CONTENTS Boyd Healthcare Services has been fortunate to have some of the best Paramedics in the ar-ea on our staff, and Bill Reagor was a significant part of that team. Everyone that knew Bill has felt his loss on a personal level, from missing his smile in the halls to recalling the funny moments he created to relieve the tension of a situa-tion. The Boyd Hospital family has felt great sadness since losing Bill in early 2015, but his legacy will live on in his wife Claudia and son Brian (both Boyd employees), his daughter, and his beautiful Grandchildren.

WELL DONE, GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT While she may not have been a paid employee, when Martha Hubbard came to pass her time with Boyd Healthcare Services, she was as loyal and hard working as any employee she ever en-countered. After many years of working for the Veterans Affairs Hospitals, teaching underprivi-leged school children, and educating herself fur-

ther, she came to share that love of learning and leadership with our staff, a task she held true right up to the very end. Through her strict customer care principles, tenacious per-sonality, and brilliant smile she made everyone she met want to be a better person; she is greatly missed and her legacy at Boyd Hospital has undoubtedly made our facility a better place.

LARYNGOSCOPE PURCHASED BY FRIENDS OF BOYD Medical providers and first respond-ers of Boyd Hospital will no longer be guided by feeling when intubat-ing a critical patient, now they will be able to see “in real time” what is on the other end of their intubation tool. A Laryngoscope is a tool that helps a Physician or Emergency Medical Technician safely intubate critically ill patients that have a compromised airway, without dam-aging vocal chords or other signifi-cant anatomy within the path to an airway. The new device is equipped with a camera on the end going into the patient, and a screen at the oth-er end to better see the airway and all passages to safely place the intu-bation materials more clearly.

NEW MEMBERS OF MEDICAL STAFF

In 2015 we welcomed a new Physician, Dr. Shawn Fry. Dr. Fry comes to Boyd after several years of practice with Springfield Clinic in the Jacksonville area, and will host office as a Family Practice Physician in our Greene County Rural Health Clinic (White Hall) and Rural Health Center of Roodhouse. She has been a very valuable addition to our team and we look forward to Dr. Fry helping serve the patients of Greene County for many years to come!

Rosemary Staten, Family Nurse Practitioner received a Master’s Degree in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner from Frontier Nursing University in 2011. She has worked primarily in family practice, joining Boyd Healthcare Services in January 2015. She is available for appoint-ments in the White Hall and Roodhouse clinics.


THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! Boyd Healthcare Services saw the accomplishment of many years of service from a variety of staff members in 2015, with an exceptional accomplishment coming at the hands of a forty–five year employee!

Sherryl Shannon led the group with an outstanding accomplishment of forty-five years with Boyd Healthcare Services where she spent time in various positions as a Regis-tered Nurse, a long span of her career as the Director of Reisch Memorial Nursing Home, and most recently as a Registered Nurse for the Cardiac Clinic. Sherryl has always had a quick wit, undeniable sense of lead-ership, and an unmatched knowledge for her position while putting care of patients as the most important role of her many years of service; she has an unparalleled work ethic and we will greatly miss her contributions to the daily atmosphere of our Hospital.

Other staff being honored at the banquet, include: Dr. August Adams, Janet Barlow, Christopher Coonrod, Scott Coughlin, Connie Fry, Courtney Garrison, Rebecca Hannel, Elizabeth Lehr, Amber Miller, Dr. Mohammed Siddiqui, Stacy Stoops, and Donna Whitehead all for five years of service. Members of staff being celebrated for ten years of service: Donna Berry, Deb Clement, Loretta Killion, Regina Theivagt, Donna Weis-haupt, and Amy Willis. Jackie Lakin and Vicki Harp both cel-ebrated fifteen years of service, and Gwen Berry was honored for thirty years of service.

FOURTH ANNUAL 5K The fourth annual Boyd Hospital 5K Run and 2 Mile Walk took place in October, 2015. This event is the kick off to a city-wide event held by the Chamber of Commerce, Full Moon Over Carrollton. For the second year in a row, all proceeds of the event were donated to the Greene County Gas Cards for Cancer fund.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT FOR BOYD HEALTHCARE EMPLOYEES Throughout 2015 Boyd Healthcare Services Employees complete many types of training in addition to the required hours of their positions or titles. Many of these classes are held on-site at the Hospital or nearby for better access to our employees.

