As India positions itself in the global community as the fastest-growing economy, it is paradoxical that abject poverty does not appear to be declining in many parts of the country. compounded by adverse environmental conditions. Nidhi Foundation (NF) has been serving this underserved children’s group.

As urban settings undergo transformation, NF has kept pace in developing innovative and multiple models of reaching out to the most marginalised children in urban spaces – the children of migrants at construction sites and young children in urban slims. NF reached out to 500 children in the year that has gone by. From a largely charity-based organisation, NF has now become a full-fledged professionally managed development organisation.

We have looked at alternate modes to bring in other stakehol-ders to take on the responsibility of child care services and included more players through the “Tripartite model,” wherein NGOs and government institutions play significant roles in operationalising centres at urban slums.

NF is now positioning itself as technical support for both the civil society and government functionaries. It has been actively engaging with the government at various levels and has emer-ged as the principal advocate, along with its alliance partners, on behalf of young children at both the national and state levels. At the national level, it has worked to propel policy change and effective legislation for young children, and with the states its efforts are aimed at improving services in terms of quality, coverage, budgets and institutional arrangements.

Going forward, the real challenge will be to garner domestic support through the corporate social responsibility (CSR) opportunity offered by the amended Companies Act, which will call for more strategic and focused attention by NF.

NF’s mission of ensuring that each child is properly cared for in a holistic and secure environment has made steady progress in the last year.

Nidhi Foundation started the Year with a brand new Strategy that was develo-ped through an intensive process in consultation with both internal and external stakeholders. This as has been shared earlier, positioned NF as an organisation which works towards bringing about systems change, as this has the potential for improving quality of services at a macro level.

This decision was taken in the context of the continuing challen-ges that the women in India continued to face – financial exclu-sion and economic unproductive as indicators perpetuated by an indifferent government system that refused to make the neces-sary financial and human resource investments.

In such a situation it was important for NF to keep its internal engines revved up and fuel its energies through growth and innovations across all its strategies. The program was made to run with the systems which are integral to NF’s values and philosophy, the piloting of the She Drive in partnership with other NGOs, financial institutions occupied a large part of our atten-tion. Expertise was sought from different agencies to help NF develop new systems to ensure internal readiness for a smooth transition to scaling up.

By the end of the year NF had approximately 100 women trained on e- rickshaw driving, supported for documentation, obtaining licenses, processing loans etc. in urban slums of Delhi It was now ready to accelerate and widen its outreach to other cities through creating more demand for e- rickshwas by communities, as also creating the supply by developing NGOs to enter the difficult terrain of community mobilization in urban slums.

At an advocacy level, the depth and quality of relationships that NF has been able to develop over the last one year with govern-ment functionaries, civil society members and most significantly the legal and financial fraternity is something that NF can be proud of. This has opened the doors for NF to bring in many more stakeholders into its area of influence by getting them to participate more actively in raising the voice for empowered women. Whilst there is a natural propensity to look at the achie-vements, it is important to take stock of other initiatives where NF faced immense challenges and was unable to achieve its stated objectives because of multiple challenges in the external space.

Nidhi Foundation is a non-profit organization registered in December 2015, created solely with the purpose of helping and empowering others. With a pledge to end hunger and malnutrition, Nidhi Foundation designed and implemented some major steps towards it.

Nidhi foundation with its skill development Program for marginalised and neglected community has a vision aimed at social and financial independence, which includes advocacy and financial education with the community mobilization by Nidhi Foundation and educating community and further making them understand importance of financial freedom.

With its Unique module framework Nidhi Foundation center bridged a gap between financial needs of community they finally get evolved out from a vicious circle of poverty.

The journey of the organization has been arduous as foundation has fought all the social odds, foundation had taken an initiative for the betterment of the masses.

MS Migration occurring in urban slums of big cities is a regular process as result

a climatmatic conditions changing regularly, a large migration to cities is a regular matter of concern in recent years.

With the increase in the environmental shifts and natural calamities in the recent past, people have not only been migrating to urban areas but also adding additional weight to the natural resources leading to massive depletion of the resources at a very fast pace, leading people towards poverty and financial slavery and which further threaten their livelihoods.

In urban slums as they are mostly located in unregulated areas of government lacks basic amenities for living like food, sanitation ,health care , shelter and if they arrange it the other way it comes at very high cost as compared to their income. Many government policies and facilities are also provided to these urban slums but with the growing number of people these facilities always become shorten thus here social interventions of NGOs comes into role to fill the gap and with the same role to play Nidhi foundation with its initiatives of She Drive had initiated a project for financial security of the community.

OD A fast urbanization and migration played a crucial role in informal economy and all are related with each other in one or the other way. Poor living and work conditions and poor access to basic services is a vicious loop of poverty, with a regular increasing migration in Delhi NCR region, leading to urban congestion and poverty. Although much of these people get absorbed in an informal economy but a respected , and financially secured life is still a dream from them. They keep on migrating from one place to other for work and settle down in one of the urban slums.

The lack of family support system and with a daily battle of survival has kept people and especially women unsecured financially and children specially faces this scenario unknowingly and much of time it leads them to be a part of unsocial activities. Further the major limitation are lack of skills, resources, and support system a social intervention like She Drive is a ray of hope for the urban slum community.
