PUBLISHER'S MESSAGE

Dear readers,

I’m sure I’m not alone but I can't help but feel like 2015 was too quick to have passed

by. It’s that time of year again--time to reckon with the swiftly-passed year and look

forward to the brand new one, 2016!

We talked about change all the time, feeling and living it in this ever-dynamic society

because, if not, we just become outdate and irrelevant, no matter how big, strong,

solid, or famous. We cannot just ignore what is happening around us, because it is

pervasive and disruptive. In today’s internet times, it is hard to create and keep loyal

customers and business is getting harder and harder for the small players. The focus

this month is to open up and reach out for the opportunities that may not register

within the normal radar.

So as the year 2015 comes to its end, it’s time to reckon with what has being

accomplished and present a positive outlook for the coming 2016. We, at Recharge

Asia, are grateful and fortunate for the continued support of our industry peers, and

we hope you have a great New Year, continueing the journey in good spirit and

health.

Happy holidays!

HP May Buy Dell’s PC Unit

Dell is still selling its PC division and it seems that HP is a likely buyer. Last week the imaging giant’s CEO Meg Whitman said that Dell’s pending acquisition of EMC Corp will create chaos, and this chaos may provide a purchasing opportunity for HP. Earlier the company was not interested in the business unit because it was too focused on its own restructuring, which will see it splitting into two separate companies. It seems that Dell’s PC unit will be a good fit for HP Inc., the company that will continue with PCs and other hardware, but its head Dion Weisler was measured in his remarks regarding a possible purchase, suggesting the deal may be considered after the finalization of the split.

Ink from Soot? Why Not!

An MIT researcher has created a printing ink made from soot. The cheap printing material is a mixture of soot, rubbing alcohol, and oil, and can work with any normal printhead. Anurid Sharma says that he got his inspiration from his childhood in India, where pollution levels are very high. So, Sharma made a device that collects soot from a burning candle, using an ordinary computer cooling fan. Then the soot is injected in an HP C6602 cartridge, which has several large holes to allow the larger particles of the soot to fall out. Sharma is next planning to improve his soot collector, by using capacitive plates to filter out carbon from the atmosphere.

HP Splits, Questions Remain

HP split officially into HP Enterprise and HP Inc. as of the start of the month but the questions about the future of the two now separate companies remain: how will they grow? How will they be able to transform their operations and their clients?

While the idea behind the split was to enable growth, some say that it will remain a challenging endeavor. The reality for the two companies is that HP Inc., which will focus on the hardware product line of the old company, will have the same problems as its predecessor – a supermature market for printers and PCs, with the only opportunity for growth in the face of 3D printing. The HP Enterprise business, the one for software and management solutions, is reducing its workforce and aiming towards growing automation in order to remain viable.

One industry researcher, Daniel Ives from FBR, says that the environment is challenging for all large players in the imaging and PC industry, and that next year may turn out to be pivotal for them. These big old companies will need to show that they can adapt to the modern environment, which is very different from the traditional imaging market.

Some questions specific for HP include whether either of the two new companies will invest in innovation and whether they will work together on large corporate accounts. Also, it is interesting whether HP Inc. or HPE will try to buy Dell and EMC, which are due to merge in the future. Another logical question is how the restructuring that both companies are going through will pay off and whether it will pay off at all. Finally, there is the question of what HPE is going to do about cloud computing and, perhaps more interesting, if the entry into the 3D printing market will save HP Inc.

Six Ways 3D Printing Will Change WorkThe fact that 3D printing is changing the face of more than one industry is undeniable but the tech also has the potential to disrupt the workplace in ways that we may not even see right now. Among the ones that we do see, however, are an end to the traditional concept of a day job and a growing prominence of creativity. It’s clear some job roles will become obsolete with the growing adoption of 3D printing but many people may decide to quit their day job to take advantage of new opportunities created by the 3D printing space.

Another possible change is a change in pace. It is possible, although by no means certain, that the faster speeds introduced in prototyping with 3D printing will bring with them a mental shift in other industries as well, changing processes and innovating.

Time and space will play a different role. Right now a lot of businesses working with physical goods need storage space to keep their replacement parts or whatever they supply their clients with, 3D printing will make possible printing these parts on demand, hence the need for storage space will decline. Fast deliveries, on the other hand, are likely to become the norm, driving further innovation.