A trauma situation training hosted by SIU School of Medicine in September gave Nurses, EMS, and Physicians a hands-on experience in the Boyd Hospital Emergency Room during a training in September, 2015. This particular training focused on severe trauma situations and how to address/ stabilize those patients for safe transport.

PREPARED FOR ANYTHING Boyd Healthcare Services employees are required to complete fire safety training annually including hands-on training to extinguish a small fire using equipment on-site. In this training, a fire safety company visits the hospital and staff members are asked to extinguish a “safe” fire near the hospital grounds.


TELE-MEDICINE TURNS HEADS

Tele-Medicine was introduced at Boyd Hospital many years ago but has recently gained momentum as we continue to see an influx in the number of patients suffering from Stroke or Heart Attack arriving in our Emergency Room. Boyd Hospital is proud to be a stroke-ready hos-pital and part of the STAT Heart Program adminis-tered by St. John’s Hospital in Spring-field, Illinois.

The designation as Stroke-Ready was awarded to Boyd Hospital several years ago and means that a patient can come into the facility with symptoms of a stroke, take part in diagnostics, and have life-saving medication adminis-tered immediately, often times stop-ping the Stroke in it’s tracks and saving the patient significant damage with minimal lasting effects. This program includes the use of tele-medicine where a Physician in our facility communi-cates with a higher-level institution through a “robot” where the Doctor at a corresponding fa-cility can take part in “real time” care of the patient.

There are many members of our community that would not be with us today or would have had more negative long term effects if they had not sought immediate care from the Boyd Hospital Staff and taken part in the tele-medicine events of our Emergency Room.

DE-ESCALATION TASK FORCE TRAINING In November, 2015 a training was held to update training/techniques and introduce new members of the de-escalation task force at Boyd Hospital. The task force aims to de-escalate an unsafe situation or patient without using confrontation or force in hopes of avoiding a nega-tive or threatening situation for em-ployees, patients, and community.

Boyd Healthcare Services was happy to take part in a mock wreck scene that was produced at the Greene County Fair Grounds in early 2015 to remind teens of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, specifically on Prom night. The event was hosted by area Police, Fire, Rescue teams and involved an Air Evac team from Springfield, Illinois to give an eerily honest set of sights and sounds to what it means when some-one is critically injured. While this type of educational event is not common in the Greene County area, Boyd Healthcare Services staff were proud of the reaction

from all involved and hope to never have a “real life” situation similar to the event set up on this day.

HEARTSTRINGS GIFT SHOP THRIVING

Boyd Healthcare Services opened a Gift Shop late last year and it has seen a very suc-cessful opening year, carry-ing seasonal merchan-dise, baby apparel, adult acces-sories, and a variety of beautiful home dé-cor. Boyd’s Heart-strings Gift Shop is open Mon-day through Friday 10am-4pm (or by appoint-ment) and operated entirely by

volunteers; we hope you’ll come in and see what they have to offer!


PINK PRIDE

Each year the employees of Boyd Healthcare Services try to honor survivors and memorialize those that have suffered from debilitating diseases, as well as promote awareness of life saving procedures and diagnostic screenings. This year the employees rallied around Breast Cancer patients and handed out educational ma-terials for awareness in October. Boyd Hospital regular-ly performs Mammograms and ultrasounds for breast examination. For more information or to schedule your exam, please call Radiology at (217)942-6946.

#BOYDGOESRED As a part of the National Go Red For Women move-ment, Boyd Healthcare Services invited members of the community and our surrounding areas to take part in wearing red on February 6, 2015 to promote heart health for women. Heart disease is the number 1 killer of women in the United States and roughly 1 in 3 women are affected by poor Heart Health in one way or another. We sincerely appreciate all that our community does to promote positive health and awareness for the patients of our area!

The Thomas H. Boyd Memorial Foundation was established in 2002 as a charitable organization to support Boyd Healthcare Services. The Foun-dation is a tax-exempt corporation pursuant to Section 501c(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The foundation is comprised of eight members and one Boyd Healthcare Services Board representative, all of whom work or reside in Greene and Calhoun Counties.

