Today’s Game: With the 9-5 loss yesterday evening, the Baysox have now lost two games in a row...Bowie trailed all game, as the score was 5-0 before the Baysox notched their first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bowie mounted a late comeback by scoring two runs in consecutive innings in the eight and ninth frames off the Yard Goats bullpen. Starter Harrison Musgrave pitched seven strong innings, had a no-hitter through 4.2 innings, allowed a single run and struck out six Baysox batters. Aquino took the loss after he threw 4.1 innings, allowed nine hits, forfeited five runs, walked two and struck out one on the evening...A combination of Bobby Bundy, who was pitching in his first game since 4/20, Donnie Hart, Genison Reyes and Ashur Tolliver pitched 4.2 innings of relief, surrendered six hits, four runs, three walks and four strikeouts...The bright spot for Bowie offensively, came with the continued hot hitting of Mike Yastrzemski who extended his current hit streak to six games with two more hits and three RBI including a two-run homerun blast in the eight inning...The story of the game was the reckless abandon the Yard Goats had when it came to stealing bases off Baysox pitchers. On the day Hartford was 7-9 when attempting to steal a base, which is the highest amount of opponent stolen bases dating back to 2005...So far this year, the Baysox have not faired well against left- handed starting pitchers (1-5)...Kyle Freeland takes the mound tonight for Hartford and he has been one of the most dominant left-handed pitchers this season, but Bowie will look to “right the ship” and get back to their winning ways... Starting Pitchers: RHP David Hess makes his sixth start of the season...In his last outing a week ago today (5/3) he started the first game of a doubleheader against Richmond...It was a rain-shortened three-inning outing for Hess as he gave up a hit and walked one batter. The strong right-hander entered the 2016 season as the No. 18 rated prospect in the Orioles organization according to Baseball America...After a slow start in 2015 Hess was dynamic down the stretch and pitched two huge playoff games for the eventual Eastern League Champions, Bowie Baysox. During his final 15 starts, plus two playoff wins, he posted a 1.61 ERA...A big second half of 2015 looks to have Hess poised to have a breakout 2016 season...He features a good fastball, a slider and a curveball as his secondary pitches...Hess, originally a 2014 draft pick was the first player of his draft class to make their Double-A debut in Bowie... LHP Kyle Freeland is set to make his seventh start of the season for the Yard Goats...In his last start Freeland earned his fourth win in an impressive seven inning, five hit, three runs, seven strikeout performance against Harrisburg. The Rockies drafted Freeland with the 8th pick overall in the 2014 draft and although he has always showed a load of promise and a high ceiling, injuries have plagued him....Freeland entered the 2016 season as the No. 6 rated prospect in the Colorado Rockies organization...When healthy Freeland boasts premium “stuff” with a lively upper-90’s fastball, a slider (Noted as the best in the Rockies system), a changeup. and a curveball...Like his teammate Musgrave, last night’s starter, Freeland has been on the best pitchers in the Eastern League this year...Currently he is tied for second in the league in wins (4), and fourth in lowest ERA (1.42), trailing two of his teammates (Musgrave 1.30 & Marquez 1.03).... Freeland made just nine total starts in 2015 before undergoing shoulder surgery... Class of ‘14, Take the Stage: Tonight’s game features a pair of 2014 draft classmates...Yard Goats LHP Freeland was drafted No. 8 overall while Baysox RHP Hess was drafted in the 5th round...It is not too common to see players so young ascend to Double-A so quickly and find success so early in their career. Freeland & Hess entered the 2016 season as the No. 6 & No. 18 overall prospects respectively in their organizations. Hess has the upper-hand on Freeland when it comes to experience at the Double-A level, for he made his debut last season while this is Freeland’s first season in the Eastern league...Tonight’s matchup looks poised to be a good measuring stick for both class of 2014 pitchers as they assess their progress and continue working towards their goal of making it to the Major Leagues... Taking a Chance: If you happen to glance at the Eastern League batting leaders you will see Baysox catcher Chance Sisco name up at or near the top in several categories. Sisco is starting to flash the lumber that won him the 2014 South Atlantic League batting title and has earned him the rating as the Orioles #3 prospect in Baseball America...Through 22 games this season, Sisco has a league leading .462 on-base percentage and is batting .342 (2nd in the league behind teammate Corban Joseph, who was promoted to Triple-A last week)...He is currently sitting 47 percentage points ahead of the third best batter...He has always been known for being a great contact hitter and his 10.00 Total plate appearances per strikeout ratio is fifth best in the Eastern League...He is currently on a four-game hit streak and over his last nine games, Sisco is batting .448 (13-29) with four runs scored and five RBI...Sisco has recorded multiple hits in four of his last seven games and he has a hit in 9 out of his last 11 games... “Swiper no Swiping”: During last nights game the Yard Goats stole seven bases on nine attempts, an opponent season-high and the highest against the Baysox dating back to the 2005 season...However, this is not a fluke for Hartford, they lead the Eastern League by far with 55 stolen bases on the year and are second in stolen base percentage at 75.3 % through 30 games..On the contrary the Baysox have 18 stolen bases on the year in 30 attempts (60%) through 30 games...For the entirety of the 2015 season the Baysox had just 62 successful stolen bases and 46 in 2014... 2016 BOWIE BAYSOX GAME NOTES Tuesday, May 10, 2016 - 6:35 p.m. Prince George’s Stadium - Bowie, Md.
