Maestro James Brooks-Bruzzese is celebrating a 27-year legacy along with the Symphony this season as the Founder and Artistic Director for programs that reach around the world, and bring pride to Ft. Lauderdale as it expands its own international reputation. His talent and dedication have raised Florida’s prominence as a true cultural center for music and artistry.

Major music capitals of the world from Budapest to Johannesburg have hailed the Maestro for his “inspiring, ingenious, and electrifying” musical artistry. Appearances in legendary concert halls include Budapest’s famed Vigado Theater (home to Liszt and Brahms), the magni cent Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the esteemed Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, and the Teatro Circulo and Salon Piazzolla in Argentina.

It is in these arenas that the Maestro has performed his musical artistry, stirring audiences worldwide. Performances under his baton bring standing ovations from Rome to Rio, together with Asia, the former Soviet Union, and across Central and South America. His talents have taken him to the world’s largest stages and brought global artists home to Florida. He is a masterful ambassador.

The winner of the prestigious 2005 National Arts Award presented live at the Hispanic Heritage Awards held at the Kennedy Center, the Critic’s Choice Award presented at the Villa Lobos Festival in Brazil, and, in 2009, Hispanic Unity’s international Amigos Award, the internationally

known Maestro has been critically acclaimed in guest appearances with the legendary Berlin Symphony, the esteemed Cape Town Opera and the renowned Hungarian Virtuosi.

As founder of the Symphony’s annual Summerfest, Maestro conducts six weeks of performances with acclaimed European chamber orchestras-in-residence, joined by selected musicians of the Symphony for concerts and educational activities in a cultural exchange format throughout Europe, the US and nearly all the countries of the Americas.

His educational commitment brings the greatest of guest artists and mentors the smallest of students throughout Florida and the Americas, bringing classical music to life by introducing masterworks in ways that are familiar and accessible. He inspires young students and life-long learners alike, taking care to especially reach those at risk. He is the rst Hispanic who has consistently over the past eight years brought music education programs from the US to children in Latin America.

Having studied with such legendary artists as Leonard Slatkin and Pablo Casals and been honored as the Critic’s Choice at Brazil’s international Villa Lobos Festival, the Maestro is equally comfortable with opera, ballet and Broadway. He has worked with artists of the Pittsburgh, Metropolitan, Augusta and Chicago Operas, and London’s Covent Garden, receiving enthusiastic acclaim from Opera News. His performances have been recorded for Pickwick Records in London, under the Hallmark and Orchid labels, and more than 30 recordings under the Symphony’s own label.
