Nocrisisresponseisanybetterthanitscommunications.Allresponsiblemanagers,includingcorporatesecuritydirectors,mustgiveandreceivetimelyinformationinordertoeffectivelymanageanycrisis.Asacorporatesecurityprofessional,youmustnotonlydotherightthings...youmustalsocommunicatetherightthings.Realorperceivedfailureineitherareacanleadtorapidcrisisescalation,lossofcontrolandstakeholderoutrage.Properlyprovided,however,effectivecrisiscommunicationscanserveasavehicleforopportunity.Therearefourcrisiscommunicationscomponentsthatmustbeincludedinordertogaintrustandcooperationfromanyinternalorexternalaudience.Understandingthissimpleandhighlyeffectivemodelforcrisiscommunicationswillserveasananchorasyoupositivelynavigatechaoticandunexpectedcrisissituations.Withoutaneasy-to-remembermentalmodelfornavigatingdifficultconversations,itisdifficulttorecogniseseriousomissionsinyourcommunications.Innearlyeverycrisis,blameisfocusedtowardyouandyourorganisationbyimpactedstakeholders.Peoplearequicktoassumenegligence,dishonesty,unfairness,andotherculpabilities.Inafastpacedandhigh-consequenceenvironment,itiseasytolosefocusinsidethe“crisisbubble”...unlessyouknowthefourcomponentstoassureeffectivecrisiscommunications.