Finally, according to Steven Pritchard, a tech expert, 3D printing has the potential to change the workplace in ways that we can’t even conceive of right now.

3D Printing for Healthcare Set for 15% Annual GrowthThe 3D printing market in the healthcare industry is seen to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 14.74% until 2019, a new report has projected. The report, compiled by Technavio, sees as major players in this field 3D Systems, Envisiontec, EOS, Materialise, and Nanoscribe. The growth of the market will be driven by new, currently emerging, medical and dental application of the technology, with the major challenge being high costs.

New 3D Printing Tech Makes Customized Medical DevicesA new 3D printing method has been developed by researchers at the U.S. Northwestern University specifically for producing customized medical devices such as catheters for newborns.

The new method uses magnetic fields to align ceramic fibers immersed in liquid resin in a way that will produce a patient-specific final product. The magnetization involves dusting the fibers with iron oxide and then applying ultralow magnetic fields to them to arrange them in a certain way.

This method’s value lies in the fact that it allows the user to control the mechanical properties of the printing material. This will make it especially useful for more complex applications such as the making of biomedical devices.

Sendinaden Partners with Polymaker to Develop Fully 3D Printed Smart Masks“Breathe in deeply for a count of four, hold your breath and count to seven. Now exhale slowly for a count to eight, and repeat,” instructs David Hartmann, CEO and founder of Sendinaden, as he leads me through a series of breathing exercises.

I’m wearing the Pattern Breathe mask, his company’s first product slated for introduction the first quarter of 2016. Glancing at the screen of his smart phone, I can clearly see the patterns of my breathing—from the speed and depth of each inhalation, to the w a y I ’ m u s i n g my mouth and n o s e , a s w e l l a s o t h e r v i t a l statistics. David acknowledges to me that the inter face is sti l l a bit rough—a work in progress r a t h e r t h a n a finished product. “The algorithms a r e w o r k i n g really well,” he enthuses, as he r e m o v e s m y m a s k . “ N o w

we’re perfecting the user experience.”

I ’m in Ber l in at the Bayer healthcare technology accelerator to get a better understanding of the future of 3D printed consumer electronics, through a hands-on demonstration of an eminent and promising product, the Pattern Breathe mask. Consumer Electronics represents a $1 trillion (US) industry, one that is currently served entirely by injection molding, a traditional manufacturing technique in which hot liquid plastics are injected into a mold and then cooled to form the device housing. Capable of producing thousands of identical objects per hour, injection molding has served the electronics industry well.

However, injection molding is facing growing competition from a young and nimble newcomer: 3D printing, promising technology that delivers a promise of mass customization, where each product is unique to each user.

“Stress and breathing are highly interconnected,” explains David. “When we breathe too fast or too shallow we add to the existing stress in our bodies and this can cause serious health problems.” As he speaks, he takes apart the mask, showing the different components, ranging from the 3D printed casing, front panel and strap to the encapsulated electronics hidden inside. “It’s a two-way relationship. When we breathe well, we reduce the stress on our body from outside influences. We make better decisions at work and we sleep better. Good breathing is the cornerstone of a healthy and happy life.”

Sendinaden is betting that 3D printing will present a serious challenge to injection molding, and cites evidence that the traditional manufacturers understand this inevitability. An example of this is Arburg, the German injection molding technology specialist that has recently announced it will expand into the 3D printing space.

“Wearable technology represents a completely different paradigm that is best served by 3D printing," remarks David. “We see a consumer experience where you walk into a retail outlet, get a Pattern Breathe Mask curated and customised for you, go shopping and come back 45 minutes later to pick up your finished 3D printed mask.”

David is not the only one who sees the potential in 3D printed user-customized wearables. Sendinaden partner Polymaker, a Chinese-based innovative producer of

high-quality filament for extrusion-based desktop 3D printers, prides itself as a leader in recognizing unique applications in 3D printing and providing resources and solutions to support the 3D printing community. “Working with Covestro, the leader in the production of engineering plastic Polycarbonate, we’ve brought exciting, new materials to the market that make it possible for functional, engineering ready objects to be printed via 3D printing,” says Polymaker CEO, Dr. Xiaofan Luo. “Partnerships with companies like Sendinaden ensure that these kind of ready-to-use 3D printed objects will reach the market quickly and change the way people view consumer electronics."

