2015 Black Sheep Gathering Report
Reporting in from a nice long fun weekend at the Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene Oregon. Liongate Farm went out there and represented the breed. As we were the only Bluefaced Leicesters there our whites were put into the registered white class…sigh…..hard to compete with a merino. However the judge had very complementary comments about structure and breeding program.
Now, Corinia, who came to us from Tumble Creek farm got to compete in the registered natural colored wool breeds from non ncwga flocks ….against the Navajo Churros, -now there we were able to compete and she took home a champion ribbon. The best in show ring was humorous, standing out there with a churro ram lamb with my friend Karen Lobb.
I took the reins and set up a “BLU” booth next to my farm booth, we talked up the breed, handed out info and lavished fiber on the shoppers.
Corina went on into the spinners lead with Juno, a wonderful young lady who is the most amazing fiber artist and knitter. She led one of our lambs last year and when she found out we were there she cast on on Friday morning and knit up that little wrap just so she could take one of our blues into the Spinners Lead..she is so cute
