DESCRIPTION

Minturn Anglers hosts Steelhead trips in the Fall in Alaska for some of the most “chromer” steelhead anywhere, and of course the occasional silver salmon and dolly varden off-catch. The steelhead we fish for are all within 20 miles of the ocean so they are fresh as can be and have seen little to no fishing pressure. This becomes apparent as soon as you hook your first one. Alaskan steelhead and salmon jump and take drag peeling runs into your backing. Why because most of these steelhead have never seen a fly.

ALASKA

TRIP OVERVIEWOur annual destination to the Kenai Peninsula in the great state of Alaska is home to breathtaking annual runs of wild steelhead. Fall steelheading in Alaska cannot be beat and no one does it better than Minturn Anglers! Join our crew for one, two or three weeks from September 21st to October 11th on our favorite peninsula and experience steelheading like it should be. We fish on the Kasilof River in drift boats from it’s glacier fed lake to the mouth of the bay. We average fish from 28”-31” and had days last year where 19 fish were hooked from one boat. The rest of our fishing days are spent wading the Anchor River and Deep Creek where happy customers netted between 2 and 4 steelhead daily. Those interested can float the Anchor River in a inflatable kayak to cover more water as well.

The locals and the scenery up here are all part of this experience, and a big part of what keeps us going back year after year. We see all kinds of wildlife (eagles, moose, bear and more), catch plenty of huge steelhead, and enjoy having a beer or two watching the sun set over the snow covered volcanoes after a great day of fly fishing. The weather is very mild through early October, with average highs in the 40’s and 50’s which is balmy steelheading.

Once you come to Alaska you can pretty much put it on your schedule for every year after that, as that’s what happened to us here at Minturn Anglers.

TRAVEL DETAILSThe easiest and quickest way to get your adventure travel trip started is to fly to the Anchorage Airport. You can fly multiple airlines to Anchorage with plenty of direct flights available from your nearest major city. Included in your trip price is a flight to Kenai from Anchorage which puts you 25 minutes from the lodge where we will be waiting to pick you up with a hearty Alaskan welcome and a short commute to our luxurious cabins for the week. This is an upgraded amenity from last year and cuts out a three or more hour drive from Anchorage. If you are traveling with a group, please arrange flights in close proximity to each other so we can get everyone on the same flight to Kenai and back.

We can pick up fishing licenses and any extra amenities you may need on our way back to the cabins where the fire pits will be flaming and cold beverages await. You are also welcome to pick up a rental car and meet us at the lodge if you would like a personal vehicle your trip.

The trip hosts, Matt, Rosie, Dave, Billy, Alex and Erin will provide transportation the week of your stay and happily make the commute between river and lodge. We also travel to Homer, AK at least one night for a family-style dinner. Last year’s guests were a big fan of “Dolly Dave’s Mom Van”

LODGING & MEALSThis year’s trip provides some of the best lodging and location to date. Our crew has the entire property known fondly as “Cabins on the Bluff” booked solid for an exclusive stay with Minturn Anglers. Each cabin has a completely new and furnished kitchen, multiple beds, state-of-the-art washer and dryer and personal bathrooms in each building.

Cabins on the Bluff is located in Clam Gulch and is equidistant from Homer, AK, and the Kasilof River where we will have float crews on the water every day. We are also just minutes from the rivers we will be wade fishing for steelhead; The Ninilchik River, Deep Creek and the Anchor River.

Breathe taking views of snow covered, active volcanoes cap off a day of fishing and it’s not uncommon to have the occasional moose stop by your cabin to say hello. Each cabin’s own fire pit is stocked with fresh firewood every day for fires in the evening and they also each have a gas grill for cooking the salmon we catch. Nothing is better after a hard days fishing than a relaxing evening watching the sunset from your cabin porch before retiring with steelhead dreams.

All meals are provided and will be cooked by Billy McMillan, Minturn Anglers guide, Colorado chef and trip host. Hot breakfasts, shore lunches and home cooked dinners are provided and ready for you before you leave in the morning and waiting for you when you get back from fishing.