The Polymaker polycarbonate filaments used to print S e n d i n a d e n ’ s Pattern Breathe Masks are unique a n d i d e a l t o the application in use, and are arguably what makes pr int ing t h e s e m a s k s with such quality possible. The strap which holds the mask to a user’s face i s pr inted with PolyFlex™, a material that h a s e x c e l l e n t f lex ibi l i ty yet i s e a s y t o p r i n t , holds the mask f i r mly in p lace while providing g o o d c o m f o r t to wearers. skin, perfect for a product worn on the face.

Mass Portal is the printer company that is supporting Sendinaden with printers. The quality of the printer compliments the quality of Polymaker's materials.

Sendinaden’s main goal is to improve the public’s breathing ability. “By encouraging a person to wear the mask during their commute, or an athlete during training, we can help them change their breathing habits to decrease stress or build better sports performance,” says David. “We’re passionate about bringing better breathing and, in turn, a better quality of life to all kinds of people, but particularly to city dwellers in Asia who face a long commute. They’ve got long periods of down time, and that time is being spent in a high pollution environment where they’re going to wear a mask anyway. It makes sense for them to take advantage of that time to change their breathing habits.”

Sendinaden believes that people worldwide are curious about their breathing patterns and wish to assess their behaviour with a tool that provides them accurate and detailed feedback. Their crowdfunding campaign went live at the end of October and they’re looking to build a strong community in this space.

Will the arrival of 3D printing as a direct challenger to injection molding change how we see and appreciate consumer electronics? It’s going to be an interesting race to the finish line, and hopefully we’ll be breathing more easily as a result.

To answer the quest ion, Sendinaden launched its Kickstarter campaign on November 23.

Education Sector Drives 3D Printing AdoptionSchools are the major driver for the 3D printing industry at the moment, according to one industry insider, Conor MacCormack, chief executive of Mcor Technologioes, which makes a low-cost 3D printer that uses plain paper as printing material. The growing demand from the educational sector in turn is being driven by shorter production cycle times and lower costs.

The reason 3D printing is growing so popular with schools is that it offers “photorealistic” images that can be used

in the classroom as part of students’ interaction with the world around them in subjects as diverse as science, geography, and art.

According to Ashish Panjabi, chief operating officer of Jacky’s Business Solutions, the biggest 3D printer distributor in the Middle East, the educational sector is the biggest single market for the machines. Demand initially came from universities but now all levels of the educational system are coming to see the benefits of the technology.

This opinion is shared by market researcher Gartner, which has reported that sales of low-cost 3D printers are driven mainly by schools and universities rather than by household users. In the future, says MacCormack, desktop printers will become omnipresent in schools and households, thanks to their low cost and good finished-product quality. “The revolution,” he says, “will happen in the classroom and not on the production floor.”

Study Says 3D Printing ToxicA study from the University of California has discovered that some 3D printing filaments may be toxic. The initial discovery was made accidentally by a graduate student who used a 3D-printed part in research on zebrafish. The fish embryos that came in contact with the part died, and this led to a deliberate study involving placing 3D printed parts in Petri dishes with zebrafish embryos.

The two 3D-printed items were done using two different materials: plastic in one case and resin in the other. It turned out that the resin could be more deadly for zebrafish embryos than plastic, although in both cases the researchers noted a negative effect on the embryos from the presence of the 3D printed objects. Now the scientists will move on to examining the components of 3D printing filaments and trying to estimate their potential harmfulness for humans.

New 3D Printing Tool to Further Expand ApplicationsA Carnegie Mel lon researcher, Xiang Cheng, has developed a new 3D printing tool called Encore, which will allow one to print on an already existing object, by this significantly expanding the applications of the technology.

Encore is a design tool that tells the printer how the object on which more will be printed should be placed and

Page 17: 2015 12 140

MARKET SEGMENTS

17www.rechargeasia.com

140th Issue - December 2015

17www.rechargeasia.com

where the printheads should start working. Essentially, Encore allows for the augmentation of existing objects, possibly creating new functions for them, preserving them for a longer time.

Another designer has covered another angle of this augmentation drive. Stefanie Muller and her team have developed a system that can remove parts of an existing object and then 3D print new ones in the same spots. This tech is called patching and is further evidence that the disruptive potential of 3D printing cannot be underestimated.

