2016-17 Arts Academy Senior Project: Performing Arts Students ACOR(k)N: Academy Class Of Relevant (k)Nowledge Mrs. Zolnowski Room 142 4 th period Day 2 (1/2 credit) http://www.lancasterschools.org/mrs.zolnowski Course Description This course is the final class for AVPA performing arts students. During the first quarter, students will explore career options and prepare for college by researching various schools, degree programs, and course sequences. Students will create resumes, gather application materials, and prepare for auditions and interviews. During the second and third quarters, students will propose and develop a final project. Students will learn about music through history, research standard and modern repertoire for their instrument/voice, and complete a paper and presentation about a piece of their choosing. Students will have several opportunities to perform for the music faculty and their classmates. The project will culminate with a performance during the AVPA Senior Recital on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. During the 4th quarter, each student will propose topics/projects for the remainder of the course. The final weeks of the class will be reserved for pursuing topics based on students’ needs/interests. Objectives To explore college opportunities and prepare students for college admission Expectations Be Prepared. o Bring all required materials to class. o Visit the restroom or drinking fountain before class begins. o Be ready to start (in your seat and quiet) on time. o If you are not in Room 142 when the bell rings, you are late. o 3 tardies = detention. Be Responsible. o Come to class ready to learn, always do your best, and keep an open mind. o Academic honesty is expected…always do your own work. o Plagiarism/cheating will result in zero credit for the assignment. Behave Respectfully. o Show respect for your teacher and classmates at all times. o Cell phones should remain off and put away unless deemed appropriate for use during a specific lesson or activity. o All school policies will be enforced. Materials Folder or 3 ring binder Paper Pencil/pen Flash drive for use in the computer lab (optional) Earbuds/headphones for use in the computer lab (optional) Grading Students will complete a variety of projects each quarter. Students will receive a grade based on the average of the total number of points received during that quarter. Many of the assignments (as well as resources) are posted for students on our Google classroom.

Course Description
