1 THE CAMP The Frost Young Musicians’ Camp, established in 2000, was created to give music students of all ages, a place where they could study with expert faculty, while being surrounded 24/7 with kids like themselves – all on the beautiful campus of the Frost School of Music in Coral Gables, FL. WHICH PROGRAM IS RIGHT FOR ME? INTERMEDIATE PROGRAMS IF you have been studying your instrument or voice for at least 1 year and you want to learn new things about music…. THEN our Intermediate Programs are right for you! You can choose your area of interest: Jazz, Classical Instrumental, Rock, Voice/ Musical Theater, or Piano (classical or jazz/ pop). INTERMEDIATE A For vocalists and instrumentalists entering grades 4-6 who have studied at least 1 year. Campers will have a fun day (escorted by our camp counselors), which includes a performing ensemble, music theory, stomp (our unique rhythm class), and a creative music class. INTERMEDIATE B For vocalists and instrumentalists entering grades 6-10 in the fall and have been studying their instrument or voice for at least 2 years. Campers will have a performing ensemble, music theory, a special workshop in your track, and an elective such as: improvisation, songwriting & composition, conducting, or rhythm section workshop. They also can enroll in an optional course such as Reggae Ensemble, Pop Vocal Ensemble, or take a private lesson. THE CAMP

WHICH PROGRAM IS RIGHT FOR ME?

INTERMEDIATE PROGRAMS

IF you have been studying your instrument or voice for at least 1 year and you want to learn new things about music….

ELEMENTARY PROGRAM

IF you are entering grades 2-4 and have been studying Guitar, Piano, Violin, or Voice/Musical Theater for at least 1 full year, THEN this program is for you.

Campers will have a fun (and well-supervised) day from 9:00am-2:00pm, playing their instrument in a small group, singing in chorus, playing rhythm instruments in our stomp class, and learning about music in a creative way!

ADVANCED AND ADVANCED HONORS PROGRAMS

IF you are thinking of becoming a music major in college, IF you think that performing or composing is what you want to do, OR IF you just want to explore music on a higher level...

THEN enroll in the Advanced Program or audition for the Advanced/Honors Program and experience what it is like to be coached by UM professors and other top performers in their field.

ADVANCED PROGRAM

The camp offers the following tracks in our Advanced Program:

• Classical Piano

• Classical Instrumental (for winds, strings, piano, classical guitar, and percussion)

• Jazz Instrumental (including strings)

• Voice: Musical Theater, Jazz & Classical

• Rock.

The core curriculum consists of Ensembles, Music Theory and an Elective such as conducting, songwriting & composition, music biz-multimedia, intro to improv, piano forum, vocal techniques, and classical guitar forum. Special optional classes such as Digital Sound Design (using Logic

Pro 10), Reggae Ensemble, Intro to Media Writing and Film Scoring, College Prep Music Theory and private lessons are also offered. In order to apply, your music teacher must recommend you for this program.

ADVANCED/HONORS PROGRAM

The camp offers the following tracks in our Advanced/Honors Program:

• Classical Chamber Music

• Jazz Instrumental

• Songwriting & Composition

• Classical Piano

• Voice: Jazz, Musical Theater, Classical

Campers join with the Advanced Program for Music Theory and Elective in the morning. In the afternoon they participate in Honors Ensembles. This Program is one hour longer than the regular camp.

Note: This is the only camp program where students are selected based on an audition demo submitted to the camp.

WHO IS THE FACULTY?

Our faculty is made up of University of Miami Frost School of Music professors who teach daily classes and also give special masterclasses, professional musicians, music educators and UM Frost School of Music graduate students.

HOW DO I GET TO CAMP?

If you live in South Florida, we have a private bus company providing transportation from West Broward County, North Miami Beach, Bay Harbour Island, Miami Shores, Miami Beach, and Key Biscayne. Other stops may be added upon request.

OUR OVERNIGHT PROGRAM

Are you from out of town or from outside the US, or do you live in Miami but want to see what it’s like to go to a sleep away camp? Our full-time dorm program is open to campers ages 12 and above. Coordinated by our amazingly talented Dorm Counselors, campers will spend lots of time playing music and hanging out with people like you who are seriously into music.