Chinese Co. Makes 3D Bio-PrinterChinese company Sichuan Revotek, a biotech company, has built a 3D bio-printer capable of producing blood vessels and even organs. The printer is based on the company’s proprietary stem cell bio-ink technology. The bio-ink, called Biosynsphere, will make it possible to create wholly functional, customized organs. Sicuhan Revotek, a subsidiary of Sichuan Languang, is now looking for international partners to advance its work further.

Zhuhai CTC Launches Riverside 2Chinese 3D printer maker Zhuhai CTC Electronic has showcased its Riverside 3 printer, an SLA machine that uses the company’s proprietary system RiverOS. Few market watchers expected this printer so soon after the release of the first Riverside, but it seems the new printer is indeed an improvement on Riverside 1.

The new machine features a bended acrylic cover to reduce the risk of breakages during transportation, for example, and a 0.1 mm layer thickness. It has a build area of 125x125x165mm and weighs 14 kg. Its price tag is just 13,800 yuan, or $2,175.

Stratasys, 3D Systems Report Losses For Third QuarterThe two biggest players in the 3D printing field are exper iencing tough t imes r ight now, with patent expiries and an influx of startups. A decline in financial performance shouldn’t come as a surprise but it does raise questions about where Stratasys and 3D Systems will go from here.

For starters, both of them have pledged to cut costs and restructure their businesses. 3D Systems also said directly

that it’s done with acquisitions – the strategy that made it as big as it is but also seriously hit its profitability, just as it did to Stratasys. Now, it seems, both are willing to focus more on their ongoing operations. These will need to become more streamlined and more efficient, so the market leaders can maintain some sort of reasonable profit margins.

Stratasys Issues Quarterly UpdateStratasys said last week it expects revenues for the third quarter between $166 and $168 million, with the net result expected in a range from a negative $1.5 million to a positive $1 million. This would mean earnings per share of minus $0.03 to plus $0.02. The company has suffered impairment charges and it might need to add more of these to its final financial report for the third quarter of the year.

Stratasys’ stock is covered by 17 analyst firms, with the majority of these having a “Buy” rating on the 3D printer maker. Three rank it “Sell” and four have a “Hold” rating on the stock.

XYZprinting Partners with Barnes & Noble for Educator WeekTaiwanese 3D printer maker XYZprinting, the leader in low-cost printers, has struck a partnership with Barnes & Noble to showcase its products at 650 stores across the United States during Educator Appreciation Week. The event aims to increase awareness among classroom educators of 3D printing technology. During the week, XYZprinting representatives at the stores demonstrated how students can be engaged with the technology in practical, real-life applications, a press release said, and how 3D printing can contribute to a collaborative environment in the classroom. The company’s Da Vinci printers are the best fit for such initiatives being easy to use, not requiring any assembly.

Texas Instruments Launches New 3D Printing ChipsetTexas Instruments has released a new chipset, including a DLP9000X digital micromirror device and a DLPC910 controller. The set provides a fivefold increase in speed for 3D printers and lithography devices, at more than 60 gigabits per second. It also features a total of over four million micromirrors, which means a 50% reduction in printheads. The set is optimized for wavelengths of between 400 and 700 nanometers – a range compatible

with an extensive array of photosensitive resins and other printing materials. It supports a variety of light sources, such as lasers, LEDs, and lamps.

3D-Printed Teeth Repel Bacterial PlaqueResearchers from the University of Groningen are working on artificial teeth 3D-printed from antimicrobial plastic that can kill the bacteria, which cause caries. The idea is to put one such tooth in your mouth and live care-free of bacterial accumulation. The researchers have already tested their creation in the lab and have discovered that it can kill up to 99% of all bacteria present in the human mouth without showing any signs of being harmful to the human tissues. Now the antibacterial tooth will need to undergo clinical trials, so don’t throw your toothbrush away just yet. One of its creators, Andreas Herrmann, is optimistic, however, believing that the tooth will be ready for use in the near future.

