Our Vision
Every child who needs a mentor has a mentor.
When we start something today we make a difference tomorrow.
A s York Region’s leading child and youth
mentoring charity, Big Brothers Big Sisters of
York facilitates life-changing relationships
that inspire and empower children and youth to
reach their potential, both as individuals and com-
munity members.
Witnessing the transformation of a child into a confi-
dent, concerned and motivated young person is a
remarkable thing. Ushering them into adulthood,
seeing them grow into a successful, responsible
member of their community, is even more satisfying.
Proudly, it’s something our volunteers, donors and
staff help to bring about every day, and we’re very
grateful for your generosity and support.
Whether it’s in the form of time or money, there is no
more important investment you can make than in
helping our region’s children to realize their full po-
tential.
We’re Big Brothers Big Sisters of York, and we believe
in the value and values of mentoring.
The Mentoring

employment and civic engagement of
the recipients of our mentoring
programs.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of York—Annual Report 2016
Financials
15
From a financial point of view, 2016 was a challenging year for Big Brothers Big Sisters of
York (BBBSY).
Overall, revenue decreased from the prior year. Donations were up 13%. Grants were
down 17.5 % due to the continuing competition for available grant funds. Fundraising
revenues were down 9% as the agency holds a Gala fundraising event every other year.
The agency was able to keep expenses at about the same level as the year before.
For the year ending December 31, 2016, Gross Revenue was $648,277. Program, Fund-
raising and Administrative expenses were $661,129. This resulted in a net loss of
$12,852.
Both the BBBSY Staff and Board continue to pursue opportunities to increase revenues
either through growing our current events and or new streams of revenue in the areas of
grants and donations along with reducing expenses where possible.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Staff and the Board for their con-
tinued support, dedication and teamwork in 2016. We look forward to our continued
and new partnerships in 2017 as one of the recipients of the Magna Hoedown and Rich-
mond Hill Tastes of the Hill; the year-end NewRoads Highway 11 Cruisers Car Classic and
closing out what we hope will be a fantastic year with our Signature Gala on November
25th!
