TheFellowship

Therearenocurrentglobalstandardsoftraining,practiceandlevelofcareforpatientswithneoplasmsoftheHeadandNeck.Therearesignificantvariationsinthequalityandlevelsofcareinvariousgeographiclocationsintheworld.Thegoalofdevelopingaglobalonlinefellowshipistocreateaprogramtoteachandtrainyoungsurgeonsandtesttheirknowledgeandthoughtprocesses,throughwhichrelativeuniformityofknowledgebaseandjudgmentaremeasuredandcertifiedforspecialists,throughanonlineeducationprocess,withcontinuousupdatingandmonitoringoftheknowledgebase.

Thefellowshipwillinvolveacommitmentof2yearsofselflearningthroughastructuredcoursecurriculum,withperiodiconlineexaminationsastheprogramprogresses,untilcompletion.Atthecompletionofthecoursecurriculum,thecandidateswillembarkupona2monthobservershipandthenappearforanoralexaminationbeforeaninternationalpanelofexaminers.Uponsuccessfulcompletionoftheoralexaminationacertificatewillbeissuedrecognizingthesatisfactorycompletionofthecoursecurriculum,andpassingtheexamination.

Suchcertificationwillensurethatthecandidatehasacquiredanestablishedglobalstandardofcoreknowledge,andmaturedajudgmentprocessthroughselfeducationandsuccessfulcompletionoftheexamination.

2.CurrentengagementinHeadandNeckSurgerytrainingorpractice.

3.CertificationandletterofsupportfromtheHeadoftheinstitutionwherethecandidateconductshis/herclinicalactivitiesindicatingacommitmentbythecandidatetothespecialtyofheadandnecksurgeryandoncology,andcurrentnatureandtenureofemployment.

4.Acompletelistofoperativeproceduresperformedduringtheprecedingyearshowingasignificantproportion(over50%)ofheadandneckcancer/tumorcases,wherethecandidatewaseithertheoperatingsurgeonorfirstassistant.

5.PersonalstatementindicatingcommitmentbythecandidatetocompletetheFellowshipandfuturecareergoalstoutilizetheknowledgegainedthroughthisFellowship.
