    Choosing Wisely is a national campaign aimed to help patients take a more involved role intheir health care by learning to choose medical tests and treatments that are supported byscientific evidence, are not duplicative of past test or procedures, and are truly necessary fordiagnosis or treatment. The panel will present topics identified in the Choosing WiselyCampaign and the evidence based support for their recommendations.

    Mental Health Association of MarylandAn interactive performance by the Maryland Mental Health Players.

    This session will provide a review of the attitudes and treatment of sexual relationships forsenior living in a variety of settings. It will deal with the issue of choice for seniors who areconsidered competent and for seniors who have the disease of dementia. Information will beprovided regarding seniors from the LGBT community. There will be discussions regardingethics, past values and beliefs. The presenter will provide case studies and discussion toteach positive methods to handle inappropriate sexual behavior due to dementia and createpositive methods to respond to intimate situation with seniors and their families.

    Using role play and interactive audience participation, this troupe of volunteer actorsexpands awareness and educates community members about mental health issues, mentalillnesses, relationship problems, substance use, and a comprehensive range of societalproblems.Conflicts are presented through diaglogue between actors, with a narrator facilitatingaudience responses. This flexible, spontaneous format allows actors to tailor performancesto a broad variety of topics and audiences.

    Learn how to effectively support real and meaningful choices for our Elders.

    Identify issues, from caregiver and care recipients perspective, regarding caregiverstress, end of life decisions and maintaining a person's dignity.

    Identify the Choosing Wisely recommendations and their use as guidelines for an appropriatetreatment plan between providers and patients.

    Understand how to integrate the Choosing Wisely initiative in promoting conversations betweenproviders and patients by helping patients choose care.