The Thomas H. Boyd Foundation currently manages and controls the Costello Trust (the Foundation Board members review individual applications of Greene County citizens that have experienced a “catastrophic illness or death” and distribute interest earned on the original trust fund money up to $5,000), a gas card program for cancer patients (individuals apply monthly for a gas card to be given retroactively after traveling great distances for cancer treatments or appointments, with verification from the corresponding physician), a scholarship program for the local high schools, and is the main entity for fundraising on behalf of Boyd Healthcare Services. Other current fundraising activities include: annual Wine Gala, various fundraisers for Gas Cards for Cancer program(s) in Calhoun and Greene Counties, Year-End Giving Campaign, Monthly Giving Opportunities, Murder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser, Memorial Tree at Reisch Entrance.

With your help, Boyd Healthcare Services can continue to provide the high level of patient care and community service that the people of Greene County need and deserve.


ANNUAL WINE GALA FUNDRAISER TRIES COUNTRY ON FOR SIZE The ninth annual wine gala fundraiser was held in Octo-ber, 2015 and took on a new style with fresh hay bales, country music, backwoods barbecue, and fall décor much to the enjoyment of party goers. Guests were treated to the country twang of Steve Vincent Band and were intro-duced to many new drinks paired with the newest craze in Greene County Dining: Hog Daddy BBQ. Savory drink samples were provided by area distributors: Gaudio & Sons, Fritz Distributing, Old Bakery Brewery, Grafton Har-bor, Grafton Winery, Schlafly Brewery, and Mary Michelle Winery. The silent auction garnered great participation and culminated in a fun game of “Let’s Make a Deal”. A sim-ilar country scene is already set for Saturday, October 29, 2016, so SAVE THE DATE!

FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS WINNERS Each year the Thomas H Boyd Memorial Foundation awards $2,000 to local high school seniors interested in pursuing a collegiate medical degree; in 2014 the award was opened up to Calhoun County high school seniors in addition to Greene County students. The winners of each $500 scholarship(s) were Michaela Weber and Madison Struble, both of Carroll-ton High School; Michelle Robeen, Calhoun High School; Bailey Bergschneider, Greenfield High School. There were

no applicants from North Greene School District.

MURDER AT BUNNY AND CLYDE’S

Thomas H Boyd Memorial Foundation introduced a fun, innovative, and new fundraising event to the lineup in 2015! People’s Bank (White Hall) sponsored Upstage Pro-ductions to put on an interactive Murder Mystery Dinner at the KC Hall in Carrollton featuring a story line of Who

Dun It with dinner served by Ham-ilton’s Catering out of Jacksonville. The night was a barrel of laughs with audience members playing the part of crucial characters and im-plying pertinent details through a thick New York accent, twists and turns around every corner, and a final resolution that turned up a fa-miliar face as the guilty party when Foundation Board President (and

local Attorney) Richard Gillingham was found to be the “murderer”!

With rave reviews from this event the Foundation Board hosted their second annual Murder Mystery Dinner in February, 2016: Death at Duck Dynasty. FESTIVAL OF TREES

SHINES BRIGHTLY Thomas H. Boyd Foundation intro-duced a Festival of Trees to the Carrollton Holiday Events Line Up. The event was spon-sored by a variety of community partners, businesses, and indi-viduals. Trees were decorated and donat-ed, then auctioned off to the highest bidder. A few details will change for 2016, but look for this event as the holidays ap-proach quicker than ever!

NEW WEBSITE UP AND RUNNING!

Thomas H Boyd Memorial Foun-dation provided funding in 2015 from contributions of the com-munity and previous fundraising efforts to completely redesign the http://www.boydhcs.org website for Boyd Healthcare Ser-vices. The new website is more interactive with greater mobile functionality, and will soon pro-vide an option for patients to pay their bill online or make a dona-tion online!

GAS CARDS FOR CANCER CONTINUES TO FLOURISH For the sixth year in a row, the Greene County Commu-nities and friends/family have continuously supported their peers that are receiving Cancer treatments by fund-ing the Gas Cards for Cancer Program that is adminis-tered by the Thomas H. Boyd Memorial Foundation, along with a newfound energy to support our neighbors and friends in Calhoun County as that program has seen it’s second year of inclusion. The program has given over $35,000 to area Cancer patients since its inception, and we are eternally grateful to the giving nature of our communities when a neighbor needs it most.

UPDATE ON COMMUNITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT As part of a Federal mandate, all Critical Access Hospitals are required to complete a Community Needs Assessment every three years. This study will produce a document explaining what are the great-est health needs in a geographical service area as it relates to the current population. Thomas H Boyd Memorial Hospital will complete this assessment in 2016 through a series of meetings with local citizens and public officials.