Arevo Labs Introduces First-of-its-Kind Robotic Additive Manufacturing Platform for 3D Printing Composite PartsThe f i rst-of- i ts-k ind solut ion consists of a standard commercially available robot, composite deposition end-effector hardware and a comprehensive software suite. Arevo’s solution is tailored to ABB’s smallest 6-axis robot, the IRB 120, though the scalable software can support larger ABB robot models and sizes. The additive end-effector hardware consists of a deposition head with advanced thermal management technology for processing high-performance carbon-fiber reinforced thermoplastics.

Arevo’s software suite includes:

• CAM software to convert CAD models to a set of additive deposition instructions for the robot. Software is capable of six degrees of freedom, enabling true 3D additive manufacturing.

• A precise kinematics simulator that interprets deposition instructions to validate and optimize part construction.

Arevo Labs’ RAM Plat for m inter faces wi th ABB’s RobotStudio™ programming and simulation software to ease tool path generation from CAD files.

The platform’s multi-axis tool paths enable, for the first time, production quality parts constructed with true 3D surfaces in variable orientations. The resulting parts have strength and aesthetics superior to those made with conventional Cartesian-based additive manufacturing equipment and software.

In addition to expanded design possibilities, the Arevo Labs’ Robotic Additive Manufacturing Platform maximizes size scalability and production efficiency. Key enabling technologies include automation and secondary process integration within manufacturing work cells. Depending upon the size of the robot, the part build envelope is scalable from 1000 cubic millimeters to 8 cubic meters.

“We are excited to be the first to develop a robot based additive manufacturing platform optimized for composite parts,” said Hemant Bheda, CEO and founder of Arevo Labs. “Unencumbered by the constraints of conventional Cartesian systems, this platform is the dawn of the additive manufacturing work cell for the aerospace and defense factory-of-the-future.”

Glowforge Gets $28 Mln in Crowdfunding DriveGlowforge, an award-winning 3D laser printer startup that first caught the public eye at the end of September, has managed to raise $28 million in its crowdfunding efforts, an amount significantly exceeding its aim, which was for $100,000 that would allow it to place a factory order for the mass production of the machine.

The Glowforge printer can make everything from furniture to sushi, the company’s founder Dan Shapiro says. The startup has amassed preorders from 70 countries already, from household users to businesses and non-profit organizations. Shipments will start in the first half of next year.

3D printing pioneer voxeljet from Friedberg (Germany) is celebrating a special kind of anniversary. The high-tech company, which has established a name for itself as a manufacturer of industrial 3D printing systems and as a service provider for the on-demand production of sand molds and plastic models, is pleased to announce that it is delivering its 100th 3D printer in November 2015.

The manufacturer has recently registered steadily growing demand for 3D printing systems. Hubert Stärker, Director Sales & Marketing at voxeljet, knows the reasons for this development: "Many customers who have their molds printed at our service center eventually want their own 3D printer, whether for reasons of flexibility or economy. Another reason for the positive development lies in the many advantages offered by the 3D printing technology, which are gradually making their way into more industries and induce companies to purchase their own machines." In addition, the 3D printers are "made in Germany" at voxeljet's headquarters in Friedberg (near Augsburg, Germany). They are made entirely of high-quality components that ensure ongoing operations for many years to come.

OCP: Franking Machines, the Other Business Inkjet

Franking machines come in a variety of sizes ranging from small desktop units for franking a few pieces of mail each day to large, industrial-strength machines that can frank thousands of pieces of mail each hour. Meanwhile most desktop devices as well as certain high volume machines are based on inkjet print engines.

Machines are basically categorized by the volume of mail they frank:

- High-volume: more than 2,000 pieces per day

- Mid-volume: 200 to 2,000 pieces per day

- Low-volume: under 200 pieces per day

Inks used to frank mail must be specially formulated to meet specific country mail provider requirements. The inks must be blue or a certain Pantone, or red and fluoresce when exposed to a certain frequency of light so the mail piece can be processed using high-speed sorting equipment. Franking inks are also formulated to meet the demands of different devices. Low-volume postage machines, for example, can go long periods without printing, so they employ ink with more humectants to keep the nozzles in the print heads from being clogged by dried inks. Higher-speed machines may require inks with faster drying times.

There is a real aftermarket nowadays for high quality franking cartr idges. OCP meanwhile has a broad range of inks for franking machines. Some of the major remanufacturers of franking cartridges work with OCP inks.

