A MESSAGE FROM

THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR And

BOARD PRESIDENT

Embracing Change

Benjamin Franklin said that “When you’re

finished changing, you’re finished!” 2017 has certainly been a year of transition

for Queens Centers for Progress. Charlie

Houston, our beloved Executive Director, retired and I assumed

his position. We promoted several key leaders and welcomed

new staff. We continue to be inspired by those who came before

us, and by the wonderful staff who give of themselves every

day with grace and selflessness. The culture of caring at QCP

continues to promote individuality and independence for each

person we support. This new year promises to be full of challenges for the entire field

as well as for QCP. OPWDD has shared its Transition Plan, laying

the foundation for Managed Care for most of our programs and

services. We are faced with threats to the Affordable Care Act

and to Medicaid, our primary funding source. Medicaid Service

Coordination, the lifeline for many with developmental disabilities

and their families, will become Care Coordination, operated by a

new company.

We’re not sure what these changes will

mean for us, but with change comes

opportunity. Even as we face new

challenges, our values remain the same.

We will continue to support and advocate

for people with developmental disabilities

and their families, promoting lifelong

opportunities and empowering people to

lead productive lives.

Terri Ross, Executive Director

Michael J. Macaluso, Board President
