ADELAIDE CONVENTION CENTREA $400 million 2-stage redevelopment of the Adelaide Convention Centre is significantly increasing capacity and flexibility with the end result being three distinct interlinked buildings. Stage 1 opened for business in March 2015 and offers significant additional floor space, state-of-the-art facilities and panoramic views of the riverbank. Stage 2, featuring more exciting spaces and further increased capacity, will be completed in 2017. This redevelopment positions Adelaide Convention Centre as one of the most versatile, technologically advanced and appealing event spaces in the world.

Central to this phase of exciting new infrastructure is the re-development of Adelaide’s ‘Riverbank Precinct’ - home to Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide Oval,

Adelaide Festival Centre, Adelaide Casino, hotels and surrounding plazas. This area is developing as a world-class business, events and entertainment precinct creating a lively and highly connected riverside space for delegates to meet and do business by day and be entertained by night. Complementing these developments is a world leading health and biomedical research hub featuring pioneering research institutes and one of the world’s most advanced hospitals, cementing Adelaide’s reputation as a destination for related conventions.

ADELAIDE OVALThe famous Adelaide Oval has recently completed a $535 million re-development, featuring innovative stadium design and operations whilst preserving its world famous heritage. When looking at stadiums across the world, Adelaide Oval is unique in many ways, but one of its best attributes is its proximity to the city. With a connecting footbridge to North Terrace and its Riverbank neighbours, Adelaide Oval is twice

as close to the city as the MCG is to Melbourne. From a business events perspective, Adelaide Oval offers 22 diverse meeting and event spaces, with the option of panoramic views across the city for gala events. A recent addition is the flagship Hill of Grace Restaurant, combining one of Australia’s most premium wines with exquisite cuisine.

CONVENTIONS ADELAIDE PROGRAM – CREATING FERTILE GROUND FOR HOSTING CONVENTIONS

South Australian industry is diverse, innovative and powerful, creating fertile ground for hosting conventions. A highly strategic initiative, the Conventions Adelaide

program, offers the support, networks and world leading expertise necessary to ensure convention bids and programs are successful.

Conventions Adelaide has formally engaged backing from a network of over 80 ‘Ambassadors’ who are all leaders in their respective areas of speciality and industry sectors. This group includes Ministers, the Lord Mayor, the Governor of South Australia, state government executives, university executives and professors, heads of research institutions and senior corporate executives.

Working with the Adelaide Convention Bureau and industry partners, the Ambassadors advise and open doors within their networks, establishing the support base necessary for successful conference bids and programs. Importantly, such engagement supports a convention’s goal of creating long lasting social and political legacies.

The Conventions Adelaide program may also draw on the input of the ‘Professional Conference Organiser’ (PCO) sector. Through their commitment to the development of South Australia’s convention sector, these PCO’s may advise and assist clients during the bidding process and, once an event is confirmed for the destination, provide scope for retention of management support, ground services and sponsorship generation.

The South Australian Government recognises the great importance of welcoming major conventions to Adelaide and is committed to supporting the Adelaide Convention Bureau in

enhancing Adelaide’s international profile in the business, professional and scientific world.

South Australia is moving toward a future of sustained economic prosperity with mega-projects in health, mining, infrastructure development and defence, advancing South Australia’s economy and international profile.

The state’s primary areas of focus and strength include;
