    IELI Student Activities International Ladies Group

    IELI ladies! Dont miss this great opportunity to meet other women, build friendships, practice English, share experiences, eat delicious food, and, most of all, have FUN! The group will meet outside the Marquis Hall east entrance Monday, September 14 and visit a volunteers house! Snacks will be provided, transportation can be provided, and children are welcome. We will meet outside of Marquis Hall at 5:15 and the meeting will last from 5:30-7:00 pm. See Jessalyn or Raven in MARQ 202 for more information or if you have any questions.

    Conversation Hour Students, do you want to practice English outside of class? Would you like to play games and have snacks while practicing your English skills? Conversation Hour is a great way to make new friends, have fun, and practice your English. You do not need to sign up.

    Starting this term, Conversation Hour will be every Thursday from 12:001:00 pm in the 3rd floor student lounge and AGAIN from 5:006:00 PM in MARQ 215 . Come to one or both!

    TB Testing All new Fall I international students are required to be screened for tuberculosis after beginning classes at UNT/IELI.

    You must complete a TB test by Thursday, September 17. Please call 940-565-2333 and press option 2 to set up an appointment. When you go to the Health Center, you must bring three forms with you:

    TB Screening Record Medical History Form TB Screening Form

    You should have received these forms at orientation. If you need extra copies of the forms, visit MARQ 202.

    TOEFL Test The TOEFL will be given on Friday, September 25 from 8:30-12:30 PM. The following levels may sign up in the IELI Main Office (MARQ 145) during these times: Levels 6/6: September 1418 Cost: Free Levels 5/5, 5/6: September 2125 Cost: $32.00

    Class Photos Starting on Monday, September 14, class photos will be taken for all Writing classes. Your teacher will schedule a time and day for the picture to be taken and will let you know about it in class. The class with the funniest photo will be featured in the Weekly Memo!

    Marquis Hall Grand Opening UNT-International and IELI will host the official Marquis Hall Grand Opening on Monday, September 21, at 12:00 PM. Because of this event, classes will be shortened for the day:

    8:10-9:45 10:05-11:40 1:20-2:55 3:15-4:50 Please use the north and south exits on this day as to not interrupt the ceremony. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony, a peace pole dedication, and international foods served in the student lounges. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and you dont want to miss out!

    UNT Writing Lab

    IELIs Wonders The new annual student publication will be titled IELIs Wonders! Congratulations to Nurgul Baktir and thank you to everyone who participated. Nurgul will receive a large Scrappy plush, and the 2nd and 3rd place entries will each be given a smaller Scrappy plush. All students will be able to begin submitting their writings for the publication soon. This is a great opportunity to be published.

    The UNT Writing Lab will be holding a workshop on how to write a personal statement for scholarships and graduate programs this Thursday, September 17, at 5:00 PM. They will be helping students learn how to highlight their accomplishments and goals more effectively in a writing format. The workshop will take place in Sage Hall 356. Dont miss out on this great opportunity!

    UNT Academic Expo Are you interested in going to UNT? Do you need more information about the college or school you want to join? Then you should visit UNTs Academic Expo. Several of UNTs colleges will be handing out information and answering questions about their academic programs on Tuesday, September 22, from 12:00-2:00 PM in the second floor student lounge.

    Idiom (To) rack ones brain: To try very hard to think of something. "I racked my brain, but I couldn't remember the correct spelling of that word on the test ." Im going to be racking my brain to just think of what to write.