Static Control Releases 200+ Products in Third Quarter 2015

Sanford, N.C. – The third quarter of 2015 saw the launch of more than 200 products from Static Control, including more than 140 replacement chips for various OEM brands and regions.

Some product highlights for the quarter include a complete solution for drum units used in Samsung® SCX-6555 printers, including the drum unit chip, carrier, OPC drum and wiper blade. The toner cartridges and drum units for this printer series are separate. An improved design for the replacement chip for the toner cartridge was also released, largely based on customer feedback; the new chip includes a longer connector that assists when remanufacturing cartridges with broken clips and provides a more OEM-like appearance.

The third quarter also saw the worldwide release of ink for HP® 934/935 and 970/971 cartridges. These inks are the same used by Static Control for its line of remanufactured ink jet cartridges. Replacement ink had previously only been available to European customers. Also launched were remanufactured ink jet cartridges for Epson® T126 & T127 and T200XL cartridges.

A line of parts to assist with conversion opportunities for HP CE390A/X cartridges, including a replacement waste bin, replacement drum bearing plate, a contact side end cap and a drive side end cap, were released. These cartridges have multiple conversion opportunities. Contact a representative to learn more.

Two sets of replacement waste toner bottles were released. The first one is for use in select Kyocera® monochrome printers and consists of the bottle, cap, warning label and clear tape to hold the cap in place. Printer applications require two waste bottles per cartridges. The second bottle is for use in Samsung ML-5510 and related printers and functions similarly to the OEM.

A replacement developer roller for use in the Lexmark® T650 was released. It provides rich, dark image densities, and can be used as a replacement for a damaged or worn OEM developer roller. A full Static Control build provides darker prints and slightly higher usage than the use of field one-cycle components.

Multiple yields and regions are available for most. A replacement chip for use in cartridges for the wide format, ink jet HP LX 610 printer was also released. Visit Static Control’s Chip Center to learn more about Static Control’s comprehensive line of replacement chips.

Static Control Releases Aftermarket’s First OEM-Quality Polyester Chemical TonerPolySphere Toners Launch for Cartridges for Dell® 5130 Printers; More to Come Soon

Sanford, N.C. – Static Control has released the first set in its PolySphere Toner line, exclusive polyester chemically produced toners (CPT) that offer OEM-qual i ty performance. This groundbreaking offering is qualified for cartridges used in Dell® 5130 and related printers, with more formulations and cartridge qualifications to come.

There are many benefits to polyester CPT. It has a lower melting point than traditional toners, allowing the printer to operate at lower fuser temperatures. Since toner fusing can account for 80% of the total power used by a printer, polyester CPT has led to more energy efficient printers.

Polyester CPT is also more chemically compatible with color pigments than styrene and acrylic toners, meaning that prints are more vibrant and true-to-life. The toner also has a smaller particle size, a key factor in efficient toners. PolySphere toners easily meet page yield, and exhibit optimum transfer efficiency.

“PolySphere toners have such a strong performance largely thanks to the proprietary surface treatment we use,” said Erwin Pijpers, Senior Vice-President of Sales. “The charging, flow and durability of each particle is affected by the surface treatment.”

In the coming weeks, additional PolySphere toners will be qualified for a number of systems, including Fuji-Xerox and Lexmark offerings.

“This is a huge achievement for our toner development and manufacturing team,” said Pijpers. “We are constantly developing the products the aftermarket needs to grow their business. This new line of color toners allows remanufacturers to offer an OEM-comparable system using the same technology as the OEMs, something that hasn’t been available until now.”

Canon Set on Entering 3D Printing Field

After HP, Canon is the second major imaging company that has announced intentions to enter the 3D printing niche. This happened at the Canon expo in Paris, where the company said it is currently developing a 3D printing system. Like HP, Canon is ambitious: it’s not just planning a new 3D printing process but a whole integrated 3D printed environment using what it calls a 3D Integrated Software. The solution, says Canon, will include 3D scanners, newly developed proprietary printing systems and user-friendly digital design tools to make the technology accessible for even the most clueless users. Having said all this, the company added that it will take at least two years before it can showcase a final product, so it looks like HP will not have new immediate competition in the face of Canon.

