increase the all students' fluency and comprehension.

Problem Statement: The small population of students that are not progressing through the units of Read Well need to be seen in additional reading groups by support staff. We must ensure that all support staff are appropriately trained to provide reading support at level of learning.

Formative Loop has been implemented to help students learn the their math skills and to better identify areas that students need intervention.

Problem Statement: Students will not move forward until each math skill is mastered. Intervention and instructional strategies must be varied to meet the needs of the students.

Family and Community Involvement

Crestview has many opportunities for parents and community members to engage in the education of our students. Crestview has an active Parent Teacher Organization that helps sponsor and host events. Graham Concert Association brings in the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra for our 2nd and 3rd graders to observe. We provide multiple opportunities for Crestview students to interact with authors that are in the community (Bill Alcorn). Local business owners are very supportive of our school and donate items needed for

Partnership with Strong Fathers Strong Schools during 2018-2019 school year for Bring Your Dad to school Day, Math Night, and Science Night.

instruction and projects.

School Context and Organization

Technology Each instructional classroom at Crestview has a Promethean Board, 6 laptops, 3 iPads. 1st grade also has an additional 3 iPods for students to work on comprehension.

Problem statement: The laptops often are not able to function with Ticket to Read unless the flash player is up to date. Teachers must put in a Tech ticket each time that they laptops are not functioning correctly and thus fewer students are able to utilize technology.

Increase the number of functional technology devices in the classrooms across all grade levels.
