Blue Engine Blue Engine partners with public high schools serving low-income communities to prepare dramatically greater numbers of students for postsecondary success. At its core, Blue Engine recruits, trains, and supports Blue Engine Teaching Assistants (BETAs)—talented recent college graduates who provide individualized instruction and reduce student-to-instructor ratios to help students build the academic skills and mindsets required to succeed in college-level coursework. BETAs work in school-based teams high school math and English classes, collaborating with school staff to help entire grade levels make dramatic gains in academic achievement. An intensive four-week training program in August prepares BETAs to review content, learn how to set ambitious goals, invest students in their own success, and conduct measurably effective small group instruction that is both flexible and responsive to student learning. During the school year, BETAs work with small groups of students and collaborate with teachers in the classroom and after school to customize instruction, increase academic rigor, and build empowering relationships with students at every academic level.

Broad Institute The Broad Institute brings together a diverse group of individuals from across its partner institutions—undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, professional scientists, administrative professionals, and academic faculty. The culture and environment at the Broad is designed to encourage creativity and to engage all participants, regardless of role or seniority, in the mission of the Institute. Northfield Mount Hermon School Summer Session Northfield Mount Hermon School is an independent, coeducational boarding school in western Massachusetts. Under the direction of Dr. Mark Urken, Chief of Head & Neck Surgical Oncology, THANC assists research that evaluates the impact of thyroid, head and neck cancer on patient function, disease progression, and long term survival. The THANC Foundation is based in New York City’s Union Square at the Institute for Head & Neck and Thyroid Cancer in Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital.