Canon Pixma MG6820 Wireless Inkjet offers Fast Speeds, High Quality

The Canon Pixma MG6820 inkjet all-in-one device, with a minimum price tag of just $99.99 offers high print quality and fast speeds, which would appeal to users needing a photo printer. The device comes with memory card slots, which can be used for printing from, however scanned images may not be stored on the memory cards. Unfortunately, there is no USB port but the printer supports Wireless PictBridge, which is available on all of its recent cameras.

Mobile scanning and printing are also available, as well as printing from the cloud. Canon also offers its printing app, which allows the user to give commands to websites including Google Drive, Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, and others, in order to send print jobs directly to the printer.

Perhaps the problem with the printer is that setup takes quite a bit of time, though it compensates for this with very good photo printing speeds, although non-photo speeds are not so impressive.

Epson East Africa Releases a Cartridge-Free Printer

The new L655 ink tank system 4-in-1 printer introduces Epson’s new duplex printing feature. When purchased, the printer also includes 11,000 pages of ink.

The printer is economical with its integrated ink tank. Quick and reliable, the tank efficiently prints double-sided A4 pages.

The General Manager of Epson Middle East, Khalil El Dalu, says, "Refilling using individual ink bottles is quick and easy thanks to fast ink top-up technology, clearly labeled bottles and drip-free nozzles. The L655 introduces duplex printing, enabling offices to halve their use of paper, saving money and resources. The printer uses dye ink for color and pigment ink for black, which provides quick drying, smudge-free prints for business use."

Users can use Epson Connect and Wi-Fi Direct® to print from their devices without a router. With A4 ISO print speed of up to 13.7ppm, 1,200 dpi scanning, and the ability to make 99 copies of a page, the L655 is also time-efficient.

Canon Presents imagePROGRAF PRO-1000

Canon USA has introduced a new professional large-scale printer, the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000, which features a number of innovations, such as a new print head, a new ink set, and a new image processing engine. The printer is the first in a whole new series, which will complement the company’s lineup of DSLR cameras and lenses.

The print head of the new machine is 50% larger, featuring a lot more nozzles, allowing for faster print speeds without compromising the print quality. The new ink system is geared towards ensuring the highest possible print quality, providing denser droplets, which also helps reduce ink waste.

The processing engine, L-COA PRO, controls the placement of the ink droplets and the balance of colors, based on calculations of a set of factors, including color reproduction, tonal gradations, black density, glossiness, and graininess, among others.

imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 will hit markets at the end of this month at an MSRP of $1,300.

Press the axle out just enough so that you can grab it with the flush cutting wire cutters. You may have to make two small cuts on each dies of the pin from the outside in order for the cutters to be able to grab it. See Figures 10, 11 & 12

The drum hub on the opposite side is welded. The weld can be broken or drilled out, but there is a good chance that the hub will either warp if pried off, or will be hard to align if drilled out. See Figure 13

6) The drum dongle gear has a spring that holds it off to one side. (Necessary for it to engage the printer). Release the tail of the spring off the gear and remove the drum. See Figures 14 & 15

7) Remove the PCR and clean with your standard PCR cleaner. See Figure 16

8) Remove the 2 screws and the Wiper Blade, there is an adhesive seal that hold the blade in place. Carefully lift it up. See Figure 17

9) Clean out the waste toner, make sure the seals are clean. If toner gets on

the blade seal it can be cleaned with alcohol to activate the adhesive again. See Figure 18

10) Coat the wiper blade with your preferred lubricant. Install the blade and 2 screws. See Figure 19

11) Re-install the cleaned PCR. Note that a new OEM PCR has a smal l amount of conductive grease on the black (contact) side. See Figure 20

12) Re- Instal l the OEM OPC Drum and metal axle pin. The metal axle pin should have a small amount of conductive grease on the tip. Remove the old grease and replace before inserting the pin. Make sure the axle pin is fully inserted. See Figures 21 & 22

If you are replacing the OEM drum, follow this procedure to remove the gears and install them on the new drum:

13) Slide a 1/16" metal rod about 18" long along the drum wall until it meets the side wall of the dongle gear. Lightly tap the rod a few times with a hammer, rotate the drum, do the same until it comes loose. Normally it will take three to four taps for the gear to come loose. Do the same for the contact side taking care not to place the rod anywhere near the copper contacts that bite into the drum. See Figure 23

