IN THIS ISSUE

Last year, the Wisconsin Business

Education Association

proposed a name and identity

change to better reflect the

role of Business and Information

Technology Educators in

Wisconsin. The proposed name

change was Wisconsin

Educators of Business and

Information Technology

(WEBIT). The purpose of the

change is to provide a better

reflection of the role of Business

and Information Technology

teachers in Wisconsin and the

education they provide to

students in the state. In May

2014, a survey was sent to the

general WBEA membership with

a selection of six potential new

logo designs. Twenty-nine

members responded with an

overwhelming response for the

logo pictured above. The

marketing committee, within

the executive board, will

continually develop marketing

materials to promote the new

logo and name.

In addition to the name and

logo change, members should

bookmark a new and improved

site at, www.webitonline.org, in

addition to an updated Journal

format, and last, a new

registration system through

MemberClicks.

The WEBIT Executive Board

hopes that members are

excited for these changes! A

special thanks to WEBIT

Webmaster, Katie Grassel, for

all her hard work on transferring

information over to the new

website, and to Josh Firgens,

CIO, for his diligence on moving

our registration system over to

MemberClicks.

A huge THANK YOU to all who

were involved in the planning

and organizing of the 2014 Fall

Convention as well as those

who took time out of their busy

personal and professional lives

to attend. Our keynote speaker,

Molly Schroeder delivered a

thought-provoking and inspiring

message on “Living in Beta”.

Here are just a few of the take-

aways:

Inspire moonshot thinkers

Don’t be afraid to fail. Be

afraid not to try

Teach your students to “ask

3 before me” - Google,

YouTube, a friend

If a video can replace you

as the teacher, it probably

should

What’s in your “educational

graveyard” and what

should be? (devices, units,

pedagogy?)

“Mind the gap” - what’s the

learning that took place,

not just the test results

What are the last 4 globally

collaborative projects

you’ve done with your

students? It shouldn’t be

difficult to come up with this

list of four

Show the edge of you;

bring the students with you

when you explore and

learn

Capture accidents. A

wrong answer is the right

answer to a different

question

As the two days of convention

went on, we were more than

impressed with the presenters

and the information,

knowledge, and experience

they were able to share with us

all. We sure do have amazing

colleagues that we can learn so

much from! If you missed

convention this year, MAKE

SURE YOU GET TO CONVENTION

IN 2015! You won’t be

disappointed.

Development, and Wisconsin Technical College System are using February’s observance of Career and

Technical Education Month in Wisconsin to highlight the wide range of exciting opportunities available to

youth in the state who wish to explore their career options and the benefits of those innovative programs

to Wisconsin business, industry, and communities.

In the coming weeks, please check back often as we update other resources on our page. Please use

the time between now and February to plan your CTE month celebration in your school and

community. http://cte.dpi.wi.gov/cte_ctemonthresources

On the website, there will be a variety of tools that can be used on a regular basis. As resources become

Money Smart Week® is a public awareness

campaign designed to help consumers better

manage their personal finances. This is achieved

through the collaboration and coordinated effort

of hundreds of organizations across the country

including businesses, financial institutions, schools,

libraries, not-for-profits, government agencies and

the media. These groups come together once a

year to stress the importance of financial literacy,

inform consumers about where they can get help

and provide free educational seminars and

activities throughout the week. Programming is

offered to all demographics and income levels

and covers all facets of personal finance from

establishing a budget to first time home buying to

estate planning. The effort was created by the

Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 2002. Money

Smart Week partners will be hosting their events

April 18 - 25, 2015.
