Questions 172 -175 refer to the following memo.

To: HT Board of Directors From: Special Committee Date: August 14Re: Some necessary changes

HT Manufacturing is well regarded as a manufacturer of heavy machinery, which has made our company famous around the world. However, in recent months, some equipment failures have affected the reputation of our company.

After analyzing the reasons for the equipment breakdowns, it is clear that shortcuts in the manufacturing process caused weak points in the equipment, making it unsafe for its intended purpose.

We understand that the production managers did not intend to harm the company’s reputation with their decisions regarding the manufacturing processes. After all, they are working under a number of constraints. Nevertheless, it is our recommendation that the production managers attend a training program.

We plan to organize a group to create the training program. It will consist of members of our engineering department, as well as upper management. The program will begin next month and will last several weeks.

We hope that the production managers will be able to implement new manufacturing processes allowing the equipment to be produced to its optimal specifications.

    Dear Mr.Kang,

Thank you for expressing interest in Occoquan Kayak Outfitters. We have had many satisfied customers in our 20 years of business, so we are proud of what we do. I think that a kayaking trip on the Occoquan River will be an unforgettable experience for you and your friends while you are visiting this country.

There are a number of trips you can take from our headquarters. I would recommend one at an easier level and shorter distance since you will have a group. In addition, your group will have one of our professional guides leading the trip, so you won’t miss a thing while you’re out on the river. Please look at our website at oko.com and view the “trips” page. Once you choose a trip, please send me an e-mail indicating your choice.

Regarding your question about group rentals, we have enough kayaks for 80 people. You did not indicate how many people would be in your group, but I would like to let you know that we offer a ten percent discount on groups of 15 people or more. If your group has 25 people or more, we will take off another ten percent. We will provide you with a number of services during your trip. First, a videographer will travel with your group. After the trip, we will provide everyone with a DVD of your adventure out on the water. Next, we will provide a catered lunch midway through your trip, right on the scenic banks of the Occoquan River! Lastly, everyone who completed the journey gets a T-shirt to commemorate the occasion.

I would also like to let you know that your river guide receives a commission based on the number of people in your group, so it is unnecessary to tip the guide.

    Hello,

I ordered a chainsaw from your website three days ago and I received it today. For one thing, the extra chain that was supposed to be supplied with the chainsaw was not included. In addition, there were no documents included with the purchase. I was expecting at least an owner’s manual with my purchase.

Moreover, I didn’t receive the wood chipper as promised by your most recent advertisement. That was a big reason why I made my purchase.

I already have an extra chain for my chainsaw, so I don’t need you to send me another chain. But I do hope you send me the wood chipper in the next few days.

    Thank you, Ted Leare

    Questions 196 -200 refer to following e-mails.

    Hello Eric,

I called your office, but your assistant informed me that you wouldn’t be back from your vacation until next week. I’m currently on a business trip in Italy. I know you have been here many times on business, so I hope it’s alright that I’m contacting you with a question.

This is my first time in Italy. I’m in Florence right now, and I want to go sightseeing when I’m not working. Where are the best places to go sightseeing in this town? I have already been to the Bounarotti House. It was amazing!

I also wanted to let you know that next week will be my last week in the office before I’m transferred to our office in Seoul, Korea. I’m excited and can’t wait to move over there.

    Thanks,

    Josie

    Hi Josie,

It’s no problem that you emailed me. I’m happy to be able to do my part.I see you have already visited Michelangelo’s home. That is one place I definitely recommend visiting while in Florence.

The other places I would recommend going to while you are in Florence are the Museum of Opera of Saint Mary of Fiore, the Uffizi Gallery, and Signoria Square. You will find works by Michelangelo at most of these locations, as well as the art of many other famous Italian artists. Signoria Square is a great place to have a cappuccino, take photos, and see street performers.

One thing, however, is that traffic can be an issue in Florence. Because you will be working on most of the days you are there, it will be a challenge to go sightseeing in your spare time on weekdays. For this reason, I would try to do all of the sightseeing on the weekend.

There are some other things that can help you while you are there. First, ask the locals where they go for dinner. That’s the best way to find an excellent restaurant in Italy. In addition, take the tours at the locations you visit. You see more things on a tour. Plus each tour guide knows the location where he or she works better than anyone else. This means they can provide you with the best information about the place you’re visiting.

    Have a great trip,

    Eric
