The Difference is Extraordinary!

The Lab School of Washington is one-of-a-kind: no other school

does exactly what we do as well as we do it! For over 45 years,

The Lab School has been providing an exceptional academic

experience for bright students (grades 1–12) with learning

differences and ADHD. The first school of its type in the nation,

The Lab School enjoys a worldwide reputation for transforming

lives and guiding students on the path toward success.

For students with dyslexia, ADHD and other learning differences,

art can be the gateway to learning. Our innovative arts-infused

curriculum is experiential and multi-sensory, helping young

people overcome difficulties with reading, spelling, writing, and

math, while preparing them for a range of rewarding college and

career choices.

Our Summer Program is a great way for your child to experience

what makes the Lab approach to learning so effective…while

having fun at the same time!

Summer is the time for fun! It’s also the time when academic skills can slip, making it hard

for students to maintain the progress they have worked so hard to achieve. The Lab School’s

summer programs are designed to help students discover their strengths, exercise their

creativity, overcome academic difficulties, and prepare for the school year ahead. Through

the exploration of math, literature, technology, and art, your child enjoys the continuity

necessary for maintaining academic progress. Our five-week program is brimming with

imagination, excitement, and innovative teaching to help students understand their needs,

evaluate their weaknesses, build confidence, and develop techniques for overcoming

learning challenges.

• Summer classes for students 1st through 9th grades

• Special sessions in Speech and Language and Occupational Therapy for

children age 3 to 12th grade

• Small group instruction in reading, spelling, writing, and math

• Lively and engaging activities

• State-of-the-art indoor aquatic center

• Air-conditioned classrooms and gymnasium

• Engaging and fun extended-day programs

• Convenient location in northwest Washington, DC

Lower School Morning Program: 9:00am –1:00pmMonday–Friday

Tuition: $2,750 for completed contracts and full payment

received by March 14th, $3,050 after March 14th

Students should bring lunch; they will have a short lunch

break during the program.

Young learners enrolled in The Lab School of Washington’s

summer program will benefit from daily small group instruction

as well as classes designed to enhance language, motor, and

social development. Each child’s schedule includes the following:

Academics – one period daily

All students receive small group instruction in reading, spelling,

oral and written language skills, and math. Our post-session

report identifies your child’s strengths and needs based on

activities covered during the course of the program.

Team-Building – one period daily

Students work collaboratively on team-building activities that foster

confidence, cooperation, social pragmatics, and self-awareness.

Students create a journal of their activities.

Academic Clubs and Art – one period daily

Our unique Academic Clubs immerse students in themed learning

environments. Each Academic Club sets a dramatic framework

for learning by creating an imagined time and place where every

child plays an important role. Students experience hands-on,

project-based learning designed to build language, content

knowledge, and critical thinking with a variety of art forms,

including painting, sculpture, music, and movement. Students

will join one of the following clubs:

• Swiss Mountain Rescue – Students are alpine rescuers living

on Great St Bernard Pass in the Alps at the base of Mont Blanc.

From this base camp at Great St Bernard we explore all things

Swiss: chocolate, cheese, banks, Swiss Guards and of course

St Bernard dogs.

• Peruvian Lost City – High in the Andes, students live under

the rule of Pachacuti in the lost city of Machu Picchu. We

explore the natural history of the Andes mountain range while

learning the history of Peru, past and present. Music, dance,

textile and foodways are at the center of this Mesoamerican

focused Academic Club.

• Silk Road Tea House – The mighty Himalayas brood over

our Sherpa home high on the flanks of Mt Everest, the tallest

mountain in the world. Students explore Nepalese history and

culture mixed with geography and geology. Projects focused

on Buddha, the Silk Road, and alpine mountaineering give a

hands-on introduction to Nepal.

PE – one period daily

All children take a movement class daily (including swimming

twice a week). Students work on coordination, balance,

participation, and sportsmanship.

Worried that your child’s mind will take a vacation

this summer? Never fear! The Lab School of

Washington understands how important it is

for young learners to maintain the skills they’ve

acquired in order to progress in the year ahead.

We’ve designed a challenging summer program that

develops academic readiness…without neglecting

the “fun-factor.”

civilians in war time, through an exciting, challenging

immersion into arts and academics.

Over the course of our 5-week adventure, students will

or backstage, you will have the opportunity to

contribute to all aspects of the dramatic presentation

while developing and applying academic skills in
