issues that are presented to us and can be challenging or outside of our
comfort zone? This session will focus on building the educator’s self-
awareness as well as the development of both non-verbal and verbal
interaction and response strategies to build stronger relationships with our

Fostering Resiliency in our Students Resilience has been defined as the ability to overcome adversity while
functioning in a healthy and successful manner. The single most important
factor for youth to develop resiliency is the presence of at least one trusting
and stable relationship with a committed and supportive adult. Teachers
will explore different ways to foster resiliency into their classroom
environment through explicit skill-building, modeling, and classroom
structures.

explore different underlying reasons that may result in a student “shutting
down” in class. Teachers will learn strategies and skills to interact with
students that may be withdrawn from learning to promote positive feelings

Promoting Hope and Belief within Ourselves and Our Students Striking the balance between accountability and availability with students
can be challenging. How do we hold the academic and behavior
expectations while also balancing supporting what a student may be
experiencing? Educators will explore their own beliefs and how that
impacts their presentation in the classroom. Educators will reflect on the
past year of learning and how the learning will impact their teaching
practices for the next year. Emphasis on self-care will be re-addressed.

21st Century Collaboration and Professional Development The Chelsea Online Learning Network (COLN) is an online collection of videos that provides
meaningful, “at-your-fingertips” professional development to all educators of Chelsea Public
Schools.
Our collection of short videos features best practices modeled by Chelsea educators—
including district instructional practices, classroom management, and more!
These videos allow educators to build capacity to meet the needs of our very diverse, urban
student population, improve instruction, and impact student achievement. The Chelsea
Online Learning Network allows Chelsea educators to become responsible for their own
learning and study when and where they are at their best.
If you are interested in submitting a video for the COLN, please complete the form found on
the website or contact a curriculum coordinator.