14) Straighten out the contacts on the contact gear. See Figure 24

15) Lightly sand the inside of the new drum where you will be installing the contact gear. This will help ensure good electrical contact. See Figure 25

16) Apply a few drops of super glue around the inside of the new drum about 1/8” in from the edge. Make sure you leave space with no glue present for the contacts to touch the metal drum wall. These contacts must be metal to metal with no glue in between them. If any glue is in between the contacts and drum wall, there will be drum ground issues (solid black pages). Install the contact gear. See Figure 26

17) On the opposite side, place a few drops of medium or thick super glue on the inside wall of the drum about 1/8”in from the edge. This will prevent the glue from overflowing into the drum

coating when the drive gear is installed. See Figure 27

18) Install the drive gear. Place the drum onto a flat surface and gently tap the gear with a rubber mallet until the gears sits flush. (Do not hit the dongle gear!) See Figure 28

19) Check the drum ground with an ohm meter. Place the probes into the drum contact and drum (very edge on the drum where there is no coating), and check for continuity. Be very careful to keep the one lead on the edge of the drum. The top metal part has a clear protective coating on it and is easily scratched. Do not press in hard or the lead will slide across the drum ruining it. Allow the glue to dry for about a couple of minutes and the drum should be ready to use. See Figure 29

20) On the supply chamber, remove the two screws from the end cap on the gear side of the cartridge. See Figure 30

21) Remove the end cap. See Figure 31

22) Remove the magnet ic ro l le r assembly. See Figure 32

23) Remove the Doctor Blade and two screws. See Figure 33

24) Clean out any remaining toner from the hopper. Note the Dr. Blade seal. It is a sticky substance that can be clean with alcohol if toner gets on it. If this seal becomes damaged, replace it with 100% silicon caulk. See Figure 34

25) Remove the remnants of the old seal. These cartridges use a self-removing seal system. This picture shows a new cartridge with the seal starting to

remove from right to left. See Figure 35

At this time no new seals are available.

26) Fill through the Mag roller opening with *g of toner for use in the HP CF226A or X series toner cartridges. There is not a fill plug in these cartridges. See Figure 36

27) Re-install the doctor Blade and two screws. Make sure the contact sprint is touching the blade! This is a new type of contact for HP to use on this blade. See Figures 37 & 38

28) Install the magnetic roller. Turn the roller until the keyed end fits into the keyed slot in the end cap. This can be tricky to do until you get the hang of it. The keyed magnet is shown extended from the sleeve. The proper orientation for the keyed side is facing down. See Figure 39

29) Install the end cap and two screws. See Figure 40

30) Place the two halves together, make sure that the two springs are aligned, and insert the two pins. Make sure that the pins are slightly pushed in so that they do not interfere with installing the cartridge in the printer. See Figures 41 & 42

31) Install the drum cover; make sure

the spring is situated correctly, and the slot on the cover fits into the tab on the cartridge See Figures 43, 44 & 45

32) Replace the chip by slicing off the top two corners of melted plastic and sliding the chip out. After replacing the chip if it seems a little loose in the slot, place a dab of hot glue on each of the corners that you sliced off. The hot glue is easily removed when recycling the cartridge again, but will firmly hold the chip in place. See Figures 46, 47 & 48

Why in India? As you all know, India is a big and growing market. Laser printers and consumables have witnessed a sharp growth during the last 2 to 3 years. Then, inkjet consumables are making a comeback as low-cost alternatives to laser and color segment is growing very fast–both in laser and in inkjet segments. Indian market definitely offers attractive opportunities for both international players and their local partners.

Why in Chennai in particular?South India accounts for nearly 50% of all the imports and consumption of printer consumables in India. Chennai is close to all the 5 South Indian states, such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, with good access from all the other major India cities. Customers in South India are better educated, quality conscious, transparent in their deals and seek and develop long term business relationships.

(RechargExpo & Imaging

50 www.rechargeasia.com

HP Finally Splits HP Splits, Questions Remain

Ink

Tank

IEEEP.333.2.5 在另外一个 3D 打印相关标准

ObjetEden

Saltygloo。

Cleat,

Foodini

Eindhoven

(Lawrence

Bonassar)

Turrado

(Defense

Metal

Technology(MTI)公司宣布,它正在与美国宇航局(NASA)

Inconel

MKIC

生一定会在市场占有率方面超前领先;
