Dear Friends of Episcopal Day School,

As we move into our 65th year, we reflect on how far we have come because of the support our generous donors provide. While we are always working to “move forward together”, this year, we have an additional mantra to guide us which is to, “follow the leader.” We feel it is important to keep in mind that each of our students, teachers, & families are all leaders in their own right. As a donor to EDS you are leading the way to an exciting future for our students & giving us the tools we need to navigate the 21st century.

Because of your generosity, we have been able to update each room on the Hilton-Green Campus to create a bright & inviting learning space for our PreK2 - 1st graders. As we have moved more grade levels to this campus, we have made it a priority to expand our innovation space there as well. WIth a class set of laptops & many new items to build & create with, we can be sure that these students will have the tools they need flourish.

On the South Campus, we have worked hard to create a space that is both functional & beautiful for our 2nd-8th graders. New seating in the courtyard for lunches & class time have provided a modern & comfortable space for our students to gather together. New lockers for our 6th graders have completed our middle school hallway & given it a cohesive feel that is conducive to a program aimed at preparing our students for high school & beyond.

Not every gift is a part of our Annual Fund. Some donations this year were given to honor the life of a member of our EDS family. Contributions made to the Shelley LeCroy Memorial Fund have been used to create an outdoor classroom that will be known as ‘Shelley’s Space.’

I would be remiss if I didn’t offer my gratitude to Rachael & Albi Gilmer, for chairing the 2016-2017 Annual Fund. Their hard work & perseverance are a testament to how passionate they are about Episcopal Day School & the education that each child here receives.

Our Annual Fund donors are leading constant change & growth on our campuses, & because of their dedication we have raised over $1,000,000 in the past five years! This milestone is a true testament to the generosity of the families at EDS. Each dollar that is donated goes to create a stronger program for our students & it will be our privilege to watch each of them use the tools they are given to grow & learn.

Sincerely,

Ed CostelloInterim Head of School

PARENT SERVICE ORGANIZATION We would like to thank everyone who supported the EDS Parent Service Organization (PSO) over the last school year. With your help & participation, we had an incredible year. Our board members & volunteers worked together to create fun events & lasting memories for our students. The Backyard Movie that is hosted on the Hilton-Green Campus was a huge success & was greatly attended. The Father Daughter Dance has become a tradition that both daughters & fathers look forward to every year.

The Seventh Annual Grill on the Hill amateur grilling competition, which was held in Shelley LeCroy’s memory, was our best yet. Between the amazing food, great fellowship, & new entertainment, we were able to raise $37,000. This event allowed us the ability to give back to the EDS Annual Fund & to make a significant contribution to the Shelley LeCroy Fund.

We are so honored to have had the privilege to work yet again with such a great group of people. You often hear us say “It takes a village”, & we have the best village at EDS. We look forward to the 2017-2018 school year. Thank you again to all who volunteered to make last such a great success.

Christ Church parishioner and past EDS Trustee, Ouida Regan passed away in January of this year at the age of 89. She was an incredible woman and leader of our community. Among her many accomplishments, she served as the Director of the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce, the first woman President of Fiesta of Five Flags, and Trustee and President of the Pensacola Art Museum.

Each gift made in her honor worked to increase our financial aid program, which is such a meaningful and important part of our yearly enrollment goals and passion for providing all of the things that EDS has to offer to a more diverse population.

Thank you for helping us to honor her memory by donating to Episcopal Day School.

WE APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT WE RECEIVED FROM THESE OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY MEMBERS

FLORIDA FARM BUREAU

OUIDA (BAGGETT) REGAN

Thank you, Sandy Sansing for sharing your stories and your passion with our 5th Graders to enrich their experience throughout their Agents of Peace program. Because of Mr. Sansing’s generous donation of $1,000.00 and through giving opportunities from Kiva.org, Mrs. Boyles and her students can continue to cultivate a generation who will transform the world, not be shaped by the world.

A grant from the Florida Farm Bureau helped to support a special learning experience for our middle school students. The $250.00 grant was awarded for the 2016-2017 academic year under Farm Bureau’s competitive statewide “Ag in the Classroom” program.

Ms. Norris, earned the funding by submitting a successful application for a project to benefit her Seed to Table elective class where middle school students grow, and harvest fruits and vegetables through her innovative and hands-on curriculum.

Good evening family, friends, educators, & fellow graduates. Congratulations!! We should all be proud of what we have achieved & are here today to celebrate. We celebrate years of working to become the people that we are today. We celebrate great leadership, humble worship, outstanding teaching, learning, & growing. We extol the amazing & special place Episcopal Day School has been for all of us & what a privilege it has been for us to be a part of it. I would like to thank everyone who has helped us grow & learn throughout our years at EDS, especially our teachers who have gone out of their way to continue our education & ensure that we have had the best possible experience. & yet, today is not the end, but as we all know, the beginning as well.

Today is just a step - yes, an important step - but it is still a step on an ongoing journey, & the next phase of that journey begins when we walk out the door today. We know that high school will be a challenge, regardless of the school we attend, but I have faith that every member of the class of 2017 will be very successful. To borrow from Dr. Seuss, “Oh the places you’ll go.”

As we move forward from middle school, I encourage

you to humbly embrace your past & eagerly

anticipate the future. Our generation faces tremendous challenges beyond that of our parents. We are living in a time of instant global communication & with that an ever-increasing pressure to do better, to be the best, & to succeed. All of this during a time when everything we say & do could be recorded & shared with the world. With that, it is imperative to remain true to yourself, be real, & live with honor & integrity. We are fortunate at EDS. Our school has provided the necessary skills & education for us to do this through its mission, vision, & core values that have been instilled in us. Throughout lessons inside & outside the classroom, we have learned to embrace our diversity yet remain true to our principles.

Being successful is not merely measured by numbers or achievements but the path taken in order to get there. An honorable student is trustworthy, hard working, & pursues every endeavor with vigor & forthright effort. Each & every one of us will face a variety of challenges, but our teachers & parents have given us the tools to weather the storms that we may encounter. How we handle success or adversity will vary with each individual, but I hope, fellow students, that you will remain true to the moral & ethical codes of conduct that you have been taught throughout the years at EDS. Those codes of conduct will shape your future.

Beginnings are hard, endings are sad, but it’s the middle that counts.

I heard that line in a movie once, & it resonated with me. Coming to a new school as a shy fifth-grader with few friends was certainly difficult &, of course, saying goodbye will be extremely sad. However, it’s in the middle where I have learned to truly appreciate what we have here. It’s the memories that were made, the knowledge gained & the friendships that developed that have been the most meaningful. I will never forget what I had here, at EDS, in the middle.

I thank my classmates & teachers for the wonderful memories that we have created together. From night-hikes at Camp Cosby to zip lining through the woods in North Carolina & all the classes & trips in between, you have all changed my life. I treasure our time together, & I will miss EDS & the amazing class of 2017! As we move forward with our lives, remember that we are stewards of our God-given talents & resources. Use them wisely & with honesty & integrity. Make a mark on the world in your own special way!

Once again, Congratulations Class of 2017! & remember, “we all have issues,” so “when in doubt, factor it out.”
