Dear Team Captain, The 2015 Walk to End Lupus Now™ is the year for us to make a lupus movement. With your team, we have the ability to discover the power to fight for this movement! Every year, we achieve goals to raise awareness, fund research, and educate the community. We need to strengthen our efforts to impact the movement! To start, we need to make this the most exciting and talked about event. We need you, your family, and your friends to help spread the word of empowerment.

Together, we have a great power that can and will make a difference. We can make a difference by helping someone undiagnosed and struggling to find answers, helping a mother understand how to live better with lupus, and teaching patients how to better manage their symptoms. The difference of understanding what happens after a diagnosis is so important. The difference is giving a young man hope and encouragement when he needs to start kidney dialysis. The fact that all of our efforts combined give the Lupus Foundation of America the ability to stimulate $7.6 million in new funding for research and education programs is amazing. This gives us great hope for the future! Together, we have the power to start a movement and make a difference.

Stay updated with all the walk details by reading our weekly emails and newsletters. You matter to the foundation and if at any time you have questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to our chapter. In order for the event to be a success, we need everyone to rally together. Invite your friends and co-workers to join together and Walk to End Lupus. In this packet, you will find tips on how to lead your team and the foundation to a great success!

Check our chapter website, LupusGreaterOhio.org, if you need extra walk materials.

Thank you, Leslie Tierney, RNVP of Operations/Patient Navigator

Team CaptainsLead Your Team To Victory

Build Your Team As a Team Captain, you are acting as a direct link to your community and the LFA, GOC. We need you to communicate with your team and the Chapter. By informing your team of dates and events, you are building a well-informed team.

Facts to Relay to Donors: • Lupus affects an estimated 60,000 Ohioans and 1.5 million Americans.• Lupus affects more than those affected by MS, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy, sickle cell

anemia, leukemia, and AIDs combined.

Fundraise

The Walk to End Lupus Now™ event is our signature fundraising event. The event is held across the nation in multiple cities. In order for us to make a difference, we are required to raise the funds necessary to carry on the mission. If you ask ten friends for a $5 sponsorship, you will already be at the $50 incentive level. Easy! If you need help with starting an email or letter writing campaign, feel free to reach out to the chapter for pointers and help.

Some ways a sponsorship gives to those affected by lupus:• $25 will provide 1 year courtesy membership to a lupus patient that is experiencing

financial hardship. • $50 will provide 100 lupus patients brochures to a local health agency on lupus. • $100 will provide 10 hours of telephone support for individuals affected by lupus. • $500 will provide 100 informational packets to doctors’ offices for individuals affected

by lupus. • $1,000 will provide online webinars on special topics requested by patients to learn

about. • $10,000 supports lupus research for one month.
